Welcome to Hills 101. We ride the North Shore hills around the Three Villages with wait-ups as necessary for all riders. Starting out as C+, we end up doing this ride at a B- in the summer. For now, we will be in the 12.5-13.5 range on the flats and we take the hills at our own level. Final average will be in the 12-13mph range.
If you've always wanted to work on your hills skills, this is for you.
This ride has no bathroom stop but we do take a snack break at the Old Field lighthouse. Weather cancellation will be posted by 9AM.
My cell -- day of event only -- is 631-835-1454
Is this ride for-real or is it a joke;). After all it's April 1st which makes it April fool's day.
Structured hilly ride through Stony Brook, Old Field and Setauket.
With sunset at 7:15pm bright colored clothing and bicycle lighting, front and back, are highly recommended.
Narrow roads require single file riding along most of the route. The ride allows a few locations to break-away from the group, as instructed by the ride leader, otherwise the group will stay together.
We will skip the loop in Heckscher Park this week and instead travel west along Union Blvd into Islip. From there it will be south to Islip Beach for a short rest stop before returning to the ride start. Pace will be on the low end of the B- range. Cancellation for any reason will be posted no later than 3:30PM on Tuesday. If cancelled, the ride may be rescheduled for Wednesday.
Joe is leading his usual Tuesday evening rides out of JFK Elementary school which he does every year. Would anyone be interested in faster ride on Tuesday evenings? Reply here or call my cell at 631-365-7588. Please do not tell me you are coming unless you are sure.

***Weather here in Yaphank is dry. Ride is a go unless rain starts. I will be at the ride start regardless.***
Rides are getting longer so we will start just a little earlier today. 55 miles today with a stop or 2 along the way for rest/food stop. This is a training ride for the century but those that have been riding are welcome to join. Group stays together.
8:45 am - Wheels will be rolling - too many groups leaving at the same time.
We are picking up the miles this week. We have been averaging 13.7 - 14 mph. Looking to keep it that pace, of course straights will run a bit higher and wind is always a factor. There will be a stop or two along the way but bring water and snacks to keep up your energy. All are welcome to ride even if your not doing the Century. No one will be dropped. Right now the weather is not promising so as always, keep checking back here. I will post any cancellations by 7 am on Saturday morning. If I cancel this will be moved to Sunday. Any questions, feel free to contact me on my cell at 631-767-3176.
I have plans for Sunday so lets attempt to get this ride in and get some milage under our belts so that we can do the century. Of course right now they are predicting rain (what else is new) so check back. Hopefully it will be a nice day and we can get this ride in.
Century Training Ride (CTR) # 6 takes us out to Mill Road, Route 24 and then up the Hill on the Alien Highway, with a stop in Manorville. We will head back through Yaphank on the return leg home.
I know last weekend was lousy so let’s just add a few more miles. As fast as you guys and gals went last week trying to go between the rain drops I know you can do it, besides we’ll have a good time. The ride will be fun if Mother Nature is on our side. It’s a scenic ride through Eastport, Remsenburg, Westhampton Beach, and points east. The wind direction will determine the route to be taken. If we have a mild, straight East or West wind we will be using Dunne Road (wind at our back) as part of the route. We will be making a rest/food stop at Tully’s around mile 20 for some great clam chowder or fishy stuff. Peddle another 13 miles to the Beach Bakery for some sweet goodies or a bagel and then back to the start. Click “read more” below for more information. The average pace for the ride will be between 13.5-14.0 mph, No one will be dropped. Always check the ride calendar for any weather, or last minute cancellations which will be posted no later than 8:00AM if necessary. My cell phone# is 631.484.3490; call anytime if you have questions.

We will meander south and east through Center Moriches and East Moriches before heading north and west to Manorville with a food/rest stop at McD's. This will be a warm-up for tomorrow's ride to Tully's so I will be keeping the pace a little slower ( 12.5 - 13.5 ). Cancellation for any reason will be posted no later than 8AM on Saturday.
Leave Sayville RR Station South Parking lot (across the street from boarding platform) at 10AM. Lunch by the dock in Bellport. Training ride for Tour de Dune Road.
We will meet across the street from the Wantagh Train Station, at Brands Cycle and Fitness. Please park next to the railroad tracks or at the end of the block in the parking. Do not park in the store lot or the dinner. It is exit 28S, take Wantagh Ave South, take it towards Sunrise Hwy. As soon as you pass the Mcdonald's and you will go under an overpass, make a right and park there or the end of the block.
The ride will go through Westbury, Old Westbury, Brookville, Muttontown, Syosett, Plainview, Bethpage, and back.....See you there, goo alternative to doing Suffolk County every year.

* THE 66 MILE RIDE IS ON!!*
No time to make a Training Ride this coming weekend, so I'm leading one this Friday morning. My plan is to ride INTO the wind as much as possible on the first half ... and get the boost on the way back home. Think of it as a tail wind to Montauk and the train ride home.To accomplish this, even the RIDE START MAY CHANGE! This will be a strong B to moderate B+ pace (at most). Check back to this posting for more details and especially on the morning of the ride as there is currently a 25% chance of r--n.
