>>> SIGN UP NOW CLOSED! <<<
To participate you MUST BE A CURRENTSBRA Member byAPRIL 30, 2024.
Registration fee is $25and must be purchased by May 25th. NOTE: You can change your mind at any time should you decide to do a Century or Metric Century. Just make sure you go to the correct ride start location. The registration fee is the same for both rides.
I am posting this ride for the Montauk century. Please read carefully
We will be leaving at 7:00 am Please arrive at least a half hour early so you can check in at the check in point and park your car. Warning: Babylon LIRR station has metered parking that is monitored daily. Please bring change/credit card for meters and make sure your inspection and registration is up to date. They WILL ticket you.
If you are taking the train back this is where you need to come back to. Your bikes will be delivered here. Depending on the traffic you may arrive before the bikes so please wait. You should buy your ticket before boarding the train to avoid penalty fee. You can purchase tickets at the station machine using cash/credit card (no ticket window) or use the MTA app called "TrainTime". If using TrainTime app, please make sure you establish your account well before the ride. The conductor won't wait for you to establish your account on the train.
At the end of the ride there are plenty of places to eat and relax and you still need to get from town to the train station which is about a mile out of town. You can bring a bag with your clothes if you want to change when you get to Montauk so please make sure your bag can close and has your identification on the outside of the bag. Back pack is ideal for this. You will give your bag to Amy Olander who will be at the Babylon Train station and will take your bags out to Montauk. When giving your bikes to be loaded on the truck please remove anything that can easily break such as Garmins, mirrors or lights as SBRA is not responsible for any damage to those types of items even though the bikes are loaded with care!
Pls note that the base Century route does not take you to the lighthouse. I am providing a Century+ route option (125 miles) that will go out to the lighthouse (photo op), up to Gosman's Dock, around Fort Pond and then we'll take Mtk State Pwy back to Hither Hill before returning to town via Old Mtk Hwy. Warning: This route will add another 1000 ft of climb to the base Century route which has 1900 ft. I created this option as a training ride for my upcoming Double Century Attempt ride on June 22nd. If you would just like to go out to the lighthouse and go straight back to town, it would add just another 12 miles and a few nice hills.
Last but not least for those of you that are taking the train back, you can try to take your bike on the train. There is a train at 3:16 pm and 5:19 pm that you can try to make if you don't want to wait for the later train. Although bikes are permitted on these two trains, the conductor has the ultimate right to limit the number of bikes allowed. The later train leaves at 7:42 pm but bikes are NOT permitted on this train.
Join us for a B/B+ pace version of the SBRA Century out to Montauk. This will be a paceline ride and we will likely be riding at a pace at the upper end of the B/B+ range for the beginning of the ride, so that we are not on the road all day. We'll take advantage of (hopefully) a partial tailwind out to around Bridgehampton, where the winds may shift against us. Then it's time to tough-out the East End winds! Also, we'll take a different route through Bellport to avoid the bad roads.
We'll do this ride in memory of Al Kelly who designed many of SBRA's favorite routes, and Jessie Newman who ran the SBRA Time Trial twice each year. We'll also remember Nick Attisano from Twin Forks and Al Swiezy and his ice cream spoon.
To keep everyone together, stronger riders drop it down a gear on the hills, so everyone can keep up. And, if you are not strong on hills, start spinning before the start of the hill and dig hard to keep-up over the hill - then you can take a breather!
To get things going, sign-in with SBRA at the west end of the parking lot, as soon as you arrive. Grab some goodies and we'll meet-up in the parkng lot and we'll hit the road at 7:10 AM!
IF you want to ride with us, text 631-848-2328 and let us know; we can send you our version of the GPS route to your email address if you provide it to us. You can also call the same number (at a normal hour), if you have any questions.
Let's have a fun safe ride, so everyone can celebrate at the Shagwong at the end! Don't forget to order some Thunderbird!
Allons-y!

