SEVERAL CHANGES: I CHANGED the location of this ride to KK in CENTER MORICHES because we won't ever have to be any further that 5 miles from the the parking lot in case of rain. I ALSO CHANGED THE TIME TO 8:00 am to try to squeeze the ride in. Daylight Savings time should make it a bit easier to get up early. WE MAY NOT GO TO MANORVILLE SO THAT WE STAY CLOSER TO THE CAR. HOPEFULLY THE RAIN HOLDS OFF. Any cancellations will be done by 6:30 am. This ride will stay in the Moriches and Eastport area with Manorville if the rain holds off. We will aim for 15.0 -15.9 mph depending on the winds. Nobody gets dropped.
Watching the weather report. Right now ride start changed to 8:30 to see if we can ride before the rain. Check back by 6:30 am for final decision if the ride will be a go or no go.
Park in overflow lot. Stop at Bellport Deli. Looks like an east wind to start so hopefully wind at our backs on return. Always check back for any changes or cancellations due to weather or other reasons.

First time in Overton this year so I posted this as a B ride. We'll skip at least one of the Black Diamonds to leave it as a goal to do next time. There are waitups near the entry of most of the diamonds so we'll do some and if you're not up to it you shouldn't push yourself beyond your limit.
Subscribe to this ride posting and get an update within an hour of my changes or check back to this posting before leaving for the ride as Nothing is Permanent ... Life Happens and Things Change ...
No need to arrive 20 minutes early and overheat in the car ... just try to be there in time to be ready to start at the Start Time.
Running late? Pull off the road and call my cell list below ..... we’ll wait but make you feel bad about it later ;-) …

There are a few places along the route where leg stretches can be done for those who wish to do so. There is no obligation for anyone to do this; you can hang back with me.
Please check the ride calendar for any weather, or last minute cancellations which will be posted no later than 8:00am, if necessary. My cell number is 631.484.3490; call or text me anytime if you have questions about the ride

Newbies always welcome and well taken care of and nobody gets left behind. Be there or be square. Cancellation for any reason will be posted by 9:00am.
Changed the start time a bit as it will be cooler than anticipated. Not really cold yet though ...
We had to cut short after the first two diamonds due to this week's rain but this time the weather looks good ... first time this year doing GR so it would be a good time for beginners and intermediate riders to come along. NO ONE gets dropped in the woods and we'll adjust which diamonds we do based on who shows. NO ONE will be pushed to do more than they feel comfortable with riding. There are plenty of wait up locations and GR has a basic loop and some pretty "simple" single Black Diamonds.
Make sure to check back to this posting before leaving for the ride ...as Life Happens and Things Change!!.

Departing Veteran's park we will head out to McDonald's in Manorville at about mile 15. Our route will be a combination of roads and the paved Grumman trail. On my ride on River Road on 11/8, which parallels the trail, it appeared that the trail was free of tumbleweed. This ride is listed as a C+/B-, but pace could be lowered if the wind speed is high. For info: contact Bill G. at 631-356-3036. Check the ride calendar the day of the ride for changes, which would be posted by 07:45am.
Join me for this C+ ride from Sayville to Bellport, where we'll stop at the Bellport dock to view the Great South Bay. Either bring a snack or you may purchase something in Bellport on the way to the dock.
This is a structured ride which will average 12.4 - 12.8, depending on wind, riders, etc. There will be cue sheets and no one will be dropped.
NOTE: Park on the South Side of the train station, across the street.
Depending on wind, tide, position of moon and ride leaders disposition we will ride approx. 20ish miles at an 10-11.5 average speed. As always newbies always welcome and NOBODY gets left behind. So get off your butt, and lets ride for some exercise. Cancellation for any reason will be posted by 9:00AM. Anyone for pizza at the rides end?