IF necessary, future changes will be located below and indicated with an '*'
* As of 5:30 Thursday, Sorry about the indecision but it's driven by the forecast *
Check back tomorrow after 7:15 AM for final decision:
1. if it's raining the ride will be cancelled;
2. if forecast is for possible showers in PJS <30% then the ride will be into the wind and ~66 miles
3. if forecast is > 30% then I will be doing my Pumping Iron Ride which will be decribed below ...
Pumping Iron Ride:
This ride is a workout! ... Using gmaps (http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=5462216) I came up with ~3100 feet of climbing. It ain't the Grand Frondo and it wasn't enough to train for riding in the mountains of France but its has its ups & downs, ditto, ditto, ditto, (you get the idea). We'll do the 30 miles all within 5 miles of Port Jefferson. The B+ is more of a difficulty rating rather then the pace at the end of the ride. If we end up doing near 14+ mph average then we should be feel good about how we rode the hills. Check out the cue sheet at http://www.sbraweb.org/sites/default/files/MtSinai-Pumping-Iron-30mi.pdf.
Meet Manovlille Kig Kullen, LIE exit 70 1/2 mile south. Easy pace will be at the lower range for this level, no one left behind. Bring money for rest stop. Please get there early as I will leave on time.
This week we're doing a change of venue. We are meeting at Sunshine Mall for a pretty flat 70. Weather patterns look OK so far. We'll get to experience the wonder that is Dune Road, where the wind is in your face in both directions. We will probably do some paceline training on that stretch to share the load.
I'm going ahead and listing this one as a B: 15-15.5 average, 16-18 cruising on the flats.
Come on out and join us for a ride on our very popular shop ride loop! The loop will take us on some of the best roads the north shore has to offer. The distance is 35 miles and the pace will be between a 17-18 mph average. Feel free to give us a call if you have any questions!
631-744-5372
No fee parking on side streets or across the street at LIRR station lot.
Ride the flat way to Commack, then rolling hills to Stony Brook. No Town of Smithtown Beaches this time an no Cordwood Path. Mostly flat return to Lindenhurst
Metric Century Plus with food stop at Fratellis in Stony Brook. Other pit stops as needed.
No go in rain.
We are well into the training rides at this point and more than half of the distance of the century. We will make a few stops today , one for food and one for more of a saddle break. Please come on time...I might move the time to 8:00 so check closer to the date of the ride for any adjustments.
We are getting closer!!!
We are past the half way point and we have been looking good considering the awful weather we have been experiencing. I am still planning out the route but most likely will be heading out to the Hamptons, one of my favorite rides out there. What would a Saturday training ride be if I didn't mention that it COULD rain. Things change so make sure you check back here during the week for either route change, time change or possible day change (could move to Sunday if the weather doesn't cooperate). I will post any final changes by 6 am Saturday morning. Hang in there, we can do this!
We are a go (6:30 am 4/12). Ride to Briermiere via Remsenburg, West Hamptom, Quogue. QUICK (only) stop at Briermere after the tank loop. Head back thru Manorville. Honest B. Dishonest riders welcome just take a cue sheet. I'll void my warranty if I try to catch you after a wrong turn.
** Only change is the start time to 9:30AM**. It’s off to Manorville today. The route is 35 miles, if I make any changes it will only add about 1 mile. The average pace for the ride will be between 13.9 to 14.3 mph. naturally, the road speed will be slightly higher to produce the average. I will keep the road speed comfortable depending on the wind direction. For those who want there will be a spot or two where one can stretch the legs. A rest/ food stop at Mc Donald’s or the bagel shop is scheduled about mile 20. No one will be dropped. Please check the ride calendar for any weather, or last minute cancellations which will be posted no later than 8:00AM if necessary. My cell number is 631.484.3490; call anytime if you have questions or need directions to the start.
IF YOU DIDN'T RIDE TUESDAY YOU SHOULD BE HERE TODAY! Another short easy ride to get in shape for this years ride season. Ride leaves from the south parking lot at 10AM. No one gets left behind. Any cancellation will be by 9AM. Be advised - after this I will start to post longer rides, so you better get with the program!
Mainly flat with a couple of steep short hills in the second 1/4 of the ride. Regroup after hills and as required.
Plan to average 17-18mph. There will be an option to do 30 miles, we will vote at ride start.
Updates for rain will be posted no later than 10:00 am. www.ridewithgps.com/routes/4341209
B+ Training ride for the Montauk Century. We will be visiting Area 51 .
Good ride for those of us that find Glen's ride just a tad too fast...
Average around 17 +
Since the weather for Saturday is predicted to be rainy, I've moved this week's ride to Sunday. This ride will be a slightly faster version of Bob's ride. We'll head out to Route 51 and then up to Sound Ave. to visit Boy Scout Hill (westbound).
We'll combine rides with Bob's if there aren't enough riders interested in this ride.
THE SHOPPING CENTER IS APPROX. 1/2 MILES WEST OF LIE EXIT 68 ON 25A.
The new name of the store is Sassy Salads.
Come ride with me as we ride a new route. This route is a combination of several sections of my other rides, just in reverse.
A group of us rode this route Thursday and the route received rave reviews :)
Bring $$$ for snacks. Rest stops will happen as the group requires.
