March 1st, 2014 - 9:00am to 3:00pm A full day of bicycle related topics for the beginner to the most experienced riders. Free breakfast and lunch. Open to members and non-members. Please Note: The 2014 Beginner Century Training and Experienced Century Riders Training starts at Super Cycling Saturday. Then we'll get out on the road for the first training rides on Sunday, March 2nd.
NEW website features to be announced so don't miss this event!
Update: I am changing the distance to 15 miles. We are going to Southhaven park and back.
We will have the Woodside rollers to deal with but I think for the weather that just might be enough!
Hopefully next week we can extend the mileage and get the training on schedule.
Well today starts the first of my Century Training Rides. The ride level is a B and as the weeks progress the hope would be that we are at the high end of a B and the lower end of a B+. Each week the mileage will progress to where we should all be able to complete the century. My group will stay together and no one will get dropped.
All riders are welcome even if you do not plan on doing the century however after we complete the 55-60 mile mark a few weeks into the the training I will ask who plans to complete the century.
Please come on time and ready to roll.
Check each morning of the ride for any time or route changes due to weather conditions.
Sorry folks, but between the weather and the crappy shoulders, I am being cautious and canceling the ride for today.
Well today starts the first of my Century Training Rides. The ride level is a B. Each week the mileage will progress to where we should all be able to complete the century. My group will stay together and no one will get dropped. If needed we will have two groups, one group going slightly faster but doing the same route.
THE TEMPS AT THE START TIME MUST BE OVER 32 DEGREES OR THE RIDE WILL NOT GO.
PLEASE come on time and ready to roll.
Check each morning of the ride for any time or route changes due to weather conditions.
This is the beginning of my Metric Century Training Rides. The ride level will be a C+ and as the weeks progress hope to be at the high end of B- for the century. Rides will be flat for the first few weeks then changing locations to incorporate some hills. All riders are welcome whether you are doing the century or not but I will inquire who is interested in completing the century a few weeks prior.
Meeting location is the south side of the train station, across the street from the main parking lot. Please arrive at least 15 minutes early as we will roll at 9:30. Bring snacks and water as there will be no food stops on this ride.
Please check the calendar the morning of the ride in case there are any changes due to weather conditions.
Metric Century training ride, but all are welcome (towards the end, I will be asking that only those who plan to do the Metric Century finish up the training with this group). We will start out in the mid B range (15, 15+), hopefully getting faster as we go along, culminating in the Montauk Century, Metric distance, in the B/B+ to low B+ range. Please arrive early, we WILL roll on time!
Century training, already?! The plan is for a series of increasing distance rides, building endurance so we'll hopefully be able to do a four stop century.
We'll kick off training season with CTR#1: A 28 mile ride, with an optional loop of 5 miles, which would increase the distance to 33 miles. There will be a quick stop near the midpoint.
This will be a faster B+ and it will be a paceline ride, but we will all work together to avoid dropping people.
Going to shoot for a nice easy 20ish mile ride to loosen up the joints and re-form those calluses "down there" before starting the century training series next Saturday. The precipitation isn't scheduled to start until late afternoon/early evening so there shouldn't be a problem getting this one in. We're looking at temps in the high 30s and little to no wind at ride time.
I'm shooting for a solid B- pace (~14.5avg) just to gauge everyone (and myself) before century training starts. No one gets dropped.
Please be ready to roll at 1PM. We're chasing the weather here, so a few minutes could make all the difference between a good ride and being pelted with snowflakes and/or ice water.
SORRY-I HAVE BEEN UP ALL NIGHT BEING SICK!! SO EVEN IF THE WEATHER IS DEALYED, I CAN'T RIDE.
Not exactly sure of the distance or mileage but won't be over 20 miles and likely at the very low end of C+ (12 mph) due to the cold, wind and not riding much lately! I am thinking of doing the Metric Century in May if I can get enough riding time and distance in so if you are considering it, come along! Cell phone 516-330-1542. Park behind Wendy's along Old Neck Road.
