NOTE:
Under the Ride Level details, the "Type: Road Bike" refers to the ride will be on paved roads (rather then off road trails). Although a Road Bike is suggested for Road Bike Type rides it is not required. Hybrid and mountain bikes can be used on these rides as well provided you are comfortable with the pace outline in the Posted Ride. This ride calendar is for club rides, club meetings, club event posts and shop rides only.
For Other Events in our area and off Long Island check out the "Other Rides & Events calendar" and the "Forums"
To go more quickly back or forward "several" months click the "Year" link here or at the top of page.
Note the start is at Brookhaven State Park across from Whiskey Road East end.
This will be a Begineer/Intermediate ride! There are virtually no Black Diamonds on this trail.
I will ride as slow as the slowest rider.
First time at Shoreham this year so there maybe short stops for trail clearing.
If no begineers call or show than figure this to be a SLOW Intermediate ride
Text me at 631-988-6557 if you plan to ride with me and I will wait at the start if you're running late otherwise if no one contacts me I may start riding early!
Check back to this posting before leaving for the ride as Life Happens and Things Change.
This will be an easy C ride around Center Moriches, that will average 11.5 - 12 and will be taking our break at Nettie's. There are some very nice water views along the way. No one gets dropped and we will be observing spacing rules, etc. Since the exact route will be determined as we go along, there will not be a cue sheet.
The number of riders is limited, so if you want to ride you must text me (631-523-2129) with your SBRA Member Number and Emergency Contact phone number. I will respond to your text and let you know if you have a spot on the ride. Once the ride is filled, I will change to post to indicate that.
MEETING LOCATION: straight back from Wendy's and Dunkin Donuts, on the EAST SIDE of the shopping center.
Riders should arrive at least 15 minutes before the ride start, to allow enough time for me to get everyone signed in and to "get yourself" ready.
Off to Netties, where you can enjoy soup with a roll, baked treats, and indoor and outdoor seating areas. To join this ride, text Bill G. at 631-356-3036 with your full name and ride destination. Check for changes the day of the ride, which would be posted by 08:00am.
This will a paceline training ride, where we will be doing laps of the 6.25 mile Time Trial loop. So, doing the numbers, that works out to 6 laps, plus riding to and from the start to get our mileage.
The Plan is to ride 5 laps at a strong pace and then slow down and do one easy cooldown lap. The fifth lap will be the all-in "Bell Lap", where you can push it to get to the finish, but don't forget the sprint to the Llama farm! For most of the ride, the group will stay together and if someone goes to the front of the paceline and jacks-up the pace, the group may counter-attack that rider for disturbing the ride flow! Bear in mind, B+ rides should have a 17 to 18 MPH average, with a max. cruising speed of 19 to 21 MPH. So 21 MPH should be our max. speed except downhill/downwind or in that last lap sprint!
Since, this is a training ride you may get dropped! That's where the beauty of this loop comes-in, you can either ride by yourself, or take the Line Road shortcut to catch back up!
There are a few rules to remember for this ride:
There is only one ride leader on this ride.
This is a paceline ride; you may be passed on the right or on the left. IF this makes you uncomfortable, DON'T COME ON THIS RIDE, you could cause an accident.
If you are in a bad mood and want to curse at riders or the Ride Leader, DON'T COME ON THIS RIDE, you will be thrown off the ride.
If you want to argue about how the ride is run or riding technique, DON'T COME ON THIS RIDE, you will be thrown off the ride.
This will be a C ride, which will average 11.5 - 12. The exact route will be determined at the start. Wherever we go there will be a bathroom stop & a food break. Since nothing is certain until we start, there will not be a cue sheet for this ride.
NOTE: I am limiting the number of riders on my rides, so you must text me with your name, SBRA Member Number, and Emergency Contact Phone Number if you want to ride, I will return the text: YES, you have a spot; NO, ride is filled. CELL #: 631-523-2129.
With a 50% or greater chance of rain Sunday and temperatures projected in the low 50s, the ride is moved up to Saturday so we can RELAX on the rocking chairs on the cabins deck.
Let's ride from Southaven to Netties again where we will take our break either on their outdoor porch or inside the cabin where we can enjoy the warmth of their fireplace.
Paceline ride group stays together. Wait ups or stops for those that fall behind.
Note: If you are facing Kreb's shop, the entrance to the parking lot is to the left of the shop. Park in the area in the far left back of the lot. Off to the Quogue Preserve, with some mileage on Dune Road. Restroom stops coming and going, and at the preserve. Bring snacks and drinks for scenic stops. To join this ride, text Bill G. at 631-356-3036 with your full name and ride destination. Check the ride calendar the day of the ride for changes, which would be posted by 08:00am.
Not sure if the weather will cooperate, like all my rider friends do. But if it's not cancelled or switched to MTB ride due to rain or cold temps respectively, then both will be B+/A- pace.
Please check here on Monday morning at 7am to see if cancelled or changed.
Join me for this C ride, which will average 11.2 - 11.7; no one gets dropped and we will be observing spacing rules, etc. Ride route will be determined by the road conditions; decision to be made the morning of the ride; no cue sheets. We will either head to Blue Point or to the Smith Point Marina for our break; there will be a bathroom stop.
The number of riders is limited, so if you want to ride you must text me (631-523-2129) with your SBRA Member Number and Emergency Contact phone number. I will respond to your text and let you know if you have a spot on the ride. Once the ride is filled, I will change to post to indicate that.
Park in the back left hand side of the parking lot. Library will be open so bathroom available.
This will not be a fast ride, I haven't been riding and it's cold. Came in at 13.4 on Saturday.
Very scenic around Strongs Neck, rollers out to the lighthouse for a break, then a hill over mt Grey and to the beach.
Nowhere to buy food so bring your own. There should be a bathroom at the beach but don't bank on it.

