We are back at Southaven today for our ride start. I just looked and it looks like some rain around 12 ish so i don't know the exact miles yet. Hopefully the forecast will change. Text if you are coming. Thanks!
Ride starts at Sayville RR station and goes to Bellport Dock. This is a C+/B- ride, cruising at 14 to 16 mph to get an average of 13 to 14 mph. Any changes will be posted at least 90 minutes before the ride.
The other BBB (Bike, Boat, Brooklyn) returns. We meet at the east end of the Long Beach Boardwalk at Neptune Blvd. This route will go Long Beach Boardwalk (BW), Atlantic Beach (BW), Far Rockaway (BW)... then we'll board a 10:15am NYC Ferry from 108th Street in Far Rockaway and disembark in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. From there we ride back along the Belt Parkway Bike Path, under the Verrazano Bridge, then onto some city streets to Nathan's in Coney Island for the official pitstop. From there... the ride continues back through Coney Island, Sheepshead Bay, Belt Parkway Bike Path, over the Marine Bridge, the Far Rockaway Boardwalk from beginning to end, Atlantic Beach Bridge to Long Beach Boardwalk and done.
Although posted as a B+, this will be a somewhat casual ride. The moving pace will be in the 16-18 mph range... which will be off-set substantially by much slower riding on boardwalks and some city streets. The "hills" are mostly bridges (which can be challenging for people who don't like heights), but most of the route is dead flat.
The NYC Ferry has an 8-10 bike limit. If we have too many bikes to fit on the ferry… then we ride straight to Nathan’s and return via Howard Beach back to the Rockaways. That route would be more like 50 miles of riding. Here's the link to that route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/25421733 YOU MUST... download the NYC Ferry app and have it set-up with your credit card info ready to go. Timing might be tight to reach the ferry by 10:15am. Let's not have any unnecessary futzing around while you try and set up the app. The ferry ride is $4.00 including the bike. I have no set time frame for how long the ride will take, but we should be back in Long Beach by 3-3:30pm. Obviously, this is a no drop ride and wait-ups (if necessary) will be no problem. Just bring your best bike handling skills and don't get freaked out by some riding on busy city streets. There are restroom options all along the way.
Bring plenty of snacks, gels, and water. I would also strongly recommend bringing one "meal" to eat on the ferry. It'll be the perfect time to eat something substantial to hold you over until Nathan's. Questions? Concerns? Feel free to text me.... RSVP: Please text me in advance if you plan to come. Include your name and SBRA Member ID and I'll sign you in.
The threat of wet weather will make me cancel this ride and reschedule. Just for your info... I plan on posting other NYC rides most Sundays through to mid-October. I'm just now working on finalizing all the other city-ride routes.
Going to Great River. I would like to come in between 14.8 and 14.9 mph +/- a tad. In order to get this average we will be doing road speeds between 15.0 and 17.0 mph. We will be leaving Bank of America and head to Great River and East Islip for a 21 mile ride. The ride will be at a B- pace with an average speed of around 14.5 to 15 mph and road speeds that will reach 16 to 18 mph.
If you have any questions call or text Mike at 516 448-8545.
This ride has morphed into the Wings Cafe ride. Come join us as we make our way around Manorville and Calverton, on mostly quiet paths and roads. All and all, a neat 36 or so miles with some nice stretches of riding and the now special stop at the airport where we may see small planes or skydivers, but where we will now stop for a bite at Wings Cafe.
Please bring any snacks you may wantas well as sufficient hydration. Most importantly bring an upbeat inquisitive attitude ready to explore and discover.
To join the ride or if you have questions, please text Bill Mastro at 917-921-5358. I usually send the final ride file to those that text me. Any updates or weather issues will be posted to the ride listing by 7:00 on the day of the ride.
Same Kreb Friday concept, but a different route to avoid strong headwinds down Dune Road. We will reverse the route to have a tailwind on Dune Road instead (with some other small modifications too). Here is the route, check it out: https://www.strava.com/routes/3130973463547094234
We will be going down to Nettie's for some coffee and/or snacks, than head back to our cars. Riders who wish to drive over to the restaurant (you pay for your own food and drinks) must tell me before the ride starts so the restaurant can make the appropriate reservations for us. I have been to the Sound Bistro several times with this ride/restaurant kind of combo, and the food and company has always been great. The Sound Bistro has a great outdoor eating area, as well as an indoor eating option, and a bar. To join this ride, text Bill G. at 631-356-3036 with your full name and date of ride. Check the ride calendar the day of the ride for changes, which would be posted by 07:00am. Note: You can just come for the Nettie's ride, the restaurant part is optional.
CHANGE:ride start is now from Calverton, instead of the waterfront - less congestion and easy to get to the Sound Bistro.
Weather was iffy last month, so we are trying for another day!
This is a mulit-level ride and you may pick the ride leader/distance/pace you want to do.
My ride is a C+ ride, which will average 12.5-12.9. We will be riding out to Mattituck, where we will take a break at the Deli on Love Lane. Our return will take us through Jamesport, then up around Riverhead, and then possibly ride past the Buffalo on our way back to the ride start. As the exact route will be determined on the day of the ride, there will not be a cue sheet.
The number of riders is limited, so if you want to ride with me, you must text me (631-523-2129) with your SBRA Member Number and Emergency Contact phone number. I will respond to your text and let you know if you have a spot on the ride. Once the ride is filled, I will change to post to indicate that.
If you wish to join us, some of us are going to the Sound Bistro (formerly the Lobster Roll North) on Sound Avenue for lunch following the ride (you pay for your own food and drink). By the start of the ride we need to know how many people are planning to go to the restaurant, so they can set aside enough seating space.
Check the ride calendar the day of the ride for any changes, which would be posted by 7:15 am.
My only change is a head's up: I've only ridden once in the last 4 weeks so I'll definitely be on the low end of the pace (plus add the wind!) and may not make all 20 miles. If I'm too slow for you, join Jeff's ride :)
I'm not quite sure of route yet but it'll be around 20, maybe a few more. Easy C pace. Join for the ride only or join us for lunch after or do both! Text me with any questions.
WIND @ 17 mph too much for 45 miles (for me). Will try next week
Five more miles this week and hopefully the temps will be cooler.
It's a 45 mile, mid B ride from Southaven Park to West Hampton. There will be the usual gulp and goes and possible quick stop at McD's for those that need a bathroom stop (a brief one). We will take a longer break in Westhampton before returning to the ride start.
This ride will start from the Riverhead Waterfront and go north on some roads we don't normally ride. There will be some backtracking and many turns so please download the route or at least look at it. More of a social ride than a hammerfest thus the A- rating. One very steep but short hill at the end of Roanoke which can be skipped (no judgement zone) if you wish. After the ride we will drive to the Sound Bistro on Sound Avenue for lunch to join other riders from SBRA. The lunch is optional but in previous years we had a great time. Hope to see you there, 9am start.
I am posting this ride to see if there is any interest. You MUST contact me if you are interested in doing this ride (347-922-3824). If there is no interest, I may cancel or modify the ride.
The plan is to bike to Montauk from the Blue Point Brewery in Patchogue one-way and take the LIRR back home. Trains depart Montauk at 3:16pm and 5:19pm. There is also a 7:42pm for anyone interested in having dinner in Montauk (lights are required if taking this train because LIRR station is about 1/2 mile from BPB parking lot and it will be dark out).
I suggest riders bring two water bottles, some energy snacks for the ride and extra $$ for rest stops/lunch/train fare). We will make hydration/rest stops approximately every 20-25 miles. Depending on when we arrive in Montauk (and what shape we're in when we get there - lol) we can discuss options. Extend ride out to lighthouse and make it a Century, sit-down lunch in town, grab deli sandwich and eat on train, etc.
