NOTE:
Under the Ride Level details, the "Type: Road Bike" refers to the ride will be on paved roads (rather then off road trails). Although a Road Bike is suggested for Road Bike Type rides it is not required. Hybrid and mountain bikes can be used on these rides as well provided you are comfortable with the pace outline in the Posted Ride. Rocky Point to Northport. Its the hill ride extended into Ron's Wild Turkey Ride. Riders MUST be self sufficient, however there WILL BE WAIT UPS! The group WILL stay together! This will be a slightly different version as we will be looking to get 8k+ feet of climbing! We'll start hills into some rollers then hitting more hills in Port Jeff, rollers through Setauket, Head of the Harbor, Nissequogue, Kings Park, Fort Salonga and Northport and many hills in between! This is a hilly ride and it will be HOT so be prepared with energy and hydration. We will have a deli stops for refills. I'll post any changes by 5:00am morning of ride, if unsure, contact me. See you then!
SLAMMS ride. Snake Hill, Lawrence Hill, Avery, Moore's Hill, Mill Hill, Stillwell and others(?). Route revised to minimize riding on Route 108( Harbor Rd in CSH). Deli/Bakery Stop in Oyster Bay No go in rain.
Please join me for a ride out east. Ride is 50 miles with options for short cuts. We will try to keep the group together and regroup as needed. Hope to see everybody Saturday. Marty
Let's get out early to beat the crazy people and head to Smith's Point. There will be a rest stop at the Deli/7-11 at mile 22 and we can bring it down to the beach (concession stand might not be open when we get to the beach). We will average about 15.5 and ride a bit higher on the straights. If you have ridden with me before you know no one gets left behind and we have a great ride. Hope to see some of my Montauk Century training crew!
Last week we were not able to do the full ride due to rain. Hopefully Saturday will be rainfree and we can do the extra miles. Stop will be at Mcdonalds for a food/rest break around mile 27. Pace will be the high end of B/B+ .
NOTE: Due to a conflict in my schedule most, if not all, of the training rides will be moved to Sunday and replaced with a shorter ride (Great River 28) on Saturday. Please check the schedule
This will be the start of the SEAGULL CENTURY training rides. You DO NOT have to be doing the century to go on any of these rides. The first ride will be about 35 miles since we all should be capable of doing this distance by now. Each week the ride will increase by 5 miles. By the time all training rides are completed I’m sure we will be able to do an easy 100 on a flat course, in Maryland, at a B pace in order to enjoy the ride and scenery. We will take turns at the front, this way you can enjoy the wind in your face and be the first to smell the roses, or the road kill.
Today’s route will take us to Ridge The average pace for the ride will be between 14.7 and 15 mph +/- Depending on the wind, road conditions, the dew point, and the group. Naturally the road speed will be slightly higher (15-17) to produce the average. Around mile 18 or so we’ll make a pit stop; you can go to Mickey D’s or the deli. There will be few long spots where one can stretch the legs if desired, working off any extra calories gained at the rest stop.
Please check the ride calendar for any weather, or last minute cancellations which will be posted no later than 7:30AM if necessary. My cell number is 631.484.3490; call anytime if you have questions about this ride or need directions to the start.
