NOTE:
Under the Ride Level details, the "Type: Road Bike" refers to the ride will be on paved roads (rather then off road trails). Although a Road Bike is suggested for Road Bike Type rides it is not required. Hybrid and mountain bikes can be used on these rides as well provided you are comfortable with the pace outline in the Posted Ride. This ride calendar is for club rides, club meetings, club event posts and shop rides only.

This will be a easy ride just to start tuning up the engine. There is no food stop on this ride. No one left behind, the cruising speed will be 13.5-15mph. Check back by 8am day of ride for any changes.
Sorry but I am canceling this ride until the road conditions improve. This will be my first Metric Century Training Ride also my first bike ride this year so it will be slower then usual, bring money for rest stop, no one left behind.
This WAS to be the first of the B+ training series for the Century. BUT, since SBRA postponed Century training, we'll change the start location to Manorville and ride the Big Roads Loop. (Start Time: 10 AM).
*** Hopefully *** the weather and roads will cooperate so we can ride, but we'll have to see what the next few days have in store. This will be a paceline ride, but fear not, we will strive to keep everyone together.
IF roads aren't plowed, we can always try Sunday...
Bring your fat bike for a scenic ride around the old Grumman complex.
Don't have a fat bike and want to test one out? Many local shops will rent you one for the day. It is great way to get your biking fix when the ground is covered with snow. - liz
We will ride out to Manorville and back. Park in the north-west corner of the lot behind the stores. No one left behind. Cruising speed should be around 12-13mph. Check back day of ride by 8:30am for any changes. I will be leading from a comfort bike.
This will be an exploratory ride around the old Grummans site. We will be riding around the complex perimeter and continuing south of Grumman Blvd. into the surrounding trails. Should be VERY scenic. Bring water/snacks. Don't have a fat bike? Rent one from your local bike shop for the day. Fat bikes enable you to get out and ride even when snow is on the ground!
Let's get back out there. Glen and I have been thinking about this all winter. We will be posting several rides a week from the same start point. Glen will lead the B+ group and I will follow a minute or two later with the B/B+ group. I will strictly adhere to the guidelines of the ride classification and shoot for an average of 16-16.5. Glen will do the same with his group.
Once we get in shape we will change the ride classifications to fit the speeds we will go for each new ride.
Please read the posting I have put on the website to get more information about our goal.
The ride that I am leading will be pacelining where appropriate. We will go to the Manorville McD's and head back to the sunshine mall.
Please check the ride status that morning to see if any changes or cancelations have been made.
Join Bill and I for a ride to Manorville. Enough with the trainers and spin classes. I'm ready for spring. See Bill's description for additional details. Cancel by 6:45.

Park in the King Kullen lot closest to Montauk Highway. We will ride to Westhampton, go East for a couple of miles on Dune Road, go into Quogue, than go West to the Beach Bakery for our break. From the bakery it is about seven miles back to the starting point. Speed will average about 13mph. This is a good starting ride for those of us who haven't ridden for a while, and are tired of spinning or using a trainer. Check your tires, tool kit and anything else you need to bring with you if you have not used your bike recently. Bring a rag or towel to wipe your bike down if the road is wet from snowmelt. For info/questions call Bill Gravitz at 631-356-3036. Any changes will be posted by 9:00 day of ride.
We will head out to Manorville . There is no planed stop unless someone needs a bathroom break. The pace should be 14 to 15mph. No one left behind. Any questions call my phone.

**CHANGE 03-11-15 7:30PM. After checking out several roads today there might be a few detours along the planed route due to large areas of melting snow which might increase the total mileage to 25 miles. Just wanted to give you a heads up on the mileage increase so it wouldn’t be a surprise. Whatever pace the group safely comes in at works for me.**
This is a NOT SURE RIDE since I’m not sure which way I will be going. I’m sorry that I’m a little vague but let’s think safety first! I will check out some roads on Wednesday looking to find a route which will have little or no water on it from the melting snow. Since this is my first ride in awhile it will probably come in with an average around 14mph. I would rather slow down and watch for all the new potholes than fall. There will be a rest stop along the way.
My cell number is 631.484.3490; call anytime if you have questions about this ride or need directions to the start. Please check the ride calendar for any weather, or last minute cancellations which will be posted no later than 8:00AM if necessary.
Park in the King Kullen lot closest to Montauk Highway. This ride will be similar to the ride posted on Wed. 3/11, but with a slightly higher speed, between 13.5 and 14mph, provided that road conditions don't slow us down. I rode the route, and conditions seemed ok on Sunday afternoon. I wanted this ride to be a Bean and Bagel ride, but when I rode that route conditions were not good. See Wed. posting for more ride details. For questions/info. contact Bill Gravitz at 631-356-3036. Make sure you check out your bike and kit if you have not ridden in a while. Bring a rag or towel to wipe your bike down post ride if we hit snowmelt.