It's a Metric Century ++ because it's a + for the extra 4 miles to reach Montauk town . It's flat and Rolling because of the few hills on Old Montauk Hwy (@ 63.4 miles) when the adrenaline hits! From that point it will probably every man for him/her self! The other "+" is a MAYBE for riding out to Montauk Point if I have it in me (additional 16 miles)! There are hills east of Montauk town and there's always wind in one direction or the other.
This is NOT a regular ride ... no signup sheets but there is a sign in! If there are more than 10 riders with me then Joe has volunteered to lead a second group ... and if we have more than he's comfortable with we will ask for another Ride Leader.
Please download the ride from Ride With GPS ... I do not plan on leading the entire ride. Riding with a cue sheet can be dangerous unless you stop often to refer to it. I do NOT want riders holding a cue sheet while they ride with my group!
This will be an easy C ride around Center Moriches, that will average 11.5 - 12 and will be taking our break at Nettie's. There are some very nice water views along the way. The number of riders is limited, so if you want to ride, text me (631-523-2129) with your SBRA Member Number and Emergency Contact phone number. I will respond to your text and let you know if you have a spot on the ride. Once the ride is filled, I will change to post to indicate that.

Going to Great River. I would like to come in between 14.8 and 14.9 mph +/- a tad. In order to get this average we will be doing road speeds between 15.0 and 16.5 mph. Meet-up at the parking lot across from The Maples, for something a little different! This will be anon-stopteam time trial ride. We'll do 5 laps of the old Grumman 6.25 mile Time Trial course, plus warmup and cooldown. Make sure you have adequate water bottles and gels, since we're riding non-stop!
The details:
We start with a 2.3 mile warmup from The Maples up to the intersection of Line Road and Grumman Boulevard. Then it's the time trial, where everybody takes a pull at the front of the pack, then rolls to the back for some recovery. DO NOT coast when you get off the front - you will be dropped! We'll try to stay together for the first 4 laps, but the the last (5th) lap is all-in at your own pace. Finally, we'll do a 2.3 mile cooldown, riding together back to the parking lot.
IF you get dropped, we aren't slowing down, but you can use the shortcut riding up Line Road to Grumman Boulevard to rejoin the group!

Going downhill, or with the wind at your back will be faster. The main objective is to finish the ride without being too concerned about the average. Ok, the intercept and Breakaway has been successful and gonna continue this. Should we get to many riders for the Calverton 41 (Brian Toole ride) we will (My Group) start the ride a minute before the Calverton 41. I have designed a 65 mile route but based off of Wind and Legs we can cut it back to 56 miles. Prepare for 65 miles but understand we can reduce it to 56 miles.
To better assist the Breakaway my group will fall to the back of the Paceline after Halsey Manor Rd but before David Terry Rd. I don't want to create any confusion at that Intersection for Brian's Group.