This will be a "Bill type" ride except for the start time (THANKS Fred! ;-) and the fact that I can't whistle like Bill. Depending who shows I plan going a bit slower than Fred right from the start but will hang with Fred's group for a bit if I'm lonely. Anyone who wants to do half the ride with Fred's group and join me on the other half is welcome by me to do so and I think Fred would be of the same mind set.
Check back to this posting before leaving for the ride as Life Happens and Thing Change!
Running late to the start? PULL OVER and call my cell listed below .... I'll wait at the start but make you feel bad about it ;-) ...

I have checked the route and there is much flooding, puddles and a ton of wet leaves all over the ground. For safety reasons I think it would be best if this ride was CANCELLED.

Note: If it rains in the morning the ride might be moved to the afternoon depending on the forecast.

Another first timer for this year so it won't be a fast ride ... might as well get into the hills early and hope to develop more power as the season progresses. This place has a love-hate relationship as it's nice and quiet but SO much work ;-).
Hopefully MH drains as well from the Monday night/Tuesday early rain ... This is not a highly technical trail so come along and let's work together.
Be sure to check back to this posting late Tuesday night or before leaving for the ride as Life Happens and Things Change!
Running late to the start? PULL OVER! and call my cell listed below.
We will be leaving Back of American in East Islip heading to Great River and East Islip area. Then we will head to Islip Beach. Please bring your snacks and drinks for this ride. Any questions call Mike at 516 448-8545

UPDATE – 11/14/2019 – 5:30pm - I am going to cancel the ride because 35 degrees is too cold for me. Instead I shall sleep late, build a fire and have a hot chocolate. The weekend looks warmer.

Will meet at Overton East and hopefully ride that trail ... IF it's too muddy (i.e. rut producing) I will head over to BSP. I plan to do all the diamonds, including #5 (which I always miss by mistake) and Wild Turkey Loop (great downhill berm! ;-) BUT I will not yet do the Rock Pile or the steep drop of More Wild Turkey's Here.
Overton has a number of diamonds that are do-able by Intermediate riders ... Got 6 Minutes, BD #1, #2, #5, #6 (maybe ;-). There are waitups and the BD's always loop back to the Blue main.
Let's hope the trail is quiet and ...

Running late? PULL OVER and call my cell below ... we'll wait but make you feel lousy about it ...
-------------------------------------- Original Post ------------------------------------------------------
Sorry for the indecision. Watch for a posting after 5 tomorrow ...
Watching the results of the weather. The possible venue has changed. It's going to be Overton or Brookhaven State Park. If we go to Overton and the trail is too wet I will get in my car and ride (20 minutes) to BSP (and hope you come along ;-).
East Setauket will NOT be dry enough to protect the trail.
Overton is easier to reach on a weekend than on a weekday; Overton has a fertilizer plant on the east and a scrap metal plant on the west ... noisy except for Sundays .
Check back for another update later.
Check back to this posting before leaving for the ride as Life Happens and Things Change.
Please park in the lot located on the north side of the station. The entrance is located at Parkside Blvd & Veterans Blvd. No permit is required in this parking lot. There's an entrance to the trail behind the parking lot.
This ride is mostly flat...with some hills, especially the closer we get to Plainview. Since this is a shared bike path with pedestrians and other riders, a C+ should be a reasonable pace. There will be a break in Bethpage Park before heading towards Plainview via the Bethpage Bikeway in Plainview. Please bring ample snacks/water since there won't be a food stop. There may be a possibility that the mileage can be increased to 24 miles.
It's off to Manorville. The average pace for the ride will be between 14.6 to 15.0 mph +/- depending on the roads, wind direction, rider ability or other conditions. Naturally, the road speed will be higher (15 -16.5 mph.) to produce the average. A rest/ food stop at McDonald’s or the bagel shop is on the schedule around mile 12.
No bathroom at Westbury HS ride start (there is a gas station on 25 just east of the H.S. & tressell walk bridge). If needed, I suggest you make a pit stop before you arrive. PLEASE BE FLEXIBLE, I'm slowing it down because of the possible messy roads & cold, personally I'm not a fan of cold. We are enjoying the ride & views. Jim Flanagan & I are working on a new route including some of my favorite places to ride on Nassau's Gold Coast. Front & back lights are highly recommended. A short rest stop about midway. My cell 631 922-0632 Please check in for any last minute changes.
May be another windy day, so I've changed the ride to go west from Bellport to Corey Beach. We will be able to duck out of the wind here and there, and hopefully have the wind to our back on the return leg of the ride. We will make a bathroom and deli stop along the way, as well has have a few views of the Great South Bay.
This will be a low paced C+ ride, which will average 12.2 - 12.6.
Mileage, speed and route will depend on wind and road conditions. Be sure to check for changes the day of the ride, which would be posted by 08:00am. For info: contact Bill G. at 631-356-3036. Note change---- With low winds, the ride could be a long as 31 miles. With 10-15mph winds, expect a few less miles. I do not object to some pulling help on windy rides.
Will stay warm on some hills and take in the views at both Long and Short beach. Haven't done this ride in a looooong time, so ride will likely come in close to the 13 avg. Please...this is not a "race" ride, but there will be places for folks to ride ahead at their pace. We'll regroup after hill stretches so no one gets left behind.
an opportunity to climb some hills as we ride to northport and the copenhagen bakery! b+/a group will be doing the same route so MY b+ group will be your safety net. this is a hilly ride, but doable for all riders, just at a different pace inviting other ride leaders to post rides out of this ride start and customize the route to their liking. OR... create your own hill ride as the north shore does not have a shortage of climbs. parking lot festivities after the ride may include tailgating or a visit to "soul brew". call/msg me with questions or concerns....... https://ridewithgps.com/routes/28885363?privacy_code=Lt9Fl6va5SeA7LCI
Riding Ron's route at a slightly harder pace. We'll try to keep a steady effort that avoids hill top wait-ups and keeps us moving along. We'll stop at the Copenhagen Bakery and have the best fresh pasteries before Ron's group arives. Than we head back to St. James for Ron's Wild Turkey Parking Lot Jubilee. Please check the route posted below-better yet put it on your bike computer for navigation. If there's one ride you don't want to miss; it's this one! Rain and bad weather cancel this ride. Check back before heading out.
Time change! Every degree matters & I'm hoping for some sun. Looks like light winds so that's a plus. I'm so not a fan of the cold, so please bare with me. Riding has been scarce these days. I'm just glad to be in the saddle even if it's chilled. The Sassafras route we do is TBD depending on the groups desires. I may drop the pace to a BB+. Please check in for any last minute changes. My cell 631 922-0632
Today's’s route to Great River will change up a bit towards the end of the ride, if the wind is in our favor; making this route pretty flat except for 2 overpasses. We will go the usual route heading south using the Connetquot Park bike bath. We’ll work our way down to Heckscher Park, do a loop where one can stretch the legs a bit if desired.
The average pace for this ride will be between 14.5 & 15.0 +/- mph, or what conditions allow. The road speed will be between 15 and 16.5 mph, or slower if needed for safety concerns.
We’ll be making a rest stop around mile 19 at the deli/bakery. The route back will be determined by the wind direction. Good Stuff after the Ride. Not sure what good stuff; it's always a surprise.
Any cancellations due to unforeseeable circumstances, or weather related problems will be posted by 8:00am. If you have any questions about this ride, or the start location, please call or text my cell, 631-484-3490.
Join me for a ride around Holbrook, Ronkonkoma, and Bohemia, then down to Sayville and back up to Ronkonkoma and the ride start. We will take our break at the Gourmet Bagel Co. on Lakeland Ave., where beverages, food, and a bathroom are available. Adjustments to the route direction may be made due to the prevailing winds.
This will be a C+ ride which will average 12.5 - 12.9 and there will be cue sheets.
Depending on wind, tide and position of moon we will ride approx. 15-20 miles at a 10-11.5 mph pace from Ronk station. Be ready to roll at posted time with water, fully inflated tires and helmet. Newbies always welcome and well taken care of and nobody gets left behind. Be there or be square. Cancellation for any reason will be posted by 9:00am.
Mileage and speed will depend on road and wind conditions and will be adjusted accordingly. The ride will go along the North shore of Peconic Bay, head up to Cutchogue, and will break for lunch at Braun's Seaford in Cutchogue. Braun's has soups and wraps, and adjacent to Braun's is Scoops and Grinds, if you would prefer coffee or ice cream. If the winds are relatively calm, mileage could be as high as 37, otherwise as low as 30. Depending on the weather, the ride could be totally changed or cancelled, so you must check the ride calendar. Any changes would be posted by 08:00am.
Not sure of exact route or mileage right now but likely somewhere between 20-25. Haven't been to Bean and Bagel for awhile so let's go there and enjoy some good food. Park across from the Maples Bar. Always check back for changes or cancellation which would be posted by 7:30 am.
RAIN SHOULD BE OUT OF THE AREA BY 10 , SO I AM MOVING THE RIDE START TIME TO 11:00!

This will be a C+/B- ride, which will average 13.7 - 14.2, with cue sheets, and no one will be left behind. I will do my best to adjust the route so we have the wind to our back.
Glacier Ridge has good accessability during the work week.
We'll do a change up of the typical route by starting with CR83 North followed by CR83 South, run to Gotta Do the Ridges and Foxhole; do the Darkside of the Moon AND the Extension, Hunters Path and finish with White Ghost. Next time we'll cross Rt 112.

Plan on doing the Intermediate trail unless everyone in the group wants to do the north (i.e. more Advanced) trail. Check back to this posting before leaving for the ride as Life Happens and Things Change.

We’ll be riding from Stony Brook to Miller Place along North Country. There will be some hills, but we’re patient. Looking for a fairly low-key ride, cruising in the 14’s. Bagel stop around mile 20. Saturday 4pm: Am watching this weather system that's supposed move through quickly tonight. If roads are still soaked early a.m., I will push this ride to late morning and let things dry out. Check back here by 8:15am Sunday for updates...will see what the morning skies bring!
We'll travel scenic backroads thru the Stonybrook-Setauket area. For those familiar with the Wed Nite Roller Coaster, this will be some of that route but we'll start by heading up Lower Sheep Pasture and come out over near Poquott. Will pick up the route in Setauket with a shortened route in Strong's Neck, then on to Old Field and West Meadow. There are hills, so the pace indicates that...there are places to stretch your legs ahead and wait ups after climbs. But please note this is not a "race ride". Soup or Green Cactus is an option for lunch after, if there is interest.
Brings snacks/water as our break will be on the route in Old Field and West Meadow. Bathrooms in Setauket if needed and at West Meadow (port-o-potty).

A steady B+ pace, 17-19 with average in low to mid-17s. New route will avoid the strong WSW winds as much as possible. Hills at East Bartlett and Ashton.
This will be a nice ride around the Holbrook area. The average pace for this ride will be between 14.0 & 15.0 mph; naturally the road speed will be higher to produce the average. We can all go for coffee and a bagel at the end of the ride and chat if you want.

Join me for this ride around Calverton and Manorville. At the time of posting this ride, it looks like it may be windy today, so this route will keep us on many roads that are not out in the open. A big portion of the ride will also include the new bike path, which has very little rider traffic and should be protected from the wind.
The ride will average 12.4 - 12.7, with cue sheets.
We will be leaving Bank of America and head to Great River and East Islip for a 20 mile ride. The ride will be at a B- pace with an average speed of around 14.5 to 15mph and road speeds that will reach 16 to 18mph.
Changes or cancelation will be posted by 12:30pm day of ride.
If you have any questions concerning this ride, call Mike at 516 448-8545.
This has been moved to Wednesday ... rain is forecast for early Tuesday morning ... too close for muddy conditions. Sorry if this messed up your plans.
The start location MAY be changed to Glacier Ridge parking with a ride directly to Eclipse and the trail to cross Rt. 112 to Overton ... check the posting after 5 on Tuesday or before leaving for the ride. I hate Overton noise during the week and riding from GR might provide a detour if the metal crusher is running.
Regardless, I plan to do all the diamonds, including #5 and Wild Turkey Loop (great downhill berm! ;-) ... I'd like to take a look at More Wild Turkey's Here to find a go around ... BUT I will not yet do the Rock Pile.
Overton has a number of diamonds that are do-able by Intermediate riders ... Got 6 Minutes, BD #1 & #5, (#6 maybe ;-). There are waitups and the BD's always loop back to the Blue main.
Let's hope the trail is quiet and ...

Running late? PULL OVER and call my cell below ... we'll wait but make you feel lousy about it ...
A note about speed: Let’s think about what the group can do comfortably. I really hate being a “speed cop,” so let’s all be aware of the pace, all the riders, and knock it back when appropriate.
Join me for this ride around Holbrook, Ronkonkoma, and Bohemia, then down to Sayville and back up to Holbrook and the ride start. We will take our break at the Gourmet Bagel Co. on Lakeland Ave., where beverages, food, and a bathroom are available. Route direction may be changed, depending on the winds.
This will be a C+ ride which will average 12.5 - 12.9 and there will be cue sheets.
Meet at the east end of the lot near the boardwalk to the lighthouse. We will be riding the beach as well as the mid island roads, walkways, and boardwalks depending on winds. Mid Island route blocks most of the wind. It's definitely off season so the Island will be deserted, we'll weave our way through the small towns and head east. Optimistically we'll reach Sailors Haven and get to ride the sunken forest boardwalk. Ultimately, distance will be by consensus. Nothing I know is open so bring all the supplies you'll need.
Donna was going to lead the ride but we both think it will be too windy; so the ride is cancelled.
Today's Mi Tierrita ride will be going to Smith’s Point or the Marina. The route is mostly flat with a small incline here and there and of course the Woodside (maybe) bigger incline. The average pace for the ride will be between 14.5 to 15.0 +/- mph, depending on the roads and wind direction. The road speed will be between 15 and 16.5 mph.
We'll stop along the way for a bathroom break around mile 10. Don’t forget to bring a snack. Do you know what AGUAPANELA is? Come and find out; PARKING: Use the area of the parking lot on the SOUTH side first.
Please check the ride calendar for any weather, or last minute cancellations which will be posted no later than 8:00 am if necessary. My cell number is 631.484.3490; call or text anytime if you have questions about the ride or need directions to the start...
Join me for this ride from Bellport to Corey Beach. If it is windy, we will be able to duck out of the wind here and there, and should have the wind to our back on the return leg of the ride. We will make a bathroom and deli stop along the way, as well has have a few views of the Great South Bay.
This will be a C+ ride, which will average 12.4 - 12.7.
Will stay warm on some hills and take in the views at both Long and Short beach. Looking to come in around 13.2 avg, given the hills. Please...this is not a "race" ride, but there will be places for folks to ride ahead at their pace. We'll regroup after hill stretches so no one gets left behind. Just a short break at each of the beaches, so bring a snack and water.
Check here by 8:30am on day of ride for any updates.
We will be leaving Bank of American in East Islip heading to Great River and East Islip area. Then we will head to Islip Beach. Please bring your snacks and drinks for this ride. Any questions call Mike at 516 448-8545

Join me for this C+ ride from Sayville to Bellport, where we'll stop at the Bellport dock to view the Great South Bay. Either bring a snack or you may purchase something in Bellport on the way to the dock. Destination may be changed due to wind direction.