Pls note that the LIRR has the right to limit the number of bikes they allow on each train (there are NO guarantees); however, I’ve done this ride many times and never had a problem.
It is our familiar north route with one extra hill. Instead of taking Randall up as the first hill, we will do Jacob's ladder, loop around, then do Randall. Should be fun.
Super Saturday 72 mile ride from Yaphank Firehouse. This will be a ride to build endurance for Tour Of The Hamptons ride in October. North ride that will include 3 Hills. New time is 8am! We will take short breaks at around mile 25 and 50.
This will be an easy C+ ride around Center Moriches, that will average 12 - 12.6, and will be taking our break at Nettie's. There are some very nice water views along the way. No one gets dropped and we will be observing spacing rules, etc. Since the exact route will be determined as we go along, there will not be a cue sheet.
The number of riders is limited, so if you want to ride you must text me (631-523-2129) with your SBRA Member Number and Emergency Contact phone number. I will respond to your text and let you know if you have a spot on the ride. Once the ride is filled, I will change to post to indicate that.
Riders should arrive at least 15 minutes before the ride start, to allow enough time for me to get everyone signed in and to "get yourself" ready.
Route and distance have been changed due to the predicted winds from Good old Hurricane Lee. I think the run out to Cutchogue would have been just too windy on the return leg!
SO, let's meet at the parking lot across from the Maples Bar for a controlled paceline ride. The revised route will take us in and around the Pine Barrens; keeping us mostly out of the wind. But hold onto your hats for the great downwind runs! Plan on a ride without any stops except for wait-ups.
The route will include a run down Grumman Blvd. , and up Connecticut and Mill Road. Later we'll see Hot Water Street and ride up South St. and back through the Pine Barrens to the finish. IF conditions are too windy, there are plenty of bail-out points to shorten the route and get back to the start.
We will be leaving the Senoir Center and head to North Fork for a 58 mile ride + maybe a few more. Final route to be determined. Our food/restroom break will be in Mattituck. Please bring snacks & drinks for this ride for short breaks before and after our food stop.
The ride will be at a (B- pace) with an average speed of around 14.5 to 15 mphand road speeds that will reach 16 to 19 mph.
Please Note: Our road speed/average will depend on rider ability and wind conditions.
If you have any questions text or call Mike 516 448-8545.
Come join me for a scenic visit to Shelter Island, we'll take the North and South ferry so bring some dollars for that and rest stop snacks. Route posted below, hope you can join. NOTE: EACH FERRY IS $4. THEY WOULD LIKE EXACT CHANGE OR AT LEAST "SMALL BILLS".
Going to Great River. I would like to come in between 14.8 and 14.9 mph +/- a tad. In order to get this average we will be doing road speeds between 15.0 and 17.0 mph. Expect down hills and wind at your back to be faster. We will take a break at the bagel shop about mile 14. Things could change slightly due to road conditions and wind direction.Pulling is always appreciated. There will be GOOD STUFF after the ride
If you have any questions, or concerns please text me at 631.484.3490. Should there be a cancelation or change it will be posted by 7:15am.
Roosevelt Island Astoria Park RFK Bridge Randall-Ward’s Island 1/2 loop in Central Park Hudson River Bike Path Brooklyn Bridge Brooklyn Piers Manhattan Bridge Williamsburg Bridge Pulaski Bridge Gantry State Park
The route is about 35 miles with about 900 ft of elevation. A 35 mile city ride with stops for sightseeing and photos can be a longer day than you might expect. I hope to be back at the cars by 3pm. Here's a link to the route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/44311649
Bring snacks and gels. Bagel Shop stop at around Mile 23.
Obviously… not your typical "club ride". I'm very selective about the roads/paths I choose. Many will have a designated bike lane. A few will not. If you have a fear of heights, the RFK Bridge could be a real challenge. You can walk. We'll wait. The other bridges are much less concerning. You will need to carry your bike up and down a few stairs here and there.