Changes or cancelation will be posted by 1:30pm day of ride.
Join us for a last minute spin. Pace 12-14, could be slower or a little faster, a lot will depend on the group, wind/weather. Any questions about this ride call my cell 631-882-4366.
Let's meet at The Maples and try something different and challenging: riding against the clock!
We'll start with a 2.3 mile warmup, together at a B/B+ pace. Then the fun begins: a 4 lap time trial around the 6.25 mile Grumman time trial loop. It's only about 25 miles, no problem right? But here's the catch:you ride the 4 laps alone pushing as hard as you want to, with no drafting off other riders! We'll start at the traditional 1 minute interval between riders, so no one interferes with another rider. You can also just do 2 laps, if you don't think you can complete the 4 laps.
We'll gather at the finish line, and then ride together 2.3 miles back to the The Maples.
*** We're not responsible for timing your laps, so get familiar with the lap button on your computer! ***
This C+ ride of 18-25 miles will average 11.5-12.5mph. Bring snack/hydration as route depends on wind, tide, position of moon and ride leaders disposition. Newbies welcome and well taken care of and nobody gets left behind. Any cancellation will be by 8:30am. No need to text, email, phone, send message by carrier pidgeon or smoke signal me. Just show up 15-20 minutes before ride start to get your s**t together.
This will be a B- ride. Expect an average between 14.5-14.9 In order to get this average the road speeds will be between 14.5 and 16.5 mph. Going downhill, or with the wind at your back will be faster. The main objective is to finish the ride without being too concerned about the average. The average will depend mainly on the wind, the hills, and who shows up. We will stay together and there will be one or two break-a-ways for those who want. We will take a break at the Beach and a rest stop at Wertheim about mile 10. Pulls would be appreciated.
If you have any questions or concerns please text me at 631.484.3490. Should there be a cancelation, or change it will be posted by 7:30am.
I am substituting for our Mi Tierrita ride leader Howard. We will go the usual route heading East & South and work our way over to Smithspoint Beach for our halfway point break. I would like to keep the road speeds between 15-18 mph and come in at an average 15 to 15.7. Assistance in pulling is always much Appreciated.
Please check ride calendar morning of the ride incase we have to cancel due to rain. This ride has nortoriously been plagued by rain in the past and if rain is forecasted I will cancel by 7:30 very latest.
Join me for this C+ ride that will average 11.8 - 12.5. We will be riding from the Timber Point Golf Course in East Islip to Islip, and doing a few loops with some nice sights and water views. We will take a break at one of the beaches along the way, where there is a bathroom and concession stand.
No one gets dropped and we will be observing spacing rules, etc. The exact route will be determined the morning of the ride (thus, no cue sheets).
After entering the golf course, park in the FIRST lot on your RIGHT.
Please arrive at least 15 minutes before the ride start, to allow enough time for me to get everyone signed in and to "get yourself" ready.
The number of riders is limited, so if you want to ride, text me (631-523-2129) with your SBRA Member Number and Emergency Contact phone number. I will respond to your text and let you know if you have a spot on the ride. Once the ride is filled, I will change to post to indicate that.

Guess what!! The Kreb Bellport shop has graciously agreed to host us for the Friday B+ rides (thank you, Chris & Sharon). Please park in the Bellport village municipal parking lot and then gather for the ride start across Bell St at the bike shop (10 Bell St). Restroom will be available to us pre & post-ride. One rest stop will be at The Maples parking lot at roughly the halfway point of route; however, no public restrooms or food/drink available so bring sufficient food/bottle(s) from start. Wait-ups on route as needed.
Please park in the North West edge of the parking lot.Rider meeting in the shop at 7:50. Talk about riding single file and staying out of the middle of the road. The summer season has started out here and there is plenty of traffic!
Sign up sheet in shop....this is an A- ride. Lisa is leading a B+ ride out of The Bellport Kreb Cycle...park in the municiple lot.
Bathroom breaks at the end of Dune Road and the park in East Quogue.
Don't forget to check out the most protective bike helmet in the Virgina Tech Study, The Giro Aires Spehrical
Better than anything Trek POC Kask or Specialized had in the study. Better than everything!!!!!!
Jeremy has a ride that follows the same route till the end of Red Creek. Try that if you dare...then finish with us if you want. But the rides won't start together.