We will head west and north from Eastport into Manorville, Calverton and Riverhead with a snack/rest stop at Briermere.
Pace should be higher than previous weeks ( 13.5 - 14.5 ), depending as usual at this time of the year on wind speed and direction.
If the weather forecast is bad for Sunday this ride may be moved up to Saturday.
Be sure to check the Ride Calendar Friday evening for any updates.
The bike path has been cleaned. How about taking a ride to Great River today? We will go the usual route through Connetquot Park and then do a loop in Heckscher Park where one can stretch the legs a bit. The route is mostly flat with 2 little hills. We'll do a loop through Manorville, Jamesport and Riverhead with a snack stop at Briemere and an optional loop around the tanks. Leader will maintain a 13-15 mph level ground cruising speed. No one will be dropped.
LET'S GET THIS PARTY STARTED II
Take this mostly flat/downhill 20 mile journey through Ronkonkoma, Holtsville, and Bohemia. Winds will be 5-9 mph with temps in the mid 50's. No one left behind. Any cancellation will be by 9AM. Meet on the EXTREME North East parking lot. Wheels down at 10AM! If you're not there your legs will turn to rubber!
Bicycle on the South Fork before those noisy New York City prople flood the area. Leave at 10:30AM. Park at King Kullen parking lot across Ponquogue Avenue from the Hampton Bays RR Station. Lunch at great place La Parmagagna in Southhampton. Unfortunately only one-percenters are recommended to do this ride as most 99-percenters become severely depressed on viewing the gigantic hedges that line the Southampton roads where I and my compatriots summer.
Meet at 7:15 for a 7:30am prompt start from Tildas. This is RP2IPBP out to Orient Point totaling just over the century mark (102mi total). This is a B+/A team style ride so strong B+ riders are welcome. Basically an early season A ride averaging around 18. The plan is to stay together, there will be wait-ups as needed and a couple of rests including a deli stop in Greenport Village. So bring a few bucks. 102 miles total time should be about 5 1/2 hours so prepare(ie. hydration/food, spare tubes/maintenance). Although we do plan on staying together, riders do need to be self sufficient and capable! Bring a friend if you are concerned about having someone to ride with at the slower pace. Early season long ride, this can be your century training century! Please let me know your interest via e-mail or give me a call 516.383.1485 . Any changes will be before 6am day of ride. As many of you know, I usually do a Tuesday evening ride, but because of a family commitment, this week it's Monday. For those hard core Tuesday nighters, Mike Adams is doing the Tuesday evening ride.
Ride is 26 miles. With sunset at 7:30pm bright colored clothing and bicycle lighting, front and back, are highly recommended.
This is a hilly and structured ride through Stony Brook, Old Field and Setauket.
Narrow roads require single file riding along most of the route. The ride allows a few locations to break-away from the group, as instructed by the ride leader, otherwise the group will stay together.
Canceled due to rain .Do the ride Thursday with Bill. Meet Manovlille Kig Kullen, LIE exit 70 1/2 mile south. Easy pace will be at the lower range for this level, no one left behind. Bring money for rest stop. Please get there early as I will leave on time.

Group will ride singe file and stay together. There will be a few breakaway areas. No one gets dropped. Pace will be slower than Paul and Mike. Expected average with the hills ... About 14-14.5. Ride through East Islip and Islip with a short rest stop at Islip Beach. Pace will be on the low end of the B- range. Cancellation for any reason will be posted no later than 3:30PM on Tuesday. If cancelled, the ride may be rescheduled for either Wednesday or Thursday.
Mainly flat with a couple of steep short hills. Regroup after hills and as required.
Plan to average 17-18mph. Possibly reverse direction depending on sun or clouds. www.ridewithgps.com/routes/4341209
It will be too muddy ... See ThursdayApril 17th ....This will be my first night ride at Glacier this year ... Depending on the group that shows the list of expected BDs may be modified. I plan an easy night ride. NO ONE GETS DROPPED in the woods at night. Wait-ups at each diamond.I figure to do CR83 (N &S), Sidewinder, Hunter's Trail, Dark Side of the Moon and White Ghost ... maybe we'll get lucky again and see the eight glowing green eyes at the entrance to White Ghost trail . We'll be starting just before the sunsets, so lights are a necessity ... if you have a bar light AND a helmet light you will have no problems. Think good weather but check back here a day or two in advance and ON THE DAY OF THE RIDE to verify there are no changes. Dependent on the weather I may even shift the day/time of the ride to the following evening. Here's a link to CLIMB's map: http://www.climbonline.org/pdf/glacier_ridge_west-east_8x11_05-01-08.pdf ... Easy ride to Westhampton beach. Meet at Manorville, King Kullen-LIE exit 70. Make a right at the light
(South) and go appx. one half mile. Park behind McDonalds in main parking lot. We will stop in Westhampton for a bathroom stop, and snacks at a coffee house or restaurant. Beach Bakery might be closed for Passover. Bill Gravitz, cell number for day of ride is 631-356-3036.