This is a B+ ride ... not so much for the speed, but for the hills (+ bridges) and general confident bike handling skills required to navigate a variety of advanced cycling situations. This is also an RSVP ride. Contact me (text) in advance if you plan to come. Provide me with your SBRA Member # and I'll sign you in. The ride will be a "go" even if only one other rider is interested.
Please note the new ride-start location for this year. If you need an address for your GPS, then use 42-25 Vernon Blvd, Queens, NY 11101
I'll subbling for Howard. Today's route to Great River. We will go the usual route. Rest stop are approximately half way. Max cruising 17 to 19 mph and come in at an average 16
This 18-24 mile ride will now be on the SOUTH SIDE of the Ronk train station near the Western end of the parking lot closest to Railroad Ave. Bring a snack and hydration. Route depends on riders ability, wind, position of moon and ride leaders disposition. As always newbies always well taken care of and no one gets dropped. Wheels down at posted time as "Daylights A Burnin" so get there 15 minutes before. Any cancellation will be by 8:00am. No need to text me, just "show n go".
Coming from LIE take Ronkonkoma Ave. South, just over RR bridge make 3 right turns, parking is on right, corner of Railroad AVe and Ronkonkoma Ave.
Coming from Lakeland Ave. Sunrise Hwy., go North just pass Vets Hwy make right on Smithtown Ave (following alongside of airport), just before bridge make right on Railroad Ave, parking is on left side (go past one way entrance and make 1st available left into lot).
A scenic ride out to Cutchogue, with numerous water views, as well as views of vineyards and farms. This will be an easy C+ ride, with stops so we can eat our snacks, drink our water and catch our breath so we can complete the ride. There will be a lunch stop in Cutchogue, where you can purchase bagels or seafood (both restaurants are in the same parking lot, outdoor picnic tables are available. This ride includes Nassau Point, which has several hills. The hills end at the water, so if you don't wish to do the hills, you can hang out at the local beach and on the way back from the hilly ride, we will stop and you will rejoin the ride. On our return, we can stop at the Magic Fountain for their fantastic ice cream. There are rest rooms along the way, but none in the lot of the Senior Center. Note: strong winds could result in ride changes or cancellation, so be sure to check the ride calendar the day of the ride for changes, which would be posted by 07:30am. To join this ride, text Bill G. at 631-356-3036 with your full name and date of ride. This is a long ride, so plan your day accordingly.
The usual M.O.M ride. B+/A-. Cruise 19-23 mph. Avg: hopefully 20 mph. Please, no surging. There are two sections which are timed segments where any rider can push the pace to their liking, but after these segments please return to the pack.
Going to Manorville today. A rest/ food stop at McDonald’s or the bagel shop is on the schedule between mile 16 and 20. There are a few places along the route for a break-a-way for those who wish to do so.
The average pace for the ride will be between 14.8 to 14.9 mph +/- depending on the roads, wind direction, rider ability, tailwinds, downhill's, break-a-ways and other conditions. All of these conditions could change the final average one way or the other. Naturally, the road speed will be higher (14.5 to 17.0 mph.) to produce the average.
Any cancellation due to weather or any other circumstance will be posted no later than 0730 if necessary. If you have question about the ride just text me at 631.484.3490. Eventually my phone and I will meet in a reasonable amount of time...

Changes or cancelation will be posted by 1:30pm day of ride.
If you have any questions call or text Mike at 516 448-8545.
Shea's have graciously endowed me with this weeks hill ride. North Country road has been repaved (except for 1 block east of Norman Drive, to help us appreciate the repaved part). This is a group ride but in the hills and Burnham some like to light it up-no worries, we regroup after all hard sections (normal wait-up points). This weeks special is 51 & 111, don't miss it; it's like castor oil, sucks going down but makes you stronger.