Come join us on Thursday March 6th at the New Village Recreation Center in Centereach
Neal from Campus Bikes will discuss how to buy a bike.
Snacks and refreshments will be provided
How about coffee and a little exercise? Let’s get the year started. AM Coffee rides will work like this. All rides will be between 15 & 20 miles. I have put together several routes; choosing one in the morning, which hopefully will put the wind at our backs during the return trip. However, due to the sloppiness and safety of the current roads this will be the first consideration. We will stop for coffee and a bathroom about half way. The average pace for the ride will be between 13.4 and 14.1 mph, since most of us are just getting started. The road speed will be slightly higher to produce the average. No one will be dropped. My cell number is 631.484.3490; call anytime if you have questions. Please check the ride calendar for any weather, or last minute cancellations. These will be posted no later than 8:30 AM if necessary.
Same old, Same old but with a twist at the end where we'll climb "Mount" Ashton from East Bartlett. Check back to this post for changes and especially on the morning of the ride as we'll still be dealing with weather. Dress warm as the temps will be only just about 30F.
Let's follow the grooves to MV. We will try to do a true B pace averaging 14.5 mph. No one gets dropped. All will have fun. It is mandatory! I will post any cancelation or change by 9.00AM. My cell # is (631) 879-5365. Call anytime for more details.
CHANGE: Due to the importance of the media event with Assemblymember Hennessey at 11 am in Patchogue, I decided to up the time to 9 am so that we can be back in time and then drive to the media event. I tried to incorporate it into the route felt this was the better option. Hope you will still join me.
I will be having the training rides on Saturdays and I am moving the pace up to a B-. It will be a little quicker than last week but not by much. I plan to keep the training flat this week again so we will head to Bellport with a deli stop when we get there. All riders are welcome whether you are doing the century training or not.
Meeting location is the south side of the train station, across from the main parking lot. Please arrive at least 15- 20 minutes early as we will roll out at 9:30. Please be sure that you have an appropriate water bottle (not a Poland Springs or other manufacturer water bottle).
Please check the calendar the morning of the ride in case there are any changes. Weather is supposed to be great. Look forward to seeing everyone.
Today we are doing a short ride to Southhaven Park and back. This is good training for riders who have not gotten much riding in this winter. Check for weather updates the morning of the ride..Never know when we will get hit with another snow storm!
**Formerly AM Coffee**Let’s show our support and be a little pro active, especially after County Legislator Thomas Barraga’s remarks. I am paraphrasing, Suffolk County is a suburban automobile community; drivers don’t expect to see bikes and motorcycles on the road. If you’re not training for the century this ride is for you. I’ll keep the average around 13.5, stopping for coffee and a pee break around mile 8 and then do a short stop at Shaber & Ocean around 11:15AM and then head back. News 12 will be there, what the heck you could be on TV; be nice, no potty mouth. My cell number is 631.484.3490; call anytime if you have questions. See links below. http://www.sbraweb.org/http://www.sbraweb.org/sites/default/files/CompltSts,hit,runMediaAdvisory.pdf
Weather should be significantly better! I've made some changes accordingly, including longer distance.
This will be a short flat ride down to Heckscher State Park and Back...maybe a loop in side the park or two depending how the group is feeling. This will be the time to see what you can do and open up and hammer through a loop, then back on the road Home. This a GREAT Warm-up to the season.
This will be the second training ride. Each week we will extend the mileage so we will be going to Moriches this ride. Since i cannot predict the weather, if we have cold temps the distance might get dropped back. At this point the weather will dictate the distance until there is no more snow on the ground!
Check the morning of the ride for any changes to the ride.
Well today starts the first of my Century Training Rides again.
