Scenic Byway Corridor Management Plan (CMP)

NYC Sceneic BywaysA letter from Mark Woods ... New York State Department of Transportation

    Hello SBRA Members,
A public meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, May 12th, 2009 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the
Nathan Bennett Pavilion, Hempstead Town Hall, One Washington Street, Hempstead.

This first introductory public meeting is for the public to learn about the project and solicit their comments, suggestions and ideas on the development of a Scenic Byway Corridor Management Plan (CMP) for Select Historic Long Island Parkways.  The format for the meeting will be a brief presentation introducing the planning effort, a review of the draft vision and goals for the Long Island parkways, followed by a public input session in a question and answer period.

A public meeting Press Release has been circulated by the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT).  For directions to Hempstead Town Hall and the Nathan Bennett Pavilion click here.  The meeting site is handicapped accessible.  There are public parking facilities available both on-street and in municipal parking lots, as shown on the directions. This location is also served by mass transit: directly by 5 bus lines, within one or two blocks of 8 other bus lines, and three or four blocks from the Hempstead Transit Center, a bus/rail hub served by 21 of Long Island Bus’s 54 routes and by the Hempstead Branch of the Long Island Rail Road.

We are requesting that you please distribute this information through your network of contacts, friends and neighbors. We would greatly appreciate your assistance in encouraging people to attend the meeting who might be interested in learning about the project and providing input and suggestions for the CMP. This is the first of several meetings that will be held over the course of this planning effort.  Individuals, businesses, elected officials, residents and all interested parties are encouraged to attend and participate at the public meeting on May 12th.

Thank you for your interest and participation in the development of the Scenic Byway Corridor Plan for Select Historic Long Island Parkways and we look forward to seeing you on May 12th. If you are unable to attend, but have questions or would like to submit comments about the Scenic Byway Corridor Management Plan for Select Historic Long Island Parkways, you can send them by mail to:
