"Make the Point" to End Childhood cancer.....The Ride

    Hi Fellow SBRAers

If you didn't see my article in the April Rolling wheels tsk tsk :)  Anyway, I am once again leading a team on an 80 mile adventure from Shirley to Montauk point to raise awareness (and funds) for childhood cancer in support of the St Baldrick's Foundation. Childhood cancer is the leading cause of death in children by disease. St Baldrick's is the #1 funding organization for childhood cancer reasearch worldwide, AND it was founded right here on Long Island (just 22 years ago). You may not realize how underfunded childhood cancer is; only 4 cents of every federal dollar spent at the NIH goes to childrens cancers, only 1/2 cent of every dollar donated to the American Cancer Society goes to childhood cancer. All St Baldricks funding grants are specifically for Childhood cancer, more the $330 Million since 2005.

St Baldricks funded researchers have been involved with every new treatment breakthrough for childhood cancer in recent history, they also advocated for passage of the STAR act and support fellowships for the next generation of pediatric oncologists. In fact Dr Laura Hogan, head of Ped's oncology at Stony Brook Childrens Hospital, was a St Baldricks fellow (she was a resident when my daughter was in treatment).

Our Ride will take place May 13th (Weather Permitting), we are 7 strong (2 SBRA members), but there's room for more (see below for more info). Our ride represents the difficult journey children must travel when undergoing cancer treatment. Our Goal is to raise much needed funding for St Baldrick's through donations from friends, family and folks with big hearts that would like to make a difference for children facing cancer treatment. MORE INFO
Our event is a ride to Montauk on May 13th. If you'd like to join us we leave from my house in Shirley, take a leisurely ride to Montauk, then take the LIRR home. This is also a great training ride for the upcoming century. If  you'd like to join just go to the event page and click "Join Us"  at this link: https://www.stbaldricks.org/events/mypage/14083/2023

    ALTERNATIVELY!
YOU can create your own ride!  Just assemble your own team, choose a date, and create a route you'd like to ride. Then just go to the Event page (at the link above) and sign up. Once you've done so you can create your own team name for your ride. The event page is titled "Bike Across America" because the initial idea was to get cyclists from all across the country to create rides in their own hometowns. So here's your chance to create your own epic ride, and use your cycling skills to support childhood cancer research.

    THE BOTTOM LINE

This is all about Fundraising for childhood cancer in support of the St Baldrick's foundation. We welcome all cyclists who'd like to participate whether riding the Montauk ride or creating their own ride. We also greatly apprecate any and all donations (and fundraising) in support of this great cause.

If you have any questions or would like additional info you can reach me by email at or text/call 631-948-0545. I'm at your service!

    Thanks Again!