**Update 3/9/2014 – 7:40AM. Temps around 35, Wind @16. Reducing the mileage to 20, and will probably be on the lower end of the average; after all, this is supposed to be fun!**
How about taking a ride to Great River today? We will go the usual route through Connetquot Park. The route is mostly flat with 2 little hills. We will be making a food/rest stop somewhere between miles 15 and 20. The average pace for the ride will be between 13.3 and 13.9 mph, since most of us are just getting started. The road speed will be slightly higher to produce the average. Please check the ride calendar for any weather, or last minute cancellations which will be posted no later than 8:30 AM if necessary. My cell number is 631.484.3490; call anytime if you have questions or need directions to the start. REMEMBER TO SET YOUR CLOCKS AHEAD THE NIGHT BEFORE.
This is the first of the training rides for the Montauk Century. It will probably be on the low end of a B+ as I have not been riding. Dust the bike off and come out and get into it again. Hopefully this season will be good riding weather.
Because of the clock change and all those that ride to the ride, I moved the start to 10:00. I will pick up this week for Dennis and follow a bit of an extension of last week's route. Depending on the weather and wind, we should come in with a strong B+. Check the website for changes due to weather.
Sorry but I must move this ride to Sunday. Meet at the Manorville King Kullen, LIE exit 70 1/2 mile south, for an easy ride to Bean & Bagel, my first ride this year, will be at the lower average range for this ride, please get there early so we can leave on time, please check this website 1 hour before for any changes. Bring money for rest stop, Great bagels and coffee.
Ride to Quogue Wildlife Refuge for a snack and bathroom break (bring snack and water). Pace will most likely be on the very low end of C+ (around 12). Route is mostly flat. I still hope to do enough rides to be able to do the Metric Century but come along either way. Remember to set your clocks AHEAD one hour before going to bed Saturday night or you'll be late for the ride. Optional pizza after the ride. Cell phone 516-330-1542. Always check the website for any cancellations prior to the ride.
Since last Sunday's ride was shortened because of the weather I am keeping the distance at 20 for this week. We'll try to up the pace a little, into the low B- range ( 13.0 - 13.5 ). Snack stop at the Beach Bakery. We can meet up with Tricia's group after the ride.
Today I’m going to Middle Island; care to join me? The average pace for the ride will be between 13.5 and 13.9 mph. The road speed will be slightly higher to produce the average. No one will be dropped. We will be making a bagel/bathroom stop about half way. Please check the ride calendar for any weather, or last minute cancellations which will be posted no later than 8:00 AM if necessary. My cell number is 631.484.3490; call anytime if you have questions.
Let's celebrate day-light-savings with a hilly, early season, multi-stop ride averaging around 14.0 - 14.5 mph. Cruising speed will likely reach the high teens.
Being early in the season, we'll, or I'll, struggle with the hills of Stony Brook, Old Field and Setauket, and take a bunch of breaks along the way.
With sunset at 7:12pm and cloud-cover in the forecast, bright colored clothing and bicycle lighting, front and back if you have it, are highly recommended.
Narrow roads require single file riding along most of the route. The ride allows a few locations to break-away from the group, as instructed by the ride leader, otherwise the group will stay together.
First Tuesday night ride of the season. We will stay in the East Islip neighborhoods south of Montauk Hwy. If it is not too windy we will do one loop of the bike path in Heckscher Park. Mileage is approximate, it may go as high as 15. Mileage and pace will increase as the season progresses.
Southern State Pkwy Exit 37 South, Belmont Ave., take it South to the first traffic light after Sunrise Hwy. Make a right, you will see the school on the left. Please park in the lot closest to Little East Neck Rd. If you are going to ride, please feel free to call Eric 516-526-0016
Going for 40 this week. Almost half a century. Very, very slight chance of a shower on Saturday, but nothing that will stop us. If anything I reserve the right to delay the ride for weather, so check here early Saturday morning.
This will be a B- pace ride (~14.5-15.0mph avg, 16.0-17.0mph on the flats).
Please get to the parking lot 15 minutes earlier to unload your bike, top off your tires, etc. We'll be meeting in the Coram-Pine shopping center, on the Dunkin Donuts side of the lot. Not by the movie theater. Not by Best Yet. Not by Bella Maria Pizzeria. By the Dunkin Donuts.