Figure this to be a SLOW Intermediate ride ... I plan to skip CR83 South and Hunters Path but include the Ridges and maybe more BDs. I WILL adjust the distance and diamonds based on who shows up.
Text me at 631-988-6557 if you plan to ride with me and I will wait at the start if you're running late otherwise if no one contacts me I may start riding early!

This will be our weekly normal Mi Tierrita ride to the Smithspoint Beach, unless it is extremely cold or windy in that we will detour to the Smithpoint Marina. The ride will be a B pace and should average around 15.5.
Please check ride calendar morning of in case of ride cancellation. Lastly any and all help in pulling is greatly appreciated.
This will be a B- ride. Expect an average between 14.0 and 15.0 It's getting cold and I need to slow down a bit. In order to get this average the road speeds will be between 15.0 and 16.0 mph. The main objective is to finish the ride without being too concerned about the average. The average will depend mainly on the wind, the hills, and who shows up. We will stay together and there will be one or two break-a-ways for those who want. We will take a break at the Marina. A quick rest stop at Wertheim about mile 10. Pulls would be appreciated.
After the ride Eduardo has invited us in for some GOOD Stuff.

Should be around 32 miles in total. Bring your Phone to take Pictures. Weather looks to be in the 40's and west wind of about 5mph.
Front and Back Lights are Required for this ride!
This is a must Sign up by Friday 12pm noon.
After Ride we can Grab a Slice of Pizza and Warm UP
Meet at the lot across from the Maples for a Thunderbird paceline ride to Cupsogue. This will be a new route!
The outbound run will take us through Eastport and downhill past the Casa Basso. Everyone stays together and rides like a team until Dune Road, which will be a do it at your own pace. After a stop at the Beach, we'll head back through Westhampton Beach and up Old Country Road through Eastport. Then it's back to Manorville via Head of the Neck and Clancy, leading us eventually to South Street and Silas Carter.
Let's work together and avoid jacking-up the pace! When you get to the front of the paceline, maintain the pace that the group was moving at. It hurts the rider pulling off the front if you to jack-up the pace; they just pulled you along and they need time to recover!
SO, let's have a fun ride before Winter closes-in!
A slightly hilly ride to Copenhagen Bakery in Northport via Vanderbilt rollers in Dix Hills. Approx 1900 ft of climbing over 41 miles. Food/Hydration/Rest Room stop at Copenhagen Bakery at approx mile 25. No one gets dropped - wait-ups after big climbs.
Off to Briermere's, with a brief viewing stop of an American Bison farm (hopefully the Bison will be in a field viewable from the road). If enough riders are interested, we can split the cost of a pie. Individually sized baked goods are available, as is coffee. Briermere's has indoor restrooms, and outside picnic tables. To join the ride, text Bill G at 631-356-3036 with your full name and ride destination. Check the ride calendar the day of the ride for changes, which would be posted by 07:45am.
Join me for this C ride, which will average 11.2 - 11.9; no one gets dropped and we will be observing spacing rules, etc. Ride route will be determined by the road conditions; decision to be made the morning of the ride; no cue sheets. We will either head to Blue Point for the bathrooms at the Library, and then take our break at the Atlantic Ave. Deli; or to the Smith Point Marina, with a bathroom beak at Wertheim.
The number of riders is limited, so if you want to ride you must text me (631-523-2129) with your SBRA Member Number and Emergency Contact phone number. I will respond to your text and let you know if you have a spot on the ride. Once the ride is filled, I will change to post to indicate that.
Come join us on this scenic, mostly flat and beautiful ride that heads out from the Speonk train station to Quogue and the surrounding areas. I'm planning on leading a ride to Netties every weekend until Spring weather permitting. There is a nice warm wood heated cabin there for us to chill in during our break. The posts will be for Sunday and moved up to Saturday for better weather if necessary.
Paceline ride group stays together. Wait ups or stops for those that fall behind.
Today's’ route to Great River will change up a bit towards the end of the ride - if the wind is in our favor; making this route pretty flat except for 2 overpasses. We will go the usual route heading south using the Connetquot Park bike bath. We’ll work our way down to Heckscher Park .I would like to keep the road speed between 16 - 17.5 mph and come in at an average Hi 15 and Lo 16. Good stuff after the ride.
Note: Facing Kreb's shop the parking lot entrance is to the left of the shop, park in the left upper part of the lot.The ride will have a rest/bathroom stop at mile 10, than head out to Dune Road for scenic ocean views at Hot Dog Beach ( bring snacks and drinks for our stops). The ride continues with some scenic stops in Quogue, than heads up to the Quogue Preserve, which has restrooms and waterbottle fillers. We than go to a Pocket Park in WHB, which is near a 7-11 and a bakery, if you wish to pick up a snack. Restrooms are available in WHB. From WHB it is 7 miles back to our cars. To join this ride, text Bill G. at 631-356-3036, with your full name and ride destination. Strong winds or flooding on Dune Road can shorten our mileage and slow our speed. Check for changes the day of the ride, which would be posted by 08:00am.
Please text if you are joining me. If no one responds, I'll leave from home. My cell is 631-835-1454.
Hoping for company on this mostly flat ride to the lake. We'll stop at the Ronkonkoma RR station for the bathrooms about mile 20. Let's stretch our legs while the weather cooperates.
Any changes or cancellation will be posted by 8am morning of ride.
Join me for this ride from Calverton, where we will ride on the back roads around Manorville. We will either go up to Wildwood Park and stop at the deli outside the park, or go to Bean & Bagel for our break - both locations have food and a bathroom are available.
This is a C+ ride, which will average 11.9 - 12.7, depending on the winds, etc. The exact route will be determined at the start, so there willnot be a cue sheet for this ride.