This ride follows 25A through St. James, then Smithtown to Kings Park. We will be on Edgewood for the entire length (a well-traveled road some prefer to avoid) and in Smithrown we will bike on the pavement as we get to Meadow Rd. Definitely a ride which requires a willingness to bike near traffic for a good portion. About 10+ miles each way. Hills are comparatively minor.
Snack stop at the delicious Park Bakery, then we bike back to Marshalls. Text (above) with any questions.
Please check back as weather is questionable for Friday. Any changes or cancellation will be posted by 7:30am morning of ride.
NOTE: THIS IS NOT THE SBRA BIKE-BOAT-BIKE EVENT (WHICH IS NOW DEFUNCT).
This ride goes to & around Shelter Island, with a rest stop at bakery (Marie Eiffel Market) in Dering Harbor on SI before the ferry back to Greenport. Please bring $6.00 cash for round trip ferry fare (rider + bike).
Wait-ups as needed but NO SWEEP on this ride. Expect at least an 18.X avg by ride end.
Join the Thunderbirds on a metric century plus, leaving the Veterans' Memorial Park in Calverton, heading out to Greenport. This will be a paceline ride, with a high B/B+ pace..
On the way East, we'll ride part of Sound Avenue and the North Road, heading past the Mattituck Strawberry Festival. We'll then probably do a stretch at the Horton Point Lighhouse, and then it's to Soundview Avenue and the North Road on to Greenport. We'll have a food stop in Greenport, probably at the Goldberg's Bagels.
The return will take us along Route 25 through Southold and Mattituck. Then it's onto Peconic Bay Boulevard to Hubbard Avenue, with a possible stop at the comfy Adirondack Chairs. Then's it's the final push through Riverhead and onto Route 24 to Grumman Boulevard and Burman Boulevard to the finish.
I hear all the time from people, "I want to do your ride, but _______________." I almost always respond, "Just come, you'll be fine." This is the "just come, youll be fine" ride. Some of our regular speedsters have a different ride, so we will keep it reasonable on the regular stretches with a couple of kick up spots at the end of Dune Road, Red Creek, and Pleasure Drive. We will have wait ups for everyone at the end of each of the stretches.
This is the Saturday to give it a go! Come join us!

LONG-SLOWer-DISTANCE getting ready for John's double century without re-injury's. So the route will be similar to the Firehouse 44 but add 51 and 111, the speed and effort will be cut way back from past rides. This ride will go to upper Port. The hills are really short upgrades, just enough resistance to work the legs a bit. Stopping for bagels/coffee at mile 12-ish and then home.
Please let me know if you are joining. My cell: 631-835-1454.
If you intend to join this ride you MUST pre-register. Pls call or txt me at 347-922-3824 before 8pm Friday.
Ok - so here it is. This has been on my "bucket list" for several years. Please join me for this EPIC endurance adventure ride. This is a somewhat scenic ride but the real focus is to ride efficiently and make it as far as we can within daylight hours (I don't intend to ride past 8:30pm). I've tried to minimize hills but we'll still have about 5,000 ft of climbing if we complete the full route. I've created a route that will provide several "bail-out" options if you/we can't complete the full course.
I'm planning to make 5-10 min stops about every 25-30 miles for hydration, restrooms and food but this may change as "nature" calls. There will also be at least 2-3 "real food" stops along this journey where more time will be allotted (I can't survive on protein bars and GU all day - LOL). Avg speed should be in B+ range (17-18 mph) with a max cruising speed in the very low 20's; however, this is always subject to change based on weather/wind conditions.
Please pack proper hydration (at least 2 water bottles), food to eat along the way (Cliff Bars, trail mix, GU packs, etc) and some $$/credit card for real food (breakfast/lunch/dinner), ferries and possible train. Pls begin nutrition/hydration routine 48 hrs prior to ride. There is plenty of info on the internet about this.
Download route below and charge all batteries and bring additional charging blocks (if necessary). I'm estimating this ride will take 13-14 hrs to complete (including break time). Make sure your Garmin/Wahoo can last. I'm sure everyone wants to record this ride. The last thing you want if for your device to die before the end.
We MUST keep the group together and work as a team. My intent is not to drop anyone; however, based on past experience, some riders may not be able to finish the full double century for various reasons (muscle cramping, heat exhaustion, mechanical issues, etc.). In this case, please have a back-up plan to get yourself home (spouse, friend, Uber, etc). I also have a bail-out option once we reach the south fork. There are several trains leaving Montauk in the afternoon that make all local stops back to Patchogue. Pls download the MTA TrainTime app on your cell phone so you have access to the train schedule.
If anyone has any questions, please call. Check website Friday evening for any possible changes.
Lets beat the Heat.. starting at 8:30.. after the ride we are going to have a mini picnic and chill under the shade. Bring something to eat! We might be grilling some hot dogs but could always use something to go with them..

We'll head out through Westhampton Beach along the south shore to Southampton, where we'll have a short break. The return will take us along Montauk Highway through Shinnecock and eventually back along Old Country Road to the finish.
Ride is No Go if it's raining ! So, check the SBRA Calendar for any changes, before heading to the ride.