Refreshments / Coffee stop at Jamesport Duffys Deli, brief stop/reassembly as needed at IPBP and other key locations. [/][/b]
Looking for a good base level A (but up to A+, AA at times) pace. No one getting dropped.
In general I want to see this smooth super efficient team effort to optimize time!!! Smooth but fast in general. Little playing allowed at the few dedicated hilly sections (you will find out). Reassembly after that -- always, no worries.
** Come for a training ride -- "as fast as you are working with me" **
I classified it back down to A all-over -- but we will go some sections at A+..AA pace for sure (if you go and work with me) -- A and good B+ riders are always welcome, may form a trailing group, if any? -- learn how to work as a team!! -- we will have some wait ups (on top of the 1st lil hill if needed) but we will not wait on every turn -- as I also classified it as TEAM, what means exactly this -- stay all together as much as possible and help each other for most efficiency and best pace w/o dropping any one -- regardless, unless on riders request or extreme mismatch.... -- you better be able sit in easy at 19..21mph and try to handle a few faster sections (slow down afterwards for reassembly) -- have fun!
Rocky Point 2 Iron Peer Beach Park for quick snack watching the sound and reassembly, Coffee/Refreshments now in Jamesport Duffys Deli. Watch for weather related updates or delays -- will post any change or cancellations by very latest start time -1 hour at the day of ride, if unsure, contact me. Let's Go Flying. Starts promptly as indicated on top at Tildas Bake Shop, typical moving time 2h45..3h depending on you. Starts out with some rollers on North Country Rd to warm up, will go fast, but will do the best to reassemble group after 1st climb(s) and as needed, group stays together as a Team AND SHARES THE WIND if any and has fun like few flying birds! Read here for past ride logs, stories, photos and details: http://pyzahl.blogspot.com/search?q=RP2IPBP
However, this is a team style training ride, lean and execute team play, work together not to show off -- with exception of a few designated sections to play... with following regrouping.
*** RIDE IS A GO!! *** It looks like the rain has pretty much cleared! But no guarantees...we may / may not see a spritze...
ALF is back from Area 51, possibly still a little green, but it's a good color for the upcoming holiday.
So, we'll leave the Holtsville Ecology Park for a run out to Manorville with a short stop at the bagel store. We'll return through Yaphank, with a run up Mill Road.
This will be a faster B+ ride, but we will work to keep the group together. Note: This will be paceline ride.
It’s off to Manorville today. The average pace for the ride will be between 13.5 to 13.9 mph. naturally, the road speed will be slightly higher to produce the average. A rest/ food stop at Mc Donald’s or the bagel shop is scheduled about mile 13. On the way back we can make another bathroom stop at Southaven Park (anyone know if the restrooms are open) if needed. No one will be dropped. Please check the ride calendar for any weather, or last minute cancellations which will be posted no later than 8:00AM if necessary. My cell number is 631.484.3490; call anytime if you have questions or need directions to the start.
Looking to switch it up this week and we will head to Heckscher State Park. There is a deli stop along the way with a bathroom. Depending on the group if we loop the park once or twice so we can add some extra miles. Please arrive 20 minutes earlly to be ready to roll at 9:30.
I am not in riding shape so Bob took over my B+ training rides on Sunday and since there is no B training ride this Saturday figured I would post one. Milage is an estimate. It will be between 30 and 35. I will lead this ride like my B+ rides (from the back), but seriously I would like others to share the load and take a pull. Makes it easier on everyone if we all share the work. Rest stop at Handi Pantry mile 18
MOVED THE TIME 15 MINS EARLIER AS I NEED TO BE SOMEWHERE BY 1:30 AND WOULD LIKE TO GET HOME TO SHOWER FIRST!
Had another route in mind but want to avoid the WHB parade so we'll go to Manorville with a rest stop about mile 16. This has some hilly spots so the pace will definitely be lower C+ with wait ups after the hills. Cell phone 516-330-1542.
Driving your car east on Main Street in Riverhead, make a right on McDermott (a church is on your left) to park by the water. We'll lunch in Mattituck.
