Ride may change depending on wind and road conditions. Strong winds after 12:00 would slow the ride and possibly reduce mileage. Destination could be Bean and Bagel. Ride is on. Off to Nettie's, for their great treats and rolls, and wonderfull outdoor eating areas. We will ride thru Calverton and Manorville on our way to and from Nettie's. Some of the riding might be on the Grumman Trail. To join this ride, text Bill G. at 631-356-3036, with your SBRA, emergency and cell numbers, full name and date of ride. This ride was originally scheduled for 9:30 but has been changed to 10:00. Check the ride calendar the day of the ride for changes, which would be posted by 08:15am.
But, don't worry, we'll be back long before sunset and the night creatures!
The route will include Mill Road and Grumman Boulevard, with wait-ups after the hard sections. We'll do some paceline work, a little climbing and have some fun!
We'll keep the pace in control, so we can save some energy for Saturday's ride.
Plan to arrive a little early as the lot will fill fast this weekend; If the lot is filled when you get there ... drive down to Whiskey Road, head west and park at the small lot at the end of the field or on the north shoulder ... avoid parking in the community on the south side of Whiskey Road.
You need a DEC Access/Parking pass to ride in Rocky. To my knowledge there was not much checking last year but the early part of the season is more likely to be when they check your front windshield for parking.
As usual I'll be the Ride Organizer and not the lead rider depending on who shows. I plan to skip the west side loop. Regardless of your ability you can always hang with me as I'm slower than lots of faster riders. We'll skip some of the Black Diamonds. SBRA insurance requires that Mtn Bike riders MUST sign a Ride Sign In sheet for each Mtn Bike ride.
PLEASE text [631-988-6557]/email me at [nsamuels@ optonline.net] include your name, SBRA #, EMERGENCY # and your cell #. I will fill out the Ride Sign In sheet and you will only have to sign it.
Leaving the South Street School we will ride up through Wading River, hitting Fresh Pond Road, before riding through the old Grumman property on our way to Riverhead via Route 24. After a short break at the McDonald's, it's onward and upward through the Land of the Dimpled Ball. Then it's Pete's request, the Hill in Area 51! After a regroup we'll run down through Area 51 and eventually back to South Street.
So, save some energy for the second half of the ride where the hills come in. And we'll regroup after any difficult sections, so that everyone can ride with the group in the paceline.
park in the south lot of King Kullen for a mostly backroads ride to the Quogue Wildlife Refuge where there are bathrooms. Bring a snack. Anyone is welcome on this ride even if you don't plan to do the Metric Century in June. Please see my forum post about the Metric Century Training. Or text me with any questions.

Today's’ route to Great River will change up a bit towards the end of the ride - if the wind is in our favor; making this route pretty flat except for 2 overpasses. This will be our first ride to Briermere Farms for this year; they just opened. This time we are changing the route, so while any road can take you there, listen to the directions so you don't get off-course. We'll head out through the fields and visit Deep Hole on the way out. The return sees us hitting County Road 105, to Riverhead before we hit Forge Road and Grumman Blvd, on our way home.
Some rolling terrain and some wind should give us a good workout! So lets get some miles in, in preparation for the Orient Century...
Off to Briermere's, with a quick viewing stop at the American Bison farm, hopefully the Bison will be in a field near the road. Briermere's has pies we can split up, as well as individually sized baked goods. Indoor bathrooms are available. Today's’ route to Great River will change up a bit towards the end of the ride - if the wind is in our favor; making this route pretty flat except for 2 overpasses. We will go the usual route heading south using the Connetquot Park bike bath. We’ll work our way down to Heckscher Park, do a loop where one can stretch the legs a bit if desired. Taking turns pulling would be appreciated! I would like to keep the road speed between 15 & 16 mph and come in at an average between 14.2 and 15.0
Please DO NOT PARK in the Meat Farms parking lot. Use the west side of the bank if the east side is full. Thanks!
We’ll be making a rest stop around mile 19 at the deli/bakery. The route back will be determined by the wind direction. If you want to bring stuff for after the ride please do. Weather permitting!
Any cancellation due to weather or any other circumstance will be posted no later than 0745 if necessary. If you have question about the ride just text me at 631.484.3490. Eventually my phone and I will meet in a reasonable amount of time.
The Lake Tour rides adjacent to three lakes in Suffolk county: Lake Panamoka (Ridge), Peconic Lake (Calverton), and Wildwood Lake (Riverhead/Southhampton). The half way point is Wildwood Lake where we will take a brake. There is also a clean port-a-potti there. The ride is classified as a B+/A- so cruising will be around 19-22 (depending on wind and weather) and the average usually comes in at 19 mph. Please respect these parameters for this is a recreational ride, not a training ride or race pace event. Use the link below to see the ride map or to download it. This ride is usually very enjoyable, and mostly surge free. Wait ups are as needed but the final wait-up will be at the stop sign at Halsey Manor, Connecticut, and Mill Rds.
Off to Smithpoint County Park, bring snacks or pick them up at 7-11 on the way to the park. Port-a-potty stops at Wertheim, real bathrooms at the park. To join the ride, text Bill G. at 631-356-3036 with your SBRA, emergency and cell numbers, full name and date of ride. This will be an intermediate ride unless no intermediate rider shows up. Faster riders can ride with Ron ... I will ride at an Intermediate level if there's an Intermediate rider but be behind Ron's ride regardless.

Jeromy's ride without Jeromy! So we'll go a little further but cut some hills out on the return. Our destination is the Tates Bake Shop in Southampton. The route is a little modified so downloading it would be smart. The goal here is to add miles at a moderate pace. Hope you'll come out and ride this one. As always check the posting for weather cancelations before heading out. Route posted below
We continue our training, praying for light winds! Park in the lot closest to Montauk Highway. Our break will be at Briermere's at mile 20. You are welcome on this ride even if not doing the Metric in June. Always check back for any changes which would be posted by 7am.

This time we'll do a Metric Century! It will be Manorville-to-Mattituck (MTM), plus a little extra - Mimsy the kitten would approve. Along the way, there will be Briermere Farms, the Tanks and more of the North Fork. The return takes us to Peconic Bay Boulevard and Riverhead
We'jj have a stop at Briermere and another possible stop in Mattituck or Riverhead.
This is the first time I am posting for the season so this I really don't know what to expect as far what the pace will be like. I am thinking it will be on the lower end of the B/B+ range so anywhere from 16 to 16.5 MPH... Please find a faster ride if your intent is to go beyond that range. We will all stay together on this ride and I expect all to take turns up front. We will be stopping in Manorville for a break. If you are just starting to ride again this is the ride for you!
Do me a favor and text me to let me know you are coming.631-747-3464
Going to Manorville today. A rest/ food stop at McDonald’s or the bagel shop is on the schedule around mile 13. There are a few places along the route for a break-a-way for those who wish to do so. Pulling is always appreciated for those who want, but not required. The route we take to Manorville will depend on the wind direction. This will be a B- ride with the average speed between 14.5 & 15.0.
Any cancellation due to weather or any other circumstance will be posted no later than 0745 if necessary. If you have question about the ride just text me at 631.838. 1458 .