Let's sneak in a late winter ride on the flat roads from Sayville to Bellport and Back. Coffee/rest stop at the Deli in Bellport. I drove the route Monday and there will be plenty of sand on the road and an occasional wet spot and pothole. Larger tires and/or fenders are a good idea if you have them. I will be taking it easy and careful on the corners. We should come in at an average pace of about 14mph maybe slower if there is a little wind.
This will be a simple ride for anyone looking to start riding again. There is no food stop so bring a snack if needed. No one left behind. Our pace should be 13-14.5mph.
DUE TO THE WEATHER FORECAST, THIS RIDE WILL BE MOVED TO NEXT WEEKEND. NOT TO WORRY, IF YOU PLAN ON DOING THE METRIC CENTURY, WE STILL HAVE PLENTY OF TIME TO GET READY.
Not sure what the weather is going to turn out to be this weekend, but decided better to post and change as needed so riders know this option will be available. We will start out at a low B pace and progress each week, increasing mileage (sometimes repeating a distance from the week before) and pace as the weeks go on. My intention is to have these rides on Saturdays. If weather forces a cancellation, I will TRY to reschedule for Sunday whenever possible. Expect that the group will stay together at all times, and as distance increases, all riders can expect that they may be asked to take a turn pulling. Rest stop/bathroom breaks will come at mid point of shorter rides, and longer rides will have to SHORT stop for bathroom and one longer stop for snack/lunch.
WITH THE WEATHER FORECAST CALLING FOR RAIN TODAY(SATURDAY) I AM GOING TO MOVE THIS RIDE TO SUNDAY AND START AT THE SUNSHINE MALL . I HAVE A RIDE POSTED FOR SUNDAY ALREADY FOR SUNSHINE MALL SO IT WILL BE THAT RIDE THAT WILL BE THE CENTURY TRAINING RIDE. I WILL CHANGE THE TITLE OF THAT RIDE TO CENTURY TRAINING. IF THERE IS ANY CONFUSION PLEASE CALL ME WITH ANY QUESTIONS.
Well it hard to believe that the snow will be gone but here goes!
This will be the first of many Century Training rides I will be leading. I have to start a week later but I will be posting a ride for both weekend days to catch up. Since it will the first ride for many of us I will be starting at a B pace and gradually easing up to a B/B+ by the time the century rolls around. Each week the mileage will increase and we should be prepared to do the century at the end of the 10 weeks.(9 for me)
So dust off those bikes fill up the tires and lets get started! You are welcome to join even if you do not plan to do the century. Remember there is a Metric Century option if you do not want to do the full century. Regardless of which you plan on doing please remember to sign up and send in your application.
Sorry guys. I'm cancelling for today. Just playing on the side of caution with the roads and something personal has come up. Next week looks to be a bit better. Have a good weekend.
PLEASE READ THE FULL DESCRIPTION
I rode many different routes and just when things look good there are some bad spots that are just too dangerous and can't get around them and the cars are dodging potholes which is even more dangerous to us. Long story short, let's meet down at Heckscher Park, Parking Field 2. We will lap the park and head north to Union Blvd and head towards Babylon. Not sure if there will be a rest stop so bring snack/water and money, just in case. We will be heading into the wind and hopefully enjoy the "push" back. This will be a slow and very cautious ride. If the roads are wet in the morning I will cancel by 7:00 am. If you have any questions please call my cell - 631-767-3176. See you then.
This will be the first training ride for the full century. This group will be for those who are not experienced riders looking to do the century and for those who haven't been on the bike for quite awhile (like myself) looking to get moving at a slow pace. My goal will be to get the group up to riding a high B-/low B pace for the day of the century. I plan on having these training rides on Saturdays and the start time will get earlier as the training goes on to accommodate the longer miles. As the weather is unpredictable and the roads are not in the best of condition, I will post any cancellations at least 2 - 3 hours prior to the start time so it is imperative that you check back for any changes. If a Saturday training is cancelled I will do my best to move it to Sunday if my schedule and weather allows. Please be prepared with proper water bottles, snacks and extra tubes (just in case). I will be keeping the first few training rides on very flat roads as possible. Most the routes will be roads used for the century. About half way into the training we will start to go out of the ecology center which will be a bit hillier.
This particular ride will start at the Oakdale train station (park at the furthest point west) heading east to the Patchogue Train Station (bathroom break) and back. There will be no food stops so please bring snacks. Please come at least 1/2 early to the starting location so that you can set up and get ready to go at 9 am.
If you have any questions regarding this ride, the century or have just general questions, please feel free to contact me on my cell. Think Spring!!!!
This is the first training ride for the Century that I will be leading. Please join even if you are not planning on doing the century and want to start riding again. We will be going out to Manorville today and stopping at around 18 miles for a rest break.
Pace is still an easy B as we ease back into riding and prepare for the century. Each week the mileage will increase and as the group progresses we will be at a B/B+ average for the Century.
Remember there is the Century and a Metric option as well for anyone not wanting to do the 100 miles.
If you plan on doing the event make sure you sign up and send in your application.
Let's get this season started.
Ride with Bruce as we ride along Whiskey Road to the old Bagel Lady and then to Wm Floyd back to Whiskey Road and home. It's our first ride so we will take it easy. We have to re-introduce ourselves back to our bikes. I've been riding a bike all winter that doesn't have wheels or gears or SBRA women :(
Hope to see you there.
I would like to push off at 9:30 so kindly arrive WITH air in your tires already. It would be appreciated.

