on hiatus)
This is the companion ride to the long-running Kreb Shop "A" Ride. This week’s route in East to The Maples. We make every effort to keep both ride groups together, but if there is a split, we let the A ride go ahead. We do scheduled wait-ups (and as necessary), in addition to one brief rest stop halfway through ride. Please bring adequate drinks and nutrition, as the rest stop occurs in a parking lot (no food/drinks/restrooms available).
Please park your car in the Bellport Municipal Parking Lot located at Bellport Lane & Bell Street, and then ride bike half a block over to the Kreb Bike Shop parking lot at 10 Bell Street, to sign-in for ride and hear the pre-ride briefing.
Park south of the tracks at the Southampton RR station, east side of lot. Plan most of the day for this scenic ride. We'll head off to Morton Wildlife Preserve at mile 16. We'll walk for a mile or two in the preserve where the views of Little Peconic Bay are pretty special. If we are lucky (and quiet) the chickadees will feed from our hands. (I'll provide bird seed for all). We'll pedal to Sag Harbor for a lunch break at mile 22. We can stop at Grindstone for the best donuts ever, they also have a small selection of sandwiches, coffee and teas of all types. Celebrities have been sighted there. Bring shoes that you can walk in at the Preserve, if your bike shoes don't fit the bill. Bring plenty of water and snacks, especially if its a hot, humid day. Plan extra time to drive out east, the traffic can be unpredictable. The route becomes rolling after mile 10, no one will be dropped. The pace will be a touring pace, averaging around 12.5-13. I would ask that you call or text me Thursday evening to let me know that you plan on coming, so I know who to look for. Check the calendar before you head east for any changes/cancellation which will be posted by 6:00 AM. If it is an unusually hot and humid day, I will reschedule the ride again. Thanks, and don't forget to text/call your intentions by Thursday evening.