We are going to shoot for Ronkonkoma since this seems to be the favorite route, but the wind must cooperate. All rides will be around 15 miles I have put together several routes; choosing one in the morning which hopefully will put the wind at our backs during the return trip. We will stop for coffee and a bathroom about half way. The average pace for the ride will be between 13.9 and 14.4 mph. The road speed will be slightly higher to produce the average. No one will be dropped. Please check the ride calendar for any weather, or last minute cancellations which will be posted no later than 8:00 AM if necessary. My cell number is 631.484.3490; call anytime if you have questions.
Nice evening, mostly flat, 16 mile, B- ride in and around Calverton. The ride start location, Veterans Memorial Park, is new. It's located on Route 25, 3.5 miles east of the William Floyd Parkway on the right side after the baseball fields and before the National Cemetery. The average pace for the ride will be between 13.5 to 14.5 mph. Cruising speed at times will be higher to produce the average. The ride's average for me is determined by wind speed and the ability of those that show up. There will be a short rest stop around mile 7. No one will be dropped. Please check the ride calendar for last minute changes or cancellations which will be posted no later than 4:30 PM if necessary. My cell number is (631) 804-0751.

Easy pace up into Strongs Neck, Old Field and West Meadow. Porta -lav at west Meadow Beach. No shops on ride so bring a snack.
We will wait for everyone on the hills. Go at your own pace....no pressure.
No one will get dropped.
Once again, all the riders who taught me how to ride with Bobby on his AM coffee runs will love this ride.
I will post changes by 7am.
Cell # 516-672-1564
Don't make excuses!!!!! A strong wind on 4/14 managed to push us on 80% of the ride. We returned home with ease by ducking out of those wind tunnels and Nichols rd. You missed it!!!!!
Ride mostly flat from Lindenhurst to Commack, then rolling Hills to Roslyn
Deli/Bakery Stop in Roslyn
Mostly flat return via Commack
No go in rain
NOTE: Parking on side streets or across the street at LIRR station lot, parking is not restricted on weekends.
Saturday's weather forecast is steadily improving as the week progresses. The showers they were calling for appear to be out of the picture, and what we're left with is a sunny day with light winds and highs in the low 60s. It's going to be in the high 30s/low 40s at ride start so dress appropriately.
We are going with a low B pace posting (15-15.5 avg, 16-18 cruising on the flats).
We will meet at the Coram-Pine Shopping Center at the Dunkin Donuts end of the lot. Please be there 15 minutes early to sign in, unload your bike, etc.
Hang in there we are almost there! We have been working hard and getting strong. I'm still working on the route but it will be between 65-75 miles. There will be some stops, possibly Briermere, but bring snacks just in case. What would a training ride be if I didn't mention that it might RAIN!!! Well pray that it ends early and we get the ride in because I CAN"T move it to Sunday. We will be rolling out at 8 as we prepare for a long day. As always check here often for any changes. Will post a no-go by 6 am.
Getting even closer! today we go for 65-70 miles..I am posting 65 but we should be prepared to do 70 ..the century is 3 weeks from now and we need to get to 80 plus miles the week before the century.
Multiple stops today. Please come prepared..Wheels on the ground at 8:00 unless we need to start earlier which I will update the post the day before the ride.
This week we'll extend the mileage to 74 miles by visiting Briermere Farms. Hopefully we'll outrun the Easter Bunny, so that there still will be some of the Briermere treats left.
Pace will be an honest B+, so that we can complete the ride. As per the Easter Bunny: Hijackers will be egged.
This ride will consist of two separate loops - the first to Westhampton Beach (25 miles) and the second to Calverton (20 miles)- both beginning and ending at Manorville KK. Riders can choose to do either one or both loops. Leader(s) will maintain a 13-15 mph level ground cruising speed. No one will be dropped.
Posted this to provide another B level ride for this weekend. Easy B pace out to Manorville via Woodside, Horseblock, Victory, Weeks, North and rest at McD's around mile 18. Similar route for the return.
Refreshments / Coffee stop at Jamesport Duffys Deli, brief stop/reassembly as needed at IPBP and other key locations. [/][/b]
Looking for a good base level A (but up to A+, AA at times) pace. No one getting dropped.
In general I want to see this smooth super efficient team effort to optimize time!!! Smooth but fast in general. Little playing allowed at the few dedicated hilly sections (you will find out). Reassembly after that -- always, no worries.
** Come for a training ride -- "as fast as you are working with me" **
I classified it back down to A all-over -- but we will go some sections at A+..AA pace for sure (if you go and work with me) -- A and good B+ riders are always welcome, may form a trailing group, if any? -- learn how to work as a team!! -- we will have some wait ups (on top of the 1st lil hill if needed) but we will not wait on every turn -- as I also classified it as TEAM, what means exactly this -- stay all together as much as possible and help each other for most efficiency and best pace w/o dropping any one -- regardless, unless on riders request or extreme mismatch.... -- you better be able sit in easy at 19..21mph and try to handle a few faster sections (slow down afterwards for reassembly) -- have fun!