We may go out at first with Pete's Century Training Ride. This ride is intended for those who intend to do the Spring Century/Metric. Pace will come in around 15.5 give or take depending on conditions and the group. Rest stop at the mid point. Wait ups at major turns.
Mileage is increased by 5 miles over last week's ride and the destination is also changed. This week we will be heading west and north from Eastport to Manorville, with a food/rest stop around mile 20. Since we haven't been able to finish yet with a 13.0 or higher pace I am posting this as a C+/B- but the goal will be to finish on the low end of the B- range. Cancellation or postponement for any reason will be posted no later than 9:00AM on Saturday.
It is too cold to road ride today. It's below freezing to start the ride. See some of you Thursday when I'll be reporting the ride. Stay warm.
I will post a go/no go by 7:40. If it's predicted to be less than 32 by 8:00 am, the ride will be cancelled.
This week we will be riding from Shoreham to Manorville and then points south. Bring $$$ for snacks. We will NOT be pushing too hard today so to accommodate those riders that did not ride last Sunday. Depending on the the group's desires we may run a second, slightly faster group.
PLEASE SHOW UP ON TIME to be ready to roll by 9:00 AM.
Taking over for Pete for the lower end B+ Century Training Rides. We will stay within the B+ pace so NO HIJACKERS!!! We will have a SHORT break halfway thru. B riders looking to move up to B+ this is a good place to start.
Bob DeVito

*3/16/2014 – 7:15AM – If it’s too cold & windy at the ride start the mileage will be cut back to around 20, and you can have only one jelly donut*
Let’s take a scenic ride through Eastport, Remsenburg and Westhampton Beach. The average pace will be between 13.5 & 13.9mph., naturally, the road speed will be slightly higher to produce the average. No one will be dropped. Around mile 21 we’ll stop at the Beach Bakery for some goodies and a bathroom break before heading back to the start. Please check the ride calendar for any weather, or last minute cancellations which will be posted no later than 8:00AM if necessary. My cell phone# is 631.484.3490; call anytime if you have questions.
Join me for a ride to Manorville. There will be wait ups with an effort to keep the group together. The pace will be a strong B+. (Glen 631 241 2785 C)
I am shortening the ride due to cold and wind Bean & Bagel ride. This will be the Metric Training ride #2. The plan is for us to increase by 5 miles each week. Meet at the Manorville King Kullen, LIE exit 70 1/2 mile south, for an easy ride, will be at the lower average range for this ride, please get there early so we can leave on time, please check this website 1 hour before for any changes. Bring money for rest stop, Great snacks and coffee. No one left behind.
Welcome to Hills 101. We ride the North Shore hills around the Three Villages with wait-ups as necessary for all riders. Starting out as C+, we end up doing this ride at a B- in the summer. For now, we will be in the 12.5-13.5 range on the flats and we take the hills at our own level. Final average will be in the 12-13mph range.
If you've always wanted to work on your hills skills, this is for you.
This ride has no bathroom stop but we do take a snack break at the Old Field lighthouse. Weather cancellation will be posted by 9AM.
My cell -- day of event only -- is 631-835-1454

How about coffee and a little exercise? The ride is going to work like this. All rides will be around 15 miles I have put together several routes; choosing one in the morning which hopefully will put the wind at our backs during the return trip. We will stop for coffee and a bathroom about half way. Coffee locations will be a deli, 7-11, Mickey D’s, Wendy’s, Subway, Bakery or a bagel shop. The average pace for the ride will be between 13.5 and 13.9 mph. The road speed will be slightly higher to produce the average. No one will be dropped. Please check the ride calendar for any weather, or last minute cancellations which will be posted no later than 8:00 AM if necessary. Please come join me on my first ride I'm leading and celebrate the beginning of spring. Basically a big loop of Yaphank with some small rollers and hot dog hill.
Hey lets beat the summer rush and do some beach bumming. We'll hit all the beaches we can in our 30 mile ride. It's hard to predict a pace for a hill ride but we will definitely stay within the "B" ride limits. We will keep a: "This is a fun ride," attitude. No one will be dropped. My cell is (631) 879-5365. Call anytime for more details.
