Meet at The Maples for a journey to Area 51 and more...
The route visits Mill Road, the Golf Course and 51 Hill. After that fun, it's a time trial down Route 51 to the climb past the Shrine, and up to the antenna hill - the Col de RCN.
We'll have a slightly lower pace on this ride, so others can join.
In keeping with the Area 51 tradition, we'll do this ride non-stop, except for some regroups.
Time to do some rolling terrain and hills to get ready for the Bloomin' Metric and the RxR Century!
Join me for this C ride, which will average 11.2 - 11.7; no one gets dropped and we will be observing spacing rules, etc. Ride route will be determined by the road conditions; decision to be made the morning of the ride; no cue sheets. The number of riders is limited, so if you want to ride, text me (631-523-2129) with your SBRA Member Number and Emergency Contact phone number. I will respond to your text and let you know if you have a spot on the ride. Once the ride is filled, I will change to post to indicate that.

Forecast is quite good for Thursday, so we are adding this last minute ride to Quogue. Come join us on this scenic, mostly flat and beautiful ride that heads out from the Speonk to Quogue and the surrounding areas. This is a shorter variation of the ride (longer version will be listed later in the season). Please note that we will meet in the parking lot on the east side of Phillips Avenue.
We will not be making a stop to buy lunch during the ride, but there will be a number of stops along the way, so please bring food you may want or need as well as sufficient hydration. Most importantly bring an upbeat inquisitive attitude ready to explore and discover.
To join the ride or if you have questions, please text Bill Mastro at 917-921-5358. I usually send a final ridewithgps file out to those that text me. Any updates or weather issues will be posted to the ride listing by 7:30 on the day of the ride.
The route will be shared later, but expect some additional climbing. Get ready to push yourself and strengthen your legs for our weekly strength-building ride. This will help improve your climbing skills. There will be waitups and Soft Peddles at the top of hills. Cordwood will be included in this ride! I initially rated it as a B+, but be prepared for a possible A-/B+ level of effort.
Please text me by 1pm on the day of the ride to confirm and text you the route.
The SBRA May General Meeting will be held as an "IN PERSON" meeting, on Thursday, May 2nd at 7:00 pm. Please join us for this IN PERSON meeting for a chance to see some of your fellow SBRA members that you may not have seen for a while.
Guest Speaker:
Learn how to become more fit, upgrade your cycling ability, and reach your riding goals by adjusting the time that you spend on your bike.
Come to SBRA’s May meeting to hear a national champion (a certified coach and former teacher) discuss the evolution of aerobic training, learn about current training theory, and to find out how you can reorganize your riding schedule to maximize its training benefits.
Please bring paper and a pencil to this surprisingly easy-to-understand and upbeat workshop as you will leave the meeting with a customized training blueprint.
Pls note route and mileage has changed. Several people have time constraints issues (including me) so I changed the route and shortened the mileage. We should be back by noon. Here's the new route. I'll make one small change on the fly because of a bridge closure. We'll do the Briermere 64 another time.
SSM to Briermere Metric. Route has now been posted. This is part of my B+ Century Training program. We'll ride out to Iron Pier Beach (with Northville tanks along the way) and then stop at Briermere Farm for a quick break before heading back. No one gets dropped. Wait-ups as needed.
Call or txt if you plan to join or if you have any questions (347-922-3824). If I don't hear from anyone, I may cancel ride. Check posting before leaving.
This will be an easy C ride around Center Moriches, that will average 11.5 - 12 and will be taking our break at Nettie's. There are some very nice water views along the way. No one gets dropped and we will be observing spacing rules, etc. Since the exact route will be determined as we go along, there will not be a cue sheet.
The number of riders is limited, so if you want to ride, text me (631-523-2129) with your SBRA Member Number and Emergency Contact phone number. I will respond to your text and let you know if you have a spot on the ride. Once the ride is filled, I will change to post to indicate that.
MEETING LOCATION: straight back from Wendy's and Dunkin Donuts, on the EAST SIDE of the shopping center.
Riders should arrive at least 15 minutes before the ride start, to allow enough time for me to get everyone signed in and to "get yourself" ready
The Intercept and the Breakaway. Looking for a few riders to join me on riding to Brian Tooles Calverton 41 at 9am. This ride to the Ride is about 12 miles. We will then ride Brian's 9am ride the Calverton 41 with the Breakaway happening at David Terry RD (haha My Road) the return to YFH is about 7 miles in return.
Greg Wuest did this on Tuesday and it was very Intriguing to me.
Well let's continue this training series and get to some serious miles: 69. Will we have anyone to run with?...https://youtu.be/4y5Q9fMTWKY
So, we'll leave the Kreb Cycle in Eastport for a paceline ride out to Bridgehampton. The Kreb Cycle parking lot is down an alleyway behind the shop, and remember to park in the northwest corner of the lot!
The routebuilds on the previous rides, but takes us farther East. We'll probably have a food stop at the Citarella in Bridgehampton at around 39 miles, before we turn around and head our way back West. Along the way East, we'll have a rest stop, and we'll slow down if people are getting dropped in the Shinnecock Hills.
It looks like we'll have winds from the East for most of the ride, so maybe we'll have a tailwind to push us home! Since the distance is getting up there, let's put in an extra effort to keep everyone together; there is nothing worse than having to play catch-up when you're tired and sore!
This is going to be the same ride as Bernie and Bill normally do during mid-week. The pace is going to be B- and same route as the B&B ride normally follows. We are not going to push it any faster than B&B would normally do as it is still very early in the season and we are all easing back into riding.
Check the ride calendar day of ride for cancellations. Any Cancellations will be posted by 7:15am
This ride of 12-18 miles is listed as a C- but will go at the pace of the slowest rider which may be higher. Anyone can participate but be aware it may be a SLOW ride. This ride is hills 101. We ride to the Setauket lighthouse (where we have our snack) and back. There is no bathroom on this ride. Doing this ride over the weeks makes us stronger on hills and on the flats. We ride together on the flatter sections and when we get to the hills we take them at our own pace and meet up at the top. New hill riders are welcome. Any questions, please text me at 631-835-1454.
Please let me know if you're coming on the ride (text above). If there are no takers, I will leave from home. Any change or cancellation will be posted by 7:30am morning of ride.