Rocky Point 2 Iron Peer Beach Park for quick snack watching the sound and reassembly, Coffee/Refreshments now in Jamesport Duffys Deli. Watch for weather related updates or delays -- will post any change or cancellations by very latest start time -1 hour at the day of ride, if unsure, contact me. Let's Go Flying. Starts promptly as indicated on top at Tildas Bake Shop, typical moving time 2h45..3h depending on you. Starts out with some rollers on North Country Rd to warm up, will go fast, but will do the best to reassemble group after 1st climb(s) and as needed, group stays together as a Team AND SHARES THE WIND if any and has fun like few flying birds! Read here for past ride logs, stories, photos and details: http://pyzahl.blogspot.com/search?q=RP2IPBP
However, this is a team style training ride, lean and execute team play, work together not to show off -- with exception of a few designated sections to play... with following regrouping.
Mostly the same route as last week, with an extra 5 mile loop added before the rest stop. Rest/snack stop at Briermere around mile 25. Pace will be in the middle of the B- range ( around 14.0 ), depending as usual at this time of the year on wind speed and direction. Cancellation for any reason will be posted no later than 7:00AM on Saturday.
It’s off to Manorville today. The route is 35 miles, if I make any changes it will only add about 1 mile. The average pace for the ride will be between 13.9 to 14.4 mph. naturally, the road speed will be slightly higher to produce the average.
DON'T LET YOUR LEGS TURN TO RUBBER
If you don't ride with me your legs will turn to rubber.
If your legs turn to rubber, you get lazy.
If you get lazy, you don't want to get out of bed.
If you don't get out of bed you need someone to feed you.
If you have someone feed you, they will rob you blind.
Don't get robbed blind, come out and ride with us!
Nice flat ride at an 11-12MPH pace. Deli stop 1/2 way to get a snack to eat at the dock. NO ONE GETS LEFT BEHIND. New comers will be handled with care. Any cancellation by 9AM. Like H&R Block says: "Come on America, get your legs back"!
Percy's afternoon ride when its warmer!
This is a B+/A ride, we will have some wait ups (on top of the 1st hill, the park and if needed at the "end" of Mill. We will stay and work together at a good pace w/o dropping any one and sharing the wind.
Continuing the B+ training but if turnout is small we might do a shorter route as it is Easter Sunday.
Decide at the ride start. We will be visiting Area 51 either way...
Easter, Start Time 9AM in case you have to be somewhere. How about taking a ride to Great River today? We will go the usual route through Connetquot Park and then do a loop in Heckscher Park where one can stretch the legs a bit. The route is mostly flat with 2 little hills. The average pace for this ride will be between 13.9. & 14.4 mph, naturally the road speed will be slightly higher to produce the average. We will be making a food/rest stop somewhere between miles 15 and 20. No one will be dropped. Always check the ride calendar for any weather, or last minute cancellations which will be posted no later than 7:30AM if necessary. My cell number is 631.484.3490; call anytime if you have questions or need directions to the start. There will be a venting and communication session after the ride. :)
Let's up the mileage a little and start a little earlier. We'll head out to Manorville via Woodside, Horseblock, Victory, Weeks, North, and break at 20 , miles at McD's. Return route is similar.
Solid B pace with some B+ when the going is easy and flat.
Pace line riding with a one to two minute pull if you feel up to it. No one has to pull if they don't want to.
Join Linda Kirk and me for a leisurely ride from Coram to Middle Island and to Miller Place for a bagel stop. Leader(s) will maintain a a 10-12 mph level ground pace. No one will be dropped.
Mainly flat with a couple of steep short hills. Regroup after hills and as required. No one will be left behind.
Plan to average 17-18mph. Possibly reverse direction depending on sun or clouds. www.ridewithgps.com/routes/4341209
My cell -- day of event only -- is 631-835-1454
By popular demand, my vote put us over, we're back to the usual Tuesday evening ride.
Ride is 26 miles. With sunset at 7:39pm bright colored clothing and bicycle lighting, front and back, are highly recommended.
This is a hilly and structured ride through Stony Brook, Old Field and Setauket.
Narrow roads require single file riding along most of the route. The ride allows a few locations to break-away from the group, as instructed by the ride leader, otherwise the group will stay together.
LET'S TRY AGAIN THIS WEEK!
Repeat of our last GREAT ride with maybe a couple of extra miles as daylight is getting longer. Be there or be Square! No one left behind. Any cancellation by 4:30PM. Janet/Irene, where are you?
UPDATE - TUESDAY - 2:45PM - THE LATEST FORECAST HAS THE RAIN HOLDING OFF UNTIL AT LEAST 7PM, WHICH SHOULD GIVE US ENOUGH TIME TO GET THE RIDE IN. I WILL BE AT THE RIDE START AND MAKE A FINAL "GO/NO GO" DECISION AT THAT TIME.
Ride through East Islip and Islip with a short rest stop at Islip Beach. Pace will be on the low end of the B- range. Cancellation for any reason will be posted no later than 3:30PM on Tuesday. If cancelled, the ride may be rescheduled for Wednesday.
See the surf; catch some rays. Easy pace to Smith's Point Beach 14 to15 mph average pace. No one will be dropped. Stop at 7-11 on William Floyd for snacks and bring them to the beach where we'll stop for a break.
Cell: (631) 879-5365 for more details.
**UPDATE – 4/23/2014 – 7:40AM CHANGED, Due to high winds and gusts the mileage has been reduced to 15 and the ride has been changed to one of the AM coffee rides**
Please check the ride calendar for any weather, or last minute cancellations which will be posted no later than 8:00AM if necessary. My cell phone number is 631-484-3490; call anytime if you have questions or need directions to the start.
Meet Manovlille Kig Kullen, LIE exit 70 1/2 mile south. Easy pace will be at the lower range for this level, no one left behind. Bring money for rest stop. Please get there early.

Season Premier - AnotherSeason, AnotherReason to get back with your buddies for fun-filled Wednesday evenings of riding and dinner. Join our scenic backroads rides thru the Smithtown-Stonybrook area: historic places, great views, great sunsets, great folks. We are a diverse group out for an enjoyable ride and attempts at our personal best (or not). 1st Wed of each month, rides leave from Smithtown to make the Deeepwells concert and easy option.
Due to the high winds and expected 25-30 mph gusts, I'm canceling the ride.
Hopefully, we will be riding Sunday.
Come ride with Bruce as we extend our loop out to the Tank Farms...hint ..hills added..before AND after.
Depending on the wind speed and how well I am able to breathe, I may shorten and/or change the ride.
Wait ups will always be done so we don't lose anybody, especially the sweep OR the ever so important (NOT), ride leader.
Just think, we will be riding this original new route again on Sunday. OY VEY ;)
Bring $$$ for snacks/lunch/cab fare.
Hope to see you there.
Due to projected high winds for Thursday, I am changing the route/destination from the Beach Bakery to the Bean and Bagel. Distance will be 16 miles and will be at the lower end of c+/b- due to the wind. No one will be dropped. If the weather report for tomorrow increases the wind speed forecast, I will push the ride off to Friday. I will post any changes by 8:00 AM. We will leave from the King Kullen parking lot. Take LIE exit 70, go south, appx. one half mile, and park behind McDonalds. We will break midway at the Beach or Hampton Coffee. Please be on time, the group will leave at 9:30 sharp. Average speed will be about 13mph. Any changes will be posted by 8:00 on day of ride. Cell number for day of ride is 631-356-3036.

Last minute ramble . Going out to do a slow ride through the three village
area. Have ridden the past 2 days so this Will be a B ride. Conditions are nice out right now with the wind expected to pu in the afternoon. Will ride in sheltered areas. Plz park by the black tennis fence.
If running a tad late call 631 626 3900 .
The average pace for the ride will be around 14.5 mph. Cruising speed at times will be higher to produce the average. The ride's average for me is determined by wind speed and the ability of those that show up. There will be a short rest stop around mile 7. No one will be dropped. The April executive board meeting will be held at Panera bread in Bohemia at 7pm on April 24th.
All members are welcome to attend and participate in discussions. All votes on club matters are by board members only.
If a member has business to bring before the board it is requested that they contact either Jeff Meyer of Bob DeVito prior so the board can be prepared for discussion.
Sorry! Just about everything of this ride has changed. Due to a more important commitment, I have to be in Port Jeff area before lunch time. I'll be doing my Pumping Iron ride which is a lot shorter but maybe just as much work. The ride level is a B/B+ due to the effort involved but not the average speed. As this is the first time I've done it this year I'll be glad to finish near 15 mph. Here's a link to the Pumping Iron cue sheet: http://www.sbraweb.org/sites/default/files/MtSinai-Pumping-Iron-30mi.pdf
I really could have used the miles before the century and if you really want to do the ride down to Sayville, to connect up to Christine's ride, then let me know and I will provide you with a link to a map.
Hopefully sometime next week I'll do the ride described below ...
We'll head down to the Sayville RR station and try to hook up with Christine's T.G.I.F. ride to Babylon. As usual, check back to this posting on the morning of the ride for any changes.
Sorry guys but I think the roads are going to be wet in the morning and I am battling a leg/knee issue that will keep me from riding this weekend. You might not find the same mileage but you may find other B- rides - I think Joe Matzelle might be moving his ride to Sunday so please make sure you get some type of mileage in. We will continue training next week but the miles will be less, about 50. Have a good weekend. :(
We are so super close. This ride will be between 75 and 80 miles and for the most part it is FLAT!!!! Meeting location is the second parking lot that is south of the railroad station. NOT the parking lot at the station. We will be heading west to Babylon Docks, back to Heckscher Park with a loop around the park, out to Bellport then to Southaven Park with a return back to Sayville. There will be plenty of rest stops along the way but load up with goodies to keep you moving. We've been coming in about 14.3 - 14.5 on past rides so this should be no different. Pray for good weather and a fantastic ride. As it will be a long ride we need an earlier start so we will be rolling out at 7:45. Come early and ready to go!
They are calling for rain overnight and into tomorrow morning. I may delay the start till later and cut the milage. I will post by 7:30AM.
This will be the last B/B+ training ride before the century. I plan on riding next week however I will not be doing a long ride. The milage will be cut down to about 35 to 40. I just checked the weather and it is not supposed to be too windy (at least not at this point). Bring food. We will make stops along the way but the only stop that I know of that you can get food is Manorville. I will look for other good places for a quick stop along the way.
If it is windy (wonder why I would think that is a possibility) we will shorten the distance.
We'll take a break at Bean & Bagel after about 25 miles.