Sorry family emergency.
Let's get ready for the weekend with a 22.5 mile ride in and around Calverton and Manorville. The ride location, Veterans Memorial Park, is new, but it's a great place to gather and begin the ride. It's located on Route 25, 3.5 miles east of the William Floyd Parkway. The average pace for the ride will be between 13.5 to 14.5 mph. Cruising speed at times may be higher to produce the average. There will be a rest/ food stop at Mc Donald’s or the bagel shop on Route 111 in Manorville. No one will be dropped. Please check the ride calendar for last minute changes or cancellations which will be posted no later than 7:30 AM if necessary. My cell number is (631) 804-0751.
I want to get a trail ride in. I don't know what shape the park is in, but lets try. There is no parking fee yet. go to the lower lot, to the left after entering. my cell is [631]478-9072
Halfway to a century! Weather looks somewhat iffy. 50% chance of passing shower but no significant accumulations. Good temps too. The wind will be on our side for half the ride! If anything changes weather-wise and I have to delay/cancel, I will do so early Saturday morning. No change here means it's a go.
Shooting for a high B-/low B pace (14.8-15.2mph avg, 15.5-17.5mph on the flats)
Cue sheet available here: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/4267421 Note the hills :) Don't fret, they're whipping us into shape for a nice flat century.
Please get to the parking lot 15 minutes before the posted start time to unload/sign in/etc. We meet at the Coram-Pine Shopping Center on the Dunkin Donuts side of the lot.
We will need to start heading east to add on the miles and thought we could use a change of scenery. Please note the time change! We will keep to the pace of 13.5 - 14 with a faster pace on the straights. There will be a rest stop at McDonald's or the bagel shop at around mile 16. The weather is not promising so in the event that we need to postpone I am going to try and repost for Sunday. Any cancellations will be posted by 7 am. If you have any questions feel free to contact my cell at 631-767-3176.
Park along Old Neck behind Wendy's. Various commitments this weekend make this the only time I can ride so unless it is pouring, this ride will be a go. (always check back to see the status of any ride before starting out). There will be a stop at the Beach Bakery at mile 17. Cell phone 516-330-1542.
(sorry-just changed the ride start to the right one!!)
I am back and ready to get back to training. We will be heading out to Manorville today and stopping at around the 18 mile point for a rest stop. The pace will be around 15-5- 16 mph (high end of a B pace) Please check for any changes due to weather prior to leaving for the ride.
It’s off to Manorville today. The average pace for the ride will be between 13.5 to 13.9 mph. naturally, the road speed will be slightly higher to produce the average. We are going to extend the miles by a bit and ride all the way to the end of Mill Road this time. We'll share the load into the wind and do our best to keep everyone together. There will be a stop at the Manorville bagel shop at around 28 miles into the ride.
As usual this will be a strong B+ paceline ride with several regroups along the way.

There is rain in the forecast for Saturday so, depending on when it is expected, the start time may be moved up or pushed back. Check the Ride Calendar Saturday morning for any updates.
My first ride of the year. No one left behind. Must have a helmet to be on the ride. Approved water bottles that fit snug in the holder. No Poland spring type will be permitted on my ride. 20 miles at C- pace. Suppose to be windy tomorrow so dress appropriately. Any cancellations will be by 9am.

Quick afternoon ride for extra miles..if any changes will post by 11:30... we will do between 15 and 20 miles depending on weather and group..my cell is 631-478-9072.
This week we will be riding from Shoreham to Manorville and then points south. Bring $$$ for snacks. We will NOT be pushing too hard today so to accommodate those riders that have not been able to ride much. Depending on the the group's desires we may run a second, slightly faster group.
PLEASE SHOW UP ON TIME to be ready to roll by 9:00 AM.
I missed a week of training so I am doing this ride again for anyone that could not make yesterday. All are welcome not just riders training for the Century.
