NOTE:
Under the Ride Level details, the "Type: Road Bike" refers to the ride will be on paved roads (rather then off road trails). Although a Road Bike is suggested for Road Bike Type rides it is not required. Hybrid and mountain bikes can be used on these rides as well provided you are comfortable with the pace outline in the Posted Ride. This ride calendar is for club rides, club meetings, club event posts and shop rides only.
For Other Events in our area and off Long Island check out the "Other Rides & Events calendar" and the "Forums"

This will be the original route from Oakdale but want to take it to Bellport so it is a little bit longer than what the first ride was going to be. We can gauge the group when we get to Patchogue and make a decision. If we make it to Bellport there will be a deli stop, if not make sure you have snacks on hand. Any cancellations will be posted by 7 am. Please arrive 1/2 early so that we can roll out at 9.
This will be the first training ride for the full century. This group will be for those who are not experienced riders looking to do the century and for those who haven't been on the bike for quite awhile (like myself) looking to get moving at a slow pace. My goal will be to get the group up to riding a high B-/low B pace for the day of the century. I plan on having these training rides on Saturdays and the start time will get earlier as the training goes on to accommodate the longer miles. As the weather is unpredictable and the roads are not in the best of condition, I will post any cancellations at least 2 - 3 hours prior to the start time so it is imperative that you check back for any changes. If a Saturday training is cancelled I will do my best to move it to Sunday if my schedule and weather allows. Please be prepared with proper water bottles, snacks and extra tubes (just in case). I will be keeping the first few training rides on very flat roads as possible. Most the routes will be roads used for the century. About half way into the training we will start to go out of the ecology center which will be a bit hillier.
If you have any questions regarding this ride, the century or have just general questions, please feel free to contact me on my cell. Think Spring!!!!
***UPDATE- 3/21/2015 – 6:15PM RIDE CHANGED TO MANORVILLE START IS SUNSHINE MALL. I just check out the Great River 28 route. There is just much too much sand on the shoulders. I did Manorville last week and it was better so that’s where I think we should go. ***
It’s off to Manorville, hopefully most of the melting snow will be gone. The average pace for the ride will be between 14.0 to 15.0 mph; perhaps a tad higher or lower depending on the road condition, wind direction and other conditions. Naturally, the road speed will be higher (15 -17 mph.) to produce the average. A rest/ food stop at McDonald’s or the bagel shop is on the schedule around mile 12. There will be some leg stretches along the way for those who feel the need.
My cell number is 631.484.3490; call anytime if you have questions about this ride or need directions to the start. Please check the ride calendar for any weather, or last minute cancellations which will be posted no later than 8:00AM if necessary.
Since Saturdays ride was cancelled due to snow this is now the Century Training week 2
Join me for a ride out to Manorville. For anyone that was not able to make the century training yesterday you can make up your miles today.
We are stopping at McDonalds for a break and then heading back. We will stay together as a group. At this point safety of the group is the most important thing. Roads are not great so we may have to slow down the pace to navigate through the potholes and road debris.
I will be posting a ride for both Saturday and Sunday...
With the unsettled weather hopefully we will get in one of them...
This will be a true B+ ride.. For the faster riders look for Dennis Jackson's ride.
We will stop at Manorville for a short break.

This is going to be a "B" and nothing faster. I went for my first bike ride in over a year today and did a big 15 miles. I do not want to do someones else's ride as I am not up to 35 miles and do not want to hold anyone up waiting for me. Average speed will be about 15 MPH depending on wind conditions. Please note there is no rest stop on this ride. It is just out and back. Hope to see you there
LET'S SEE HOW THE ROADS LOOK IN THE MORNING. MIGHT STRT LATER IF ROADS CLEAR. MIGHT RESCHEDULE FOR SUNDAY IF I AM ABLE We will start out at a low B pace and progress each week, increasing mileage (sometimes repeating a distance from the week before) and pace as the weeks go on. My intention is to have these rides on Saturdays. If weather forces a cancellation, I will TRY to reschedule for Sundays when possible (we are running out of weeks!) Rest stops will be roughly at the mid point, and we will have 2 stops on the longer rides. DUE TO POSSIBLE WEATHER AND OTHER CIRCUMSTANCES, I AM CHANGING THE RIDE START AND THE DISTANCE. WE WILL HAVE TO WATCH THE WEATHER, BUT THIS RIDE MAY BE DELAYED TO GIVE THE ROADS A CHANCE TO CLEAR
RIDE UPDATE - FRIDAY 9:30PM: RIDE IS POSTPONED FOR SATURDAY DUE TO THE SNOW. DEPENDING ON HOW THE ROADS LOOK LATER IN DAY ON SATURDAY I MAY RESCHEDULE FOR SUNDAY. CHECK THE RIDE CALENDAR SATURDAY EVENING TO SEE WHETHER THE RIDE IS ON FOR SUNDAY OR CANCELLED ALTOGETHER.
Meet at the overflow lot south of the train station. Since last week's Moriches ride came in at under 13MPH I am downgrading the pace of this ride, especially if it is windy. We will head out east through Bayport, Blue Point, Patchogue, East Patchogue and Bellport, with a food/rest stop at the deli on Station Rd in Bellport Village. If the temps aren't too low we can head down to the marina to eat. On the route back we will do an extra loop past the ride start into the West Sayville and Oakdale area to add the 5 miles needed to get the total up to 30. Cancellation for any reason will be posted no later than 8:00AM on Saturday. If cancelled, the ride may be rescheduled for Sunday.
This is the winter version of Dennis' Area 51 ride. I am posting in case the roads are still messy Sunday.
It will only take place if Bobs century training ride is cancelled for road conditions.
Check back, the status will be updated by 7:30 Sunday morning. If Bobs ride is on this ride WILL be cancelled.
A lead group is welcome, you know who you are....
Officially CANCELLED. See you at Bobs ride. For the "lead" group have fun stay safe.....
We will try to complete the route from last Sunday. Riding to Sassy Salads and then east, south and West to go home. Wait ups will be done as needed.
Hope to ride with you.