The overall speed of these Saturday rides has been creeping upwards with each passing week. I would expect that this route with all the long stretches of flat roads (and hopefully some favorable winds) will have a lot of 20-22 mph cruising with a final average around 18mph.
6:55 AM Sat 4/26- Not a road day. Have to settle for gym & laundry. Rescheduled for Sat 5/3. 6:35 pm 4/25/15- weather forecast is iffy (My weather butt says lots 'o rain.). Will update no later than 8 am Sat if ride is a go or not. Will not go if roads wet or too windy (that's no FUN!) Enjoy the North fork. Honest B. Dishonest riders take a cue sheet. ONE QUICK stop planned 1/2 way. Pee or Goo stops as needed.
SORRY GANG. FORECAST FOR RIDE START AND BEYOND IS 16-30MPH WINDS WITH 30-40% CHANCE OF RAIN. ALSO, IS SUPPOSED TO RAIN FROM FRI. NIGHT TO SAT. AM MAKING WET AND SLIPPERY ROADS. KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR A NEW POSTING FOR NEXT WEEKEND.
Park at the corner of McDermott Ave and the waterfront parking lot. Nice ride through farm country with a potty stop at Briemere, then on to see the Buffalo. Coffee/lunch break at the Bean and Bagel then watch the F-14 fly overhead and through Area 51 and back to the parking area. NO ONE LEFT BEHIND. Any cancellation by 9AM. Wheels down promptly at 10:04AM.
**UPDATE - 11:25AM - The rain has stopped. I'm moving the start time to 1:30PM. The roads will be a little drier by then. This will be the last change***
****UPDATE – 4/26/2014 – 7:40AM – The ride has been CHANGED and DELAYED. The start time is now 1:30PM. I will probably do the Ronkonkoma AM Coffee ride adding 5 miles making the route total 20 miles; this will depend on the road conditions and wind direction at the start. We still leave from the Holbrook Country Club.****
The average pace for the ride will be between 13.9 and 14.4 mph. naturally the road speed will be slightly higher to produce the average. There will be a bathroom/food stop along the way. My cell number is 631.484.3490; call anytime if you have questions or need directions to the start. Any additional changes will be posted by 11:45AM
**This ride is moved to Sunday 4/27 due to rain and wet roads...Ride leaves at 8AM
8:00 pm 4/25 and rain for tonight into tomorrow am still forecasted . I will do another post in the morning in case something changes. Otherwise we will do this ride SUNDAY STARTING AT 8:00AM .
This is the 70 mile test! Century is 2 weeks from now. We will have multiple stops for refueling today. At this point if you have not been doing any training rides this is not the ride for you. Please come on time and be respectful of the other people on the ride. check for updates . If the weather is bad the ride will be moved to tomorrow.
Note: Changing start time to 8:00 am from 7:30 am to let it warm up and dry out a bit more.
This ride will be based on my usual North Fork route, leaving from Manorville through Riverhead, Jamesport, and Mattituck, but today we'll continue out to Greenport for lunch on the village green before returning through Southold, Cutchogue, and New Suffolk.
The overall ride average will be around 14.5 mph, and the approximate distance is 75 miles.
Please remember to bring snacks, as the lunch stop will be at the halfway mark in Greenport.
Carousel rides are optional, and that mileage doesn't count. If you do take a ride remember that the horses on the outside go faster!
We'll do the ride on Sunday, when we have the best chance to do the *entire* ride. See you, then!
**********************************************************************************
This week Century Training Ride (CTR), takes us on a loop that includes Area 51, Briermere and that tank farm.
Come ride with Bruce as we extend our loop out to the Tank Farms...hint ..hills added..before AND after.
Wait ups will always be done so we don't lose anybody, especially the sweep OR the ever so important (NOT), ride leader.
Bring $$$ for snacks/lunch/cab fare.
Hope to see you there.
We will do two 25 mile loops - the first to Wildwood S.P. and the second to Westhampton Beach - both beginning and ending at Manorville. Riders can opt to do either one or two loops. Non-century riders are welcome. Leader(s) will maintain a 13-15 mph level ground cruising speed. No one will be dropped
UPDATE - FRIDAY 1PM - THE CURRENT FORECAST IS CALLING FOR RAIN OVERNIGHT UNTIL ABOUT 9AM TO 10AM SATURDAY. WITH THE LONGER MILEAGE I DON'T WANT TO START LATER IN THE DAY AND EVEN IF THE RAIN STOPS SOONER I'D RATHER NOT BE RIDING ON WET ROADS. I AM POSTPONING THE RIDE TO SUNDAY AT 9AM. I HOPE THIS EARLY DECISION GIVES EVERYONE A CHANCE TO PLAN THEIR WEEKEND RIDING ACCORDINGLY RATHER THAN HAVING TO WAIT UNTIL EARLY TOMORROW MORNING TO SEE WHETHER THE RIDE IS A "GO/NO GO". HOPEFULLY IT WON'T BE AS WINDY ON SUNDAY AS IT HAS BEEN.