This is the same ride, same route Howard normally does. This is a B ride which means at the end of the ride we should have an average between 15-16. Of course wind and the weather will play a major factor. I would like to keep our road speed between 16-17, downhill slightly faster and uphill of course slower. There will be the normal break-away points for those who want to stretch their legs. Of course assistance in pulling is greatly appreciated. I only request is if you do not wish to assist in pulling please do not work your way to the front of the group.
Please check ride calendar morning of ride for cancellation. If a cancellation becomes necessary it will be posted by 7:15 am
Going to Great River. I would like to come in between 14.8 and 14.9 mph +/- a tad. In order to get this average we will be doing road speeds between 15.0 and 16.5 mph. Expect down hills and wind at your back to be faster. We will take a break at the bagel shop about mile 20. Things could change slightly due to road conditions and wind direction.Pulling is always appreciated. Back by popular demand -GOOD STUFF AFTER THE RIDE.
We will start out with our usual Reverse 51 with a quick stop at Wildwood and then make our way to Briermere. After this stop we wil put it into reverse again and head back to VMP. Check out the route or download it, hope to see you there!

We'll try to do this non-stop, so pack two water bottles and some food. We'll soft pedal at some point, so we can grab a drink and food.
The route will take us down Rte.24, through Riverhead and then back through the farms, with a finish run on Grumman Blvd.

If you have any questions or concerns please text me at 631.484.3490. Should there be a cancelation, or change it will be posted by 7:00am.
Today's Mi Tierrita ride will be going to the Beach. The route is mostly flat with a small incline here and there. The average pace for the ride will be between 15 to 15.9 mph, depending on the roads and wind direction. The road speed will be between 16.0 and 17.0 mph. The usual break-a-ways will happen for those who desire. We'll stop along the way for a bathroom break around mile 10. Don’t forget to bring a snack. Do you know what AGUAPANELA is? Come and find out. Pulls are always appreciated.
This C+ ride of 18-25 miles will average 11.5-12.5mph. Bring snack/hydration as route depends on wind, tide, position of moon and ride leaders disposition. Newbies welcome and well taken care of and nobody gets left behind. Any cancellation will be by 8:00am. No need to text, email, phone, send message by carrier pidgeon or smoke signal me. Just show up 15-20 minutes before ride start to get your s**t together.
Park in the first lot on the right back at the West end.
What better way to have an excuse to have a bagel, than riding 40 miles.
We'll meet across from The Maples for a paceline ride to Hampton Bays. We'll start at 9:00 AM, so that any remaining rains will have a chance to clear-out.
Besides, who wants to get up early anyways???
NOTE: This will be a controlled, moderate paceline ride, so we can recover from the Wednesday Ride.
The stop will be at about 20 miles, so right at the halfway point. If bagels are not your thing, there is also the Wild by Nature store in the same shopping center.
***No A ride at this location. A Rides happen at Kreb Eastport location, same day & time***
Remember the Allison Gonzalez Tag-A-Long ride of days past??THIS IS IT. This is the B+ Kreb ride to The Maples. Pace is UP TO 18.9 avg at end (which means cruising to 21mph on the flats).
No sprints on Victory or anywhere else; group stays together.

Very hard to believe that both the wonderful people seen in the video are no longer with us.
Both Bob and Don were great readers. Bob and I would often talk about what fiction we were currently reading along with other off topic non bicycle things. Bob was a wonderful person who I was very happy to get to know a little. The video in the link was taken in the work area of our Bellport shop about 10 years ago. I'm so glad that I was able to find it and share it here. I hope you enjoy this video-that it makes your life a little happier today-the way Bob did when he came to visit us in Bellport. We love you Bob R.I.P.
Take a moment to enjoy each day and the people around you.
This ride will be our usual Friday dune road route. Please be mindful of the traffic and do not drift out into the road as our roads are now very crowded with summertime traffic. Please park in the North West portion of the parking lot....thanks. Sign up sheet in the shop.