This is a controlled ride out to Briermere Farms. This will be a relatively easy ride, so strong B- riders are welcome and should have no problem on this ride.
We'll keep everyone together, so no one is left out in the wind. On the final section up County Ride 105 to Briermere, everyone can ride at their own pace to the break! The rest of the ride the group will stay together.
We'll have a short break at Briermere at around 18 miles. We don't want to stop for too long, otherwise we'll get cold.
Help pulling into the wind will be appreciated, just don't drop the group.
This C+ ride of 18-23 miles will average 11.5-12.5mph. Bring snack/hydration as route depends on wind, tide, position of moon and ride leaders disposition. Just show up 15-20 minutes before ride start to get your s**t together.
Let's head out to Briermere Farms before they close for the Winter on December 17th,where we will take a break to enjoy their coffee, muffins, scones or pies if anyone gets really hungry. Bathroom is available.
Paceline ride, everyone stays together. Slowdowns or stops for anyone who falls behind.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
Not much changed: The Upper lot may be closed ... so park at the bottom ... I'll ride up the road and use the trail when going up to ride the end of the ride.
This will be a MIXED trail ride ... Starting at the upper lot we'll ride North-West across the field to the fire road that intersects the trail before the Out of Bound hills. We'll work on the hills and finish with some of the early BDs (and all those roots ;-( ).
Text me at 631-988-6557 if you plan to ride with me and I will wait at the start if you're running late otherwise if no one contacts me I may start riding early!

MVH in effect. Need to be to work so 8AM start. Look at it this way......................... we"ll be up before the ticks.......and out before the rain.
The weather looks good through around 1:00 PM or so!. So it looks good for completing the full distance!
Some of us will be riding with tired legs, so the average will be at the lower end of the B+ range or perhaps even down into the B/B+ zone if it gets very windy!-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It looks like this will be a mild day for December! So join the Thunderbirds for a rockin' down the highway https://youtu.be/kTZbSNOptd0 paceline ride !
We will leave from the lot across from The Maples, and we'll use the north route to reach Dune Road - which is practically deserted! Along the way, we'll paceline along County Road (CR) 24 and 104; do the climb up CR 31 past the airport and hit Dune Road. On Dune Road, you're free to ride at your own pace, but save some legs for the return!
After a short stop at Cupsogue Beach at the end oif Dune Road, we'll start our return with an optional stop at the Beach Bakery. Then it's Old Country Road, Head of the Neck, Chapman, South St. and the finishing run up Silas Carter/ Ryerson.
Going to Great River. I would like to come in between 14.4 and 14.9 mph +/- a tad. In order to get this average we will be doing road speeds between 15.0 and 16.0 mph. Expect down hills and wind at your back to be faster. We will take a break at the bagel shop about mile 20. Things could change slightly due to road conditions and wind direction.Pulling is always appreciated. There is NO reason to sign up ahead of time. Just show up 20 minutes before the ride. Please check for any changes the morning of the ride. If it's too cold, or too windy (for me) it will be cancelled. If you have any questions, or concerns please text me at 631.484.3490. John and Robin are off to Florida for a month so I will be filling in on the Hill Ride. The usual wait-ups and the Forge River included. Hope to see you there!
Calverton is probably one of the best places to learn how to Mtn Bike BUT you need a DEC Access/Parking Permit ... here's how to get one (must be on business days!): https://www.sbraweb.org/node/6490 .