Check the morning of the ride for any updates or changes!
If it turns out to be another cold and windy day (BELOW 32) the mileage will be cut back. Always check the ride calendar for any weather, or last minute cancellations which will be posted no later than 8:00AM if necessary. My cell phone# is 631.484.3490; call anytime if you have questions.

Come take a ride before it gets cold again. Looking at a 16mph average if conditions are favorable. Not looking to pound the pedals or leave anyone behind.
Will post any changes by 7am. Cell #516-672-1564
I am posting this week's ride for Monday since there is a chance of snow on Tuesday into Wednesday. If the forecast changes over the weekend I may push the ride back to its regular day and time on Tuesday. I will post an update to the Ride Calendar late Sunday evening so please check before leaving for the ride.
Since the group did a low B- pace last week, even with the wind, I am increasing the pace to B- for this week. Starting next month the mileage will be increasing as well.
UPDATE: The rain is supposed to start between late morning and early afternoon. Regardless, we won't get all 60 in safely. Wind, hills, rain, and slick roads do not go well together. I'm being proactive and shortening the ride. We can attempt to redo our 30 from a couple of weeks ago just to get something in. Same time, same place.
If things are too disgusting when I wake up, I'll just cancel. Either way we will try for 60 again next week.
----
Weather reports for this Saturday don't look that great, but this is LI and things can change in an instant. If I have to delay/cancel, I will indicate that in this posting by 7AM on Saturday.
Shooting for a high B-/low B pace (14.8-15.2mph avg, 15.5-17.5mph on the flats). As we found out last week, hills and wind will affect this a bit, but it's nice to have a goal.
Cue sheet available here: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/4285826 Look at the elevation profile...looks kind of like a saw blade :) You'll all be thanking me at Shagwong when we're scoffing down burgers the size of my head.
Please get to the parking lot 15 minutes before the posted start time to unload/sign in/etc. We meet at the Coram-Pine Shopping Center on the Dunkin Donuts side of the lot.
Update!!! I would like to start at 9:00 so we get the ride in before the rain rolls in. Also I want to extend the distance to 45 miles today. Same stop at Manorville McDonalds for the rest stop.
We will be doing 40 miles today and stopping at the halfway point for a food /rest break. The group will stay together. Check the morning of the ride for any updates.
**NEW START TIME 9:00AM** Must keep our tootsies dry…AS OF 7AM THIS MORNING I CAN'T SEEM TO FIND ANY PEACHY CREAMY WEATHER REPORTS. THEREFORE, MILEAGE WILL WE CUT BACK SOMEWHERE BETWEEN 22 AND 32. DECESION AT THE START. It’s off to Manorville once again. The route will change a little in the middle and the return route will change somewhat. We can alter this if the wind is bad. This route will give you a new look over last Saturdays ride; different pot holes. If you did 32 miles in last week’s wind another 4 miles is a “walk in the park”. I promise no 20 mph for this ride; I guess hope is a better word! The average pace for the ride will be between 13.5 to 13.9 mph. naturally, the road speed will be slightly higher to produce the average. A rest/ food stop at Mc Donald’s or the bagel shop is scheduled about mile 20. Click "read more" for more info. Always check the ride calendar for any weather, or last minute cancellations which will be posted no later than 8:00AM if necessary. . My cell number is 631.484.3490; call anytime if you have questions or need directions to the start.
After last weekends hills and wind I wanted to increase the mileage but keep it flat. This is a great ride but I am not promising anything about the wind. As always please show up 20 minutes early to get yourself ready so we can roll out at 9 am. Not sure if the bathrooms will be open at the beach but we can try to make a stop along the way if needed. Could be a chance of rain so be sure to check back Saturday morning. Any changes will be posted by 7 am. If you have any questions, feel free to contact my cell at 631-767-3176.
START TIME CHANGED TO 9:00. DEPENDING ON WEATHER MAY SHORTEN TO 30 MILES.
