(bike-beach-brew) come join me, my co-ride leaders, and fellow sbra club members for a fun day on and off the bike. bring a change of clothes and some munchies for the brewery
Come join the fun on Rons Bike Beach Brew Ride. We will go to Smiths Point and loop around back and then to the Blue Point Brewery. Last time we all brought some kind of snack like chips, pretzels, and they do have a great food truck there where you can buy sandwiches and burgers. Even if you don't want to go to the brewery this is a great ride so come on down and see all your fellow SBRA friends.
Join us for a multi-level Bike-Beach-Brew ride where all rides will all end up back in Patchogue around the same time. After the ride we will go around the corner to the Blue Point Brewery where you may sample a cold one (or two), take a Beer Tour, and/or socialize with your friends. There was a Food Truck parked at the brewery last year, so you may purchase something from that, or you may bring snacks, a sandwich, etc. to consume while sampling their brews and sitting on their picnic table area. This will be a structured C+ ride, with an average of 12.3 - 12.8, with cue sheets, and no one will be dropped. We will ride from Patchogue through Blue Point (where the beach is), to Sayville, around Holtsville, into Bellport, and back to Patchogue. We will take a break at the Holtsville Ecology Center, so bring snacks (or you may pick something up at 7-Eleven). Cell phone: (631) 523-2129.
Head out through Patchogue Holtsville to Corey Beach. Upon return grab at Flos or bring your own food. Enjoy BLUE Point brewery just gets away. Cancellations will be posted by 8AM. No one left behind. Same route as the Big Kahuna just at faster pace!!! Steve 631/379-7562
Park behind Wendy's along Old Neck Road. This will not be faster than a low to mid C+ (12-12.5) final average. There are sections where you can go at your own pace (faster or slower)-especially on the rollers on Mill Rd. which will be a challenge for me! We will make a stop at the Bean and Bagel for our break, around mile 18, I believe. Cell phone 516-330-1542.
Thanks to Ron for putting this together again. This is going to be a great ride. We’ll start out from the parking lot weaving our way through Patchogue, Holtsville and Cory Beach. Average pace between 11 and 12.5 mph; depending on wind conditions, tide, humidity and riders ability. Naturally the road speed will be slightly higher to produce the average. When we get back to the parking lot you can grab a bite at Flo’s Lunchenete, where they have umbrellas, tables and chairs before going just another 0.6 miles and 11 feet to the Blue Point Brewery where we can sample/buy the new stuff that is hitting the market. Last year there was also a food truck at the brewery with a nice variety of staples and fair prices. So, come out and join us for a fun filled day with your fellow SBRA'rs. Please check the ride calendar for any weather, or last minute cancellations which will be posted no later than 8AM if necessary. As always Newbies are always welcome. p.s. This ride is posted as a C but usually gets into the low C+ range as there is no C/C+ classification. However, we will stay together.
I tend to be long winded, so click "read more" on the bottom for the entire post. First of all thanks to Ron for putting this together again. This is going to be a great ride. We’ll start out from the parking lot weaving our way through Patchogue on the way to Smith Point. We will be following the fast, faster, and fastest groups until they are small specs in the distance. There will be a pee break on the way to the beach as well as a stop at 7-11 around mile 14 for stuff to take to the beach if you are so inclined. All this will be accomplished with and average pace between 14.7 and 15.0 mph, +/- depending on wind conditions, humidity and other factors. Naturally the road speed will be slightly higher to produce the average. Sure enough, there will be at least 3 places where you can stretch the legs; a paceline is allowed on those leg stretch breaks for those who wish to do so there is no obligation for other riders to do so. When we get back to the parking lot you can grab a bite at Flo’s Lunchenete, where they have umbrellas, tables and chairs before going just another 0.6 miles and 11 feet to the Blue Point Brewery where we can sample/buy the new stuff that is hitting the market. So, come out and join me for a fun filled day with your fellow tea drinkers. I will bring a six pack of diet coke for those that don’t want to try the new stuff. Please check the ride calendar for any weather, or last minute cancellations which will be posted no later than 7:30AM if necessary. My cell number is 631.484.3490; call anytime if you have questions about this ride or need directions to the start.

This ride is part of the new “Special Ride Series” (SRS), and is designed to better assist new people who wish to ride with SBRA. This particular event is being run as a 1-Day Session by Joanna Pascucci (our Ride Director) and me for the “More experienced rider, but new to SBRA and group riding.” This ride will emphasize rider safety, SBRA club rules, basic bike mechanics and a number of things which are very important when riding in a group. This is for everyone who has not been on a group ride and any riders from a C level, and up, are welcome. Please make sure you have a working bike, a helmet (required on all club rides), water or a sports drink that fits in a bike cage and will not fall out. After the discussion portion of the session, we will take a ride: depending on the abilities of the riders in the group, the distance will be between 10 and 25 miles, the pace will be from a C (average of 12-13) up to a B (average of 15-16), and the group will be divided, as necessary. If you have any questions, please contact Joanna at 631-656-0925. PARK ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF THE TRAIN STATION. Cell phone day of the ride 631-523-2129. PLEASE NOTE: This is NOT for Beginner Riders.