Ok, the intercept and Breakaway has been successful and gonna continue this. Should we get to many riders for the Calverton 41 (Brian Toole ride) we will (My Group) start the ride a minute before the Calverton 41. I have designed a 65 mile route but based off of Wind and Legs we can cut it back to 56 miles. Prepare for 65 miles but understand we can reduce it to 56 miles.
To better assist the Breakaway my group will fall to the back of the Paceline after Halsey Manor Rd but before David Terry Rd. I don't want to create any confusion at that Intersection for Brian's Group. That worked Great this Past Saturday.
It iooks like we may have a break in this rain! But in case it changes again, NO GO IF IT'S RAINING!
PLEASE NOTE THE RIDE START TIME: 8:30 AM !

A steady 41 glorious miles on pristine roads (24/51/111) Changed from an A- to A class pace to reflect the ride; not turning up the heat--hope to see you.
As a rule, I believe in finishing at the average I post. Like a number of other ride levels the frequent members of this ride are getting faster; therefore, while this is posted as a B-, riders should know that we have been riding at the top range of a B- and frequently dipping into the B range.

The pace of this ride will depend on how many riders show up on such short notice. This is a true B/B+ Paceline ride. We will have a snack break on S.I. A break in Greenport on the way back, and of course a rest on the 2 ferry rides. Bring cash for the ferry.
This will be an easy spin ride from The Maples to Riverhead, with a stop at the bagel shop. We may do a little easy paceline work, so everyone can save some energy.
We'll keep this one at a controlled pace, to save our legs for the Bloomin' Metric !
The stop will be at around 19.7 miles, so pack some water and snacks for the ride!
Scenic ride out to Orient State Park. This is the first in a series of centuries I plan to do this summer. This is also a training ride for a double century ride planned for June 22 (weather permitting).
I am planning to make 3 stops along the way (Mattituck, Orient and Cutchogue) for hydration, restrooms and lunch but this may change as "nature" calls. Avg speed should be on the low to mid point of B+ range but this is always subject to change based on weather conditions.
Please pack proper hydration (at least 2 water bottles), food to eat along the way (Cliff Bars, trail mix, GU packs, etc), some $$ for lunch and a cell phone.
I will try to keep the group together and my intent is not to drop anyone; however, based on past experience, some riders may not be able to finish the full century for various reasons (muscle cramping, heat exhaustion, mechanical issues, etc.). In this case, please have a back-up plan to get yourself home (spouse, friend or Uber).
If anyone has questions, please call or txt me (347-922-3824).
Let's get a quick 65 miles in from Yaphank Fire House. This is a road ride early Start and after ride I will be Cooking Hot Dogs and Hamburgers with some Macaroni and Potato salad after the ride. We will be leaving the bank heading to Babylon. There will be a break at McDonlds around mile 20. This is a B- ride that will average around 14.5 - 15 mph with road speeds that will reach 16 to 19 mph.
Going to Great River. Just a little slower, well maybe a lot slower than Howard. I would like to come in between 14.8 and 14.9 mph +/- a tad. Last minute post to see Bethpage Air Show at Jones Beach. Weather seems to be getting better after 11am. We'll be taking the Ocean Parkway Greenway. The show is from 10am-3pm but, if I recall correctly, the Blue Angels (headliner) fly around the middle to end of the show. Very easy pace.
There is probably a fee to park at Captree today. I'm not sure how much but its well worth seeing this spectacular show. If you have very sensitive ears, I suggest bringing ear plugs. Sometimes those jets fly right over our heads and when those afterburners kick in it gets very LOUD.
Call or txt if you have any questions (347-922-3824)