Still working on getting enough miles in to do the Metric Century but all riders are welcomed on this ride. Park along Old Neck Rd. behind Wendy's. We will make a stop at the Beach Bakery around mile 22. Always check the ride post before leaving in case weather or other problems change the ride. Any change will be posted by 8 am. Definitely LOW end of C+ pace (around 12 mph). Praying the wind is better this week! Cell phone 516-330-1542.
This week's century training ride leaves the Holtsville Ecology Site and changes-up the route as we head out to that Alien Highway (Route 51). This time we'll ride down the hill, so be ready for a fast descent.
We'll try to keep an honest B+ pace, so everyone gets to ride together. They'll be several regroups and a rest / fuel stop in Manorville.
Sorry I have to Cancel this ride. Meet at the Manorville King Kullen, LIE exit 70 1/2 mile south, for an easy ride to Bean & Bagel, will be at the lower average range for this ride, please get there early so we can leave on time, please check this website 1 hour before for any changes. Bring money for rest stop, Great bagels and coffee. No one left behind!
UPDATE - SATURDAY - 7:30AM - RIDE IS A GO. MILEAGE MAY BE REDUCED TO 25 OR 30 MILES OR I MAY ELIMINATE THE FOOD STOP, BRING SNACKS JUST IN CASE.
UPDATE - FRIDAY 8:30AM - FORECAST FOR SUNDAY IS NOT GOOD SO I AM MOVING THE RIDE UP TO SATURDAY AT 10:00AM. SINCE THERE IS RAIN IN THE FORECAST FOR SATURDAY AS WELL I MAY SHORTEN THE DISTANCE OF THE RIDE AND ONLY GO AS FAR EAST AS WESTHAMPTON BEACH. CHECK THE RIDE CALENDAR ON SATURDAY AT 7:30AM. IF I HAVEN'T CANCELLED THE RIDE BY THEN I PLAN TO BE AT THE RIDE START AND MAKE A FINAL "GO/NO GO" DECISION AT THAT TIME.
Ride east from Eastport through Westhampton Beach and Hampton Bays with a food/rest stop at Tully's. Anticipated pace, subject to wind speed and direction, will be on the low end of the B- range ( 13.0 - 13.9 ). If John Martin is on this ride and asks nicely, we can take a 2-mile detour for an extra snack break at the Beach Bakery in Westhampton. There is a chance I may have to move this ride up to Saturday. Be sure to check the Ride Calendar on Friday evening for any updates to this posting.
Lets see if we can get some miles under our belts so that we can do the century in a few weeks. There is another B/B+ ride on Saturday and none on Sunday so I am changing this to Sunday. Please Note though not a formal paceline we will all take turns at pulling so that not one person has to do all the work and the load is shared.
There could be a break in this rain but wet roads and more showers likely.
Our millage is increasing but the pace should stay about the same. Join me for a B+ pace line training ride. This is a steady strong B+. We keep together and wait up when needed. Rest stop in Manorville. Preview the route at http://ridewithgps.com/routes/2267587 or download the route sheet at http://tinyurl.com/kjut4ly (Glen 631 241 2785 Cell)
We'll continue our weekly metric century training rides with a leisurely loop through Riverhead and South Jamesport to Briermere for a snack/rest stop. Leader will maintain a 13-14 mph level ground cruising speed. No one will be dropped.
**3/30/14 - 7:40AM -CANCELED due to wet roads, and more rain might be coming and I don't want to get wet again**
I usually do this ride on weekdays, but thought I would switch it to a weekend this time to give those who can’t make the weekday ride a new route and a different look. We will be going from Holbrook to Bellport ending up in Patchogue around mile 19 for a break at Mickey D’s, or a deli/bakery. The average pace will be between 13.5 and 13.9 mph. naturally, the road speed will be slightly higher to produce the average; no one will be dropped. Always check the ride calendar for any weather, or last minute cancellations which will be posted no later than 8:00AM if necessary. My cell number is 631-484-3490; call anytime if you have questions or need directions to the start. The start is the Holbrook Country Club, see map above for detailed driving directions.