It’s off to Manorville, hopefully most of the melting snow will be gone. The average pace for the ride will be between 14.0 to 15.0 mph; perhaps a tad higher or lower depending on the road condition, wind direction and other conditions. Naturally, the road speed will be higher (15 -17 mph.) to produce the average. A rest/ food stop at McDonald’s or the bagel shop is on the schedule around mile 12. There will be some leg stretches along the way for those who feel the need.
Please check the ride calendar for any weather, or last minute cancellations which will be posted no later than 8:00AM if necessary. My cell number is 631.484.3490; call anytime if you have questions about the ride or need directions to the start.
Meet at the southeast corner of the Waldbaum's shopping center, near the Wendy's and train tracks. Pace is approximate, it may come in at less than 14MPH since I haven't been on the bike since the first weekend of January. We will head east through Moriches and Eastport with a snack/rest stop at the Beach Bakery. Cancellation for any reason will be posted no later than 7:30AM on Sunday.
We'll try to start the Century Training Season this weekend with a ride out to the border of Manorville. Mileage may change due to conditions. I'll ride with the solid B+ group, so come out and ride.
First Century Training ride of the season. We will keep the pace at a true B+. Paceline where appropriate. Due to the melting snow and sand on the shoulders we will use extra caution on certain stretches of the road. NO one gets dropped.. Just looking to get the rust off from a long winter. Possible rain so check the website for Go/No Go Cue Sheet: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/4195638 Bob D
I rode the route today, it is 95 % good 5 % pot holes, I will be going a lot slower then usual, if you need to go faster please go on a faster ride, I hope the rain stops in time for the roads to dry up, if I have to cancele I will by 8:30am, This will be my first Metric Century Training Ride also my first bike ride this year so it will be slower then usual, bring money for rest stop, no one left behind.
Join me on a slow, easy ride around Center Moriches, East Moriches. We'll stop briefly around mile 12 but no formal rest stop and no bathrooms available. Park in the lot behind Wendy's off Old Neck Road. Check back by 11:30 for the ride status in case the roads don't dry out or something unforeseen happens. Cell phone 516-330-1542.
Park in King Kullen lot in the area closest to Montauk Highway. This ride will be a little longer and a little faster than last weeks rides, with an average speed of 13.5 to 14mph. There will be a bathroom stop around mile seven, a dune road meander about 7 mile long, a quick ride thru Quogue, a stop at the Beach Bakery for a snack and restrooms, and than six miles back to the KK lot. Average speed will be determined by rider ability, wind speed and road conditions. If you have not ridden for a while, please check out your bike and bike kit, the day before the ride, to make sure your equipment is ready for the ride. Any changes will be posted by 08:30 day of ride. For information contact Bill Gravitz at 631-356-3036.
Monday is looking to be the best day of the week so I'm looking to
do a slow "B" ride through the Three Village area. Will ride in accordance
with SBRA guidelines. No pace lining required. Bring a snack with you . We
will have a short break at West Meadow . Plz park in the gym parking lot near
the tall black tennis fencing which is on the north end of the parking lot . Come
on out and start the week right.
***UPDATE - 3/17/2015 – 11:15AM Ride DELAYED till 1:30PM I would like the roads to dry up a little more if that’s possible. By 12:30 I will make a final decision. Thanks. ***
***UPDATE - 3/17/2015 – 7:40AM Ride DELAYED till 12:30PM due to rain. Please check back at 11:30AM for any additional changes, if any. Thanks.***
We will be going to Ronkonkoma today if you care to join me. The average pace for the ride will be between 14.0 to 15.0 mph give or take depending on the wind and road conditions direction. The road speed will be between 15 and 17 mph, stopping around mile 17 for our morning coffee at the Ronkonkoma Lounge. As usual there will be a spot or two where one can stretch the legs if desired.