This ride will consist of two 25-mile loops. The first loop will go out to Manorville, with a food/rest stop at McD's around mile 19. On the way back we will pass by the Eastport ride start if anyone needs to drop off any jackets, gloves, etc. The second loop will head out east to Westhampton Beach and Quogue, with a snack/rest stop at the Beach Bakery. Pace should be in the middle of the B- range ( 14.0 ). There is a chance I may have to move the ride to Sunday so be sure to check the Ride Calendar later in the week for any updates.
This is not an actual ride posting. It is being put on the calendar in order to post rider mileage for those who only completed one of the two loops of Dick Cunningham's metric century ride.
How about taking a ride to Great River today? We will go the usual route through Connetquot Park and then do a loop in Heckscher Park where one can stretch the legs a bit. The route is mostly flat with 2 little hills. The average pace for this ride will be between 13.9. & 14.5 mph, naturally the road speed will be slightly higher to produce the average. We will be making a food/rest stop somewhere between miles 15 and 20. No one will be dropped. Always check the ride calendar for any weather, or last minute cancellations which will be posted no later than 8:00AM if necessary. My cell number is 631.484.3490; call anytime if you have questions or need directions to the start.
Build up some strength on a scenic, hilly ride through Setauket, Old Field and West Meadow. Bring a snack for a brief rest stop at the beach. This will be a moderate B pace, coming in with an ending speed of @ 14 for my own and other riders comfort on those hills (slower speeds on the climbs and wait ups, of course!). Please arrive in time to be ready to roll by 9:30am. Park at the end of the lot out from Carnival/Harmon. Location note: This ride is from Port Jeff Station...NOT Stony Brook Home Goods. Day of: (631) 804-5902 Please check back here by 8am for any changes or cancellations.
SORRY TO DO THIS BUT CANCELLING DUE TO THE FACT THAT I'M NOT FEELING WELL, BESIDES IT'S ONLY GOING TO BE 50° WITH WINDS OF 15MPH FROM THE NW - IT DOESN'T LOOK LIKE IT WOULD BE A FUN RIDE.
Park at the EXTREME North East lot for wheels down at 10:04AM. Coffee/lunch break halfway at the Golf Course. NO ONE LEFT BEHIND. Any cancellation by 9AM. Irene/Janet where are you?
Saturday's roads are quite wet and rain not stopping much, so moving ride to Sunday. Cannot leave for ride before time scheduled.
Century training, Lindenhurst Post Office to Stony Brook. Mileage approximate and may vary depending on route selected.
For those who ride my Commack to PJ and SB rides, this is a version with some flat sections added with plenty of rolling hills and a mostly flat return. Additional hills on request(LOL).

No go in rain.

Late Sunday morning ride from Manorville King Kullen loop through Grumman with a stop at Bean and Bagel. Ride will come in at C+ pace if windy and closer to B- if the wind is calm. Helmets a must and water bottles the fit snug in your bike cage. No Poland spring type bottles. No one left behind.
If anyone is interested in a later ride, we are back on for a delayed start after the turkey hunt which ends at noon. Will meet in parking lot before 12 to be ready to hit the trails at 12. Rocky Point Trails are so fabulous, didn't want to give up a chance to ride them while the weather is cool.
Turkey hunt is from dawn until 12 so we should be safe getting on the trails at noon by which time they should be roasting their turnkeys. Actually, i hope all the turkeys manage to stay hidden and we won't see any blood.
We will meet at the parking lot on Rocky Pt Road just north of Whiskey. If lot is full park on side street (Creek?) off Whiskey just east of RP Rd & pedal over. I think we can accommodate some various speeds & levels in mid-range of novice to intermediate. We will discuss plan in parking lot so everyone is accounted for. We can either start with West Loop Trail and then complete main course with those wishing to do diamonds doing so. If majority wants to skip west loop we will do main trail and after completion some can go back in to do west loop. Minimum miles should be about 12 with maximum up to about 19 or 20 so i put average in the mileage category. We will do wait ups as needed. Bring camelbacks and snacks. Rock & Roll at 10 am.
A nice easy side road meander; good for beginners or people just dusting the cobwebs off the bike! Ride might end up being a few more miles but not over 18 and will depend on the group. Park behind Wendy's off Old Neck Road. Cell phone 516-330-1542. Make sure to have water, a snack and a spare tube. No formal rest stop.

We are upping the speed, doing B- on the flats and whatever we can on the hills. Expect to come in at 13-14 mph average.

FORECAST LOOKS LIKE A REPEAT OF LAST WEEK WHEN WE GOT WET AND COLD.
LET'S LOOK FORWARD TO CLEAR SKIES AND WARMER TEMPERATURES.
For this ride, we'll be adding some miles and some hills as we venture into Crane's Neck.
With sunset at 7:46pm bright colored clothing and bicycle lighting, front and back, are highly recommended.
This is a hilly and structured ride through Stony Brook, Old Field, Setauket and Poquott.
Narrow roads require single file riding along most of the route. The ride allows a few locations to break-away from the group, as instructed by the ride leader, otherwise the group will stay together.
Please note: I am posting the ride for the usual Tuesday date and time. However, due to some possible scheduling conflicts next week there is a chance that I will either have to move the ride up to Monday or move it back to Wednesday. Be sure to check the Ride Calendar on Monday to see whether or not the day has been changed.
