Although a Road Bike is suggested for Road Bike Type rides it is not required. Hybrid and mountain bikes can be used on these rides as well provided you are comfortable with the pace outline in the Posted Ride. It's going to be hot on Sunday so we ride near the water! There will be a rest stop at the 30-mile mark, in Orient Point. At the end of the ride if anyone wants to join me I will be having brunch on their patio. Yes, they serve beer!!
Ride start changed to 08:15am. Bring at least 2 bottles of water/gatorade, etc. We will make a few more stops for you to hydrate. Don't forget your sunscreen. THIS IS THE RESCHEDULED TRAINING EVENT WHICH WAS POSTPONED LAST SATURDAY (June 23rd).
This ride is part of our “Special Ride Series” (SRS) and is designed to better assist new people who wish to ride with SBRA. This particular event is being run as a 1-Day Session by me, with the assistance of Mike Fiorella, for the “more experienced rider, but new to SBRA and group riding.” This ride will emphasize rider safety, SBRA club rules, basic bike mechanics and a number of things which are very important when riding in a group. If you are either new to group riding or have not been on an SBRA group ride, this is a training event you should take advantage of.
Please arrive on time and make sure you have a working bike, a helmet (required on all club rides), a spare tube (in case you get a flat), and water or a sports drink that fits in a bike cage and will not fall out.
After the discussion portion of the session, we will take a ride, depending on the ability of the riders in attendance. For this event, we will be offering 10-20 miles at a D to C pace (led by me) and 20-25 miles at a C+/B- pace (led by Mike). Lynn Roesel and Dennis Desmond will be helping as Sweeps for these rides.
If you have any questions, please contact me at home at (631) 471-2129.
Please read Jeff Meyers 7/1/18 post "SRS - new SBRA Riders to Group Ride Training Session" for details of this ride.
This will be the faster version of the SRS rides offered on this Sunday. This ride will be a C+ / B- class ride with an average speed of 13-14 mph, and cuising speeds that may reach 14-16mph. Depending on the abliity of the group an addition 5 miles may be added to the 20 mile posted distance for a total riding distance of 25 miles.
Remember to park on the south side of the Sayville RR parking lot.
If you have any questions concerning this ride call Mike (516) 448-8545.
Easy spin ride, with some pacelining to Smith Point and the beach.
This will be a ride, where we'll all keep it in control and enjoy the ride. It will also be a good ride for riders from lower levels to try a higher level ride...we'll teach you how to properly ride in a paceline!
I'm covering for Bobby while he's away. This is some ride he does every Sunday. Speed will be 15-17 mph. We'll head down to the park and then a quick break for bagels. Check for any changes by 8am day of.
Depending on wind, tide and position of moon we will ride approx. 20ish miles at a 10-11.5 mph pace from Ronk station. Be ready to roll at posted time with water, fully inflated tires and helmet. Newbies always welcome and well taken care of and nobody gets left behind. Be there or be square. Cancellation for any reason will be posted by 9am.