Going to be COOL and WINDY on Wednesday ... time to be in the woods again. We'll do at least two Black Diamonds ... CR83 and Side Winder for starts. Depending who shows we'll do some more ... but NO ONE GETS LEFT in the woods. Check back here before leaving for the ride start as thinks change in life!
Also, no need to show up 20 minutes early and either over heat in the car or freeze outside ... please try to be on time for the ride start.
I have made 2 routes for this ride; we’ll be using the one that is appropriate for the wind direction on ride day. We’ll be going to; it’s a surprise since I don’t know which route will be used - - but you will like either one. The average pace for the ride will be between 14.0 to 15.0 mph, give or take depending on the wind direction and road conditions. The road speed will be between 15 and 17 mph. We'll stop along the way for coffee and a pee break. As usual there will be a spot or two where one can stretch the legs if desired. PARKING: Use the area of the parking lot on the WEST side.

Sorry folks, Susan and I were asked to do an "emergency" baby sitting for the girls.
Come along with Bruce as we extend the ride from this past Sunday, hopefully, without the cold and the wind :(
We will do the pace of the group. No one gets dropped.
Hope to see you there.
New start time is at 11:00 am. Due to temperature and wind the ride might be shortened, rerouted or cancelled. Check this website for any last minute changes, which will be posted by 08:00AM day of ride. Park in King Kullen lot on the side closest to McDonalds and 7-11. Our break will be at the Bean and Bagel, about 9 miles into the ride. Average speed will be between 13-13.5mph, depending upon road conditions, wind speed and rider ability. For information/questions contact Bill Gravitz at 631-356-3036.
This will be the second Century training ride. We will start in Holtsville and head out to Manorville where we will stop for a break. We are still going to be at a B Pace and by the century we will be at a B/B+ pace. Everyone stays together. If you do not plan on doing the century you are welcome to join the group. For anyone not able to make today, I will be going out again tomorrow with approx the same mileage from Sunshine Mall.
Oh Bobbbbbbbbbbbbbby, the jelly donut still calls. Let’s take a scenic ride through Eastport, Remsenburg and Westhampton Beach. The average pace will be between 14.0 and 15.0 mph. depending on the wind, road conditions, geese, ducks, squirrels, rabbits and that stray goat you see every once in awhile. Road speed will be between 15 & 17 mph; naturally there will be the usual leg stretches. Around mile 22 we’ll stop at the Beach Bakery for some goodies and a bathroom break before heading back to the start.

I will be posting a ride for both Saturday and Sunday...
With the unsettled weather hopefully we will get in one of them...
This will be a true B+ ride.. For the faster riders look for Dennis Jackson's ride.
We will stop at Manorville for a short break.

Just drove route by car and the roads are pretty dry...lowed the class to c+/b-
Just in case it rains in the morning we'll have this to fall back on. Speed should be 13-15.5mph. No one left behind. There will be a quick break at mile 13.
This will be the original route from Oakdale but want to take it to Bellport so it is a little bit longer than what the first ride was going to be. We can gauge the group when we get to Patchogue and make a decision. If we make it to Bellport there will be a deli stop, if not make sure you have snacks on hand. Any cancellations will be posted by 7 am. Please arrive 1/2 early so that we can roll out at 9.

***UPDATE- 3/21/2015 – 6:15PM RIDE CHANGED TO MANORVILLE START IS SUNSHINE MALL. I just check out the Great River 28 route. There is just much too much sand on the shoulders. I did Manorville last week and it was better so that’s where I think we should go. ***
It’s off to Manorville, hopefully most of the melting snow will be gone. Since Saturdays ride was cancelled due to snow this is now the Century Training week 2
Join me for a ride out to Manorville. For anyone that was not able to make the century training yesterday you can make up your miles today.
We are stopping at McDonalds for a break and then heading back. We will stay together as a group. At this point safety of the group is the most important thing. Roads are not great so we may have to slow down the pace to navigate through the potholes and road debris.
I will be posting a ride for both Saturday and Sunday...
With the unsettled weather hopefully we will get in one of them...
This will be a true B+ ride.. For the faster riders look for Dennis Jackson's ride.
We will stop at Manorville for a short break.

This is going to be a "B" and nothing faster. I went for my first bike ride in over a year today and did a big 15 miles. I do not want to do someones else's ride as I am not up to 35 miles and do not want to hold anyone up waiting for me. Average speed will be about 15 MPH depending on wind conditions. Please note there is no rest stop on this ride. It is just out and back. Hope to see you there
LET'S SEE HOW THE ROADS LOOK IN THE MORNING. MIGHT STRT LATER IF ROADS CLEAR. MIGHT RESCHEDULE FOR SUNDAY IF I AM ABLE We will start out at a low B pace and progress each week, increasing mileage (sometimes repeating a distance from the week before) and pace as the weeks go on. My intention is to have these rides on Saturdays. If weather forces a cancellation, I will TRY to reschedule for Sundays when possible (we are running out of weeks!) Rest stops will be roughly at the mid point, and we will have 2 stops on the longer rides. DUE TO POSSIBLE WEATHER AND OTHER CIRCUMSTANCES, I AM CHANGING THE RIDE START AND THE DISTANCE. WE WILL HAVE TO WATCH THE WEATHER, BUT THIS RIDE MAY BE DELAYED TO GIVE THE ROADS A CHANCE TO CLEAR
RIDE UPDATE - FRIDAY 9:30PM: RIDE IS POSTPONED FOR SATURDAY DUE TO THE SNOW. DEPENDING ON HOW THE ROADS LOOK LATER IN DAY ON SATURDAY I MAY RESCHEDULE FOR SUNDAY. CHECK THE RIDE CALENDAR SATURDAY EVENING TO SEE WHETHER THE RIDE IS ON FOR SUNDAY OR CANCELLED ALTOGETHER.
Meet at the overflow lot south of the train station. Since last week's Moriches ride came in at under 13MPH I am downgrading the pace of this ride, especially if it is windy. We will head out east through Bayport, Blue Point, Patchogue, East Patchogue and Bellport, with a food/rest stop at the deli on Station Rd in Bellport Village. If the temps aren't too low we can head down to the marina to eat. On the route back we will do an extra loop past the ride start into the West Sayville and Oakdale area to add the 5 miles needed to get the total up to 30. Cancellation for any reason will be posted no later than 8:00AM on Saturday. If cancelled, the ride may be rescheduled for Sunday.
This is the winter version of Dennis' Area 51 ride. I am posting in case the roads are still messy Sunday.
It will only take place if Bobs century training ride is cancelled for road conditions.
Check back, the status will be updated by 7:30 Sunday morning. If Bobs ride is on this ride WILL be cancelled.
A lead group is welcome, you know who you are....
Officially CANCELLED. See you at Bobs ride. For the "lead" group have fun stay safe.....
We will try to complete the route from last Sunday. Riding to Sassy Salads and then east, south and West to go home. Wait ups will be done as needed.
Hope to ride with you.

Doing a slow steady ride of the Three Village area. Group will
stay together and we will ride within the SBRA Guidelines. No
real food stop so bring a snack . We will stop at West Meadow for a
short break. Please park in the north side of the parking lot
by the tall black tennis fences . This route and style of riding is
a good change of pace from the weekend century training. No pace
lining required.

Wildwood has picnic tables and bathrooms, and is at about 12.5 miles into the ride. Speed will average between 13-14mph, depending upon road conditions, wind speed and rider ability. This will be a nice easy C+ ride. Pace should be 12.5-14mph. We will go out to Manorville, down to Moriches and back. No one left behind. Park behind the stores in the north-west corner.
The March Executive Board meeting with be held on the 26th at 7pm at Panera Bread in Bohemia.
All members are welcome to attend. Any member with business to be brought before the board is asked to contact
Jeff Meyer our administrative VP so the board can be prepared for discussion.
All votes taken at the meeting are by board members only.
If Glen does his B+ ride, feel free to mix in with that group for as long as you desire then fall back to a slower pace. A great way to move up ride levels and see what you can do.
**Update – 3/27/2015 – 10:10AM – CANCLED – There appears to be more rain coming so the roads will be just too wet. Perhaps tomorrow will be a better day.**
**Update – 03/27/2015 – 7:30AM – Ride DELAYED till 11:30 please check back around 10:15 and we'll see how the roads are before making a final decision.**
My cell number is 631.484.3490; call anytime if you have questions about this ride or need directions to the start. Please check the ride calendar for any weather, or last minute cancellations which will be posted no later than 8:00AM if necessary.
"EASY" Short B+ ride.. WE will stay around 18 average..
Saving the legs for the 42 miler Sunday.
Riders looking to move up to a B+ this is a good ride for you...
NO ONE GETS Dropped!!
ALL B+ riders welcome so we might split into 2 groups...
I was trying to hold out but based on the forcast I need to be safe and cancel. I do have a ride posted for tomorrow afternoon but it was supposed to be a short run. If enough people contact me or comments on the post or based on who shows up tomorrow I can modify it to a training ride but it will go to later in the afternoon.
Even though we are behind in the mileage I wanted to keep this ride the same as last week as it is supposed to be another windy day. I think another week of getting used to the bike and roads is needed. Right now the plan is to head west to Bay Shore and into the wind and get it out of the way to hopefully enjoy the benefits coming back. We will loop down to Heckscher Park and then back to Sayville. I suggest you bring snacks and water. We will have a quick stop but we want to keep moving. A quick note: I do plan on doing the full Century as long as over the next couple of week we really start adding on the miles. Remember come the day of the Century, if you not not comfortable doing the full Century the Metric is an option as well.
Please be sure to have extra tubes and CO cartridges on hand as these roads are not being very friendly. Better to be prepared!
If you have any questions or looking for additional information, feel free to contact my cell.
Refreshments / Coffee stop at Jamesport Duffys Deli, brief stop/reassembly as needed at IPBP and other key locations. [/][/b]
as marked -- good B+ riders are welcome to give it a try! Promise no one getting dropped or lost -- waiting up at key points as necessary.
Looking for a good base level A (but up to A+, AA at times possible with wait-ups as needed) pace. No one is getting dropped.
In general I want to see this smooth super efficient team effort to optimize time!!! Smooth but fast in general. Little playing allowed at the few dedicated hilly sections (you will find out). Reassembly after that -- always, no worries.
** Come for a training ride -- "as fast as you are working with me" **
I classified it back down to A all-over -- but we will go some sections at A+..AA pace for sure (if you go and work with me) -- A and good B+ riders are always welcome, may form a trailing group, if any? -- learn how to work as a team!! -- we will have some wait ups (on top of the 1st lil hill if needed) but we will not wait on every turn -- as I also classified it as TEAM, what means exactly this -- stay all together as much as possible and help each other for most efficiency and best pace w/o dropping any one -- regardless, unless on riders request or extreme mismatch.... -- you better be able sit in easy at 19..21mph and try to handle a few faster sections (slow down afterwards for reassembly) -- have fun!
Rocky Point 2 Iron Peer Beach Park for quick snack watching the sound and reassembly, Coffee/Refreshments now in Jamesport Duffys Deli. Watch for weather related updates or delays -- will post any change or cancellations by very latest start time -1 hour at the day of ride, if unsure, contact me. Let's Go Flying. Starts promptly as indicated on top at Tildas Bake Shop, typical moving time 2h45..3h depending on you. Starts out with some rollers on North Country Rd to warm up, will go fast, but will do the best to reassemble group after 1st climb(s) and as needed, group stays together as a Team AND SHARES THE WIND if any and has fun like few flying birds! Read here for past ride logs, stories, photos and details: http://pyzahl.blogspot.com/search?q=RP2IPBP
However, this is a team style training ride, lean and execute team play, work together not to show off -- with exception of a few designated sections to play... with following regrouping.
***UPDATE - 3/28/2015 – 9:30AM CANCELED – Sorry guys/gals I just give up, the roads won’t be safe. I will check out the route for tomorrow and if there are any changes due to road conditions I will do that this evening.***
**UPDATE – 03/28/2015 – 7:30AM – The Ride is DELAYED till 11:00 check back at 9:30 for another update. I’m hoping this will blow over and not be too wet. I’m going to try and get this ride in.**
My cell number is 631.484.3490; call anytime if you have questions about this ride or need directions to the start. Please check the ride calendar for any weather, or last minute cancellations which will be posted no later than 7:30am if necessary.
Third B+ training ride of the season.
Visiting Area 51 today for just a bit.. then up 111 for a short stop at Manorville McDonalds
All B+ riders welcome...we will break into 2 groups as I intend on staying close to the 18mph average.
Let's give this a shot. We will make a quick stop at the 7-11 on William pky. The idea is to loosen up for the up coming rides. We will stick together.
WEATHER FOR SUNDAY LOOKS BETTER, SO I AM MOVING RIDE, JUST IN CASE.
We will start out at a low B pace and progress each week, increasing mileage (sometimes repeating a distance from the week before) and pace as the weeks go on. My intention is to have these rides on Saturdays. If weather forces a cancellation, I will TRY to reschedule for Sundays when possible (we are running out of weeks!) Rest stops will be roughly at the mid point, and we will have 2 stops on the longer rides.
This is our 3rd week of Century Training. So far so good for those who have come out for the rides! Each week the ride will get longer and hopefully the pace will pick up as well. We are still at a mid B pace so even if you are not doing the century please come join us. If you plan on doing the Century make sure you sign up! Our stop will be in Manorville around mile 20 where we will have a food/rest stop break.
Please note that we are starting in HOLTSVILLE today NOT the SUNSHINE MALL...
Sorry folks, it will be 27 degrees at the start with a "real feel" of 22. That coupled with icy roads don't do it for me. I'll post a ride for Thursday.
I'll be at the gym
all are welcome to ride or c/c ski or hike.... fat bikes would be the bike of the day no set pace---no set route--- day drinking at ride end is always an option
*******UPDATE – 3/29/2015 – 10:30AM– The local roads around Holbrook have been salted and sanded they are a mess. I’m going to take a chance on Eastport. I don’t know how many miles we’ll wind up with, it all depends on the roads and how many U turns we have to make. The ride will really be an explore and a crap shoot; If that squeeks your duck I’ll see you there.****** ***
UPDATE – 3/29/2015 – 7:20AM – DELAYED till 12:30PM. Let’s see if the sun comes out and improves the roads. Please check back around 11:00AM for any additional changes. I'll drive some roads this morning and take a closer look. This really sucks!

I am changing this to be a training ride since we had to cancel on Saturday so I changed the mileage. Even though we are behind in the mileage I wanted to keep this ride the same as last week. I think another week of getting used to the bike and roads is needed. Right now the plan is to meet and the overflow parking on the south side of the track (across the street from the station) and head west to Bay Shore and back. We will loop down to Heckscher Park and then back to Sayville. I suggest you bring snacks and water. We will have a quick stop but we want to keep moving. A quick note: I do plan on doing the full Century and will will need to up the mileage significantly over the next few weeks. Remember come the day of the Century, if you are not comfortable doing the full Century the Metric is an option as well which there will be groups for you to join.

No one will be dropped. Check the ride calendar for any weather or last minute cancellations which will be posted no later than 8:00 AM if necessary. My cell number is (631) 804-0751.

Hills 101, a great way to get your hill muscles moving as we do this ride weekly for half the year. Start with us now, if you've never done this ride before, as we improve weekly.
I am definitely slower than I've been in years due to the winter break, so please consider another hill ride if you want to zoom for all 21 miles. We will come in around 13mph.
The route will be from Marshalls to the Old Field lighthouse. There is a snack break (bring something along) but no bathroom. There will be places for strong climbers to push ahead of the pack, but we will wait up as needed for riders having early season hill issues. That is what this ride is about.
This will be our basic route this year, 2 miles longer than in the past as there are some awful potholes to avoid. (more. . .) Some old hills are gone, replaced by new hills and we are going to have a great time.
I wanted to list this ride as 10:00, but the program was a bit cranky, so we leave PROMPTLY at 10:14.
Any cancellation will be posted by 9AM. My cell, day of ride only, is 631-835-1454.
