Although a Road Bike is suggested for Road Bike Type rides it is not required. Hybrid and mountain bikes can be used on these rides as well provided you are comfortable with the pace outline in the Posted Ride. We will be following the other groups to Smith Point Beach and after the ride everyone will be going to the Blue Point Brewery. Come even if you don't drink Beer! We can bring snacks and drinks for those that don't drink and there is a food truck that sells Hot Dogs, burgers and other goodies.
This is a great flat route and we should end up with a high B pace.
**UPDATE – 10/11/2014 – 7:10AM. It appears the rain will last into the afternoon so the ride is CANCELED. Tomorrow will be a better day. Bring bike supplies and we’ll have a tire changing lesson.**
Ok, so this is it. The ducks are all quacking and all in a row. This is what the outcome was. Let’s go to Manorville and return via the South shore thru Bellport. I have posted this as a 40 mile ride but if the day is windy and cold we will do 35 miles and if it’s really windy and cold we’ll do 30 miles. There will be a rest stop and food along the way. For all the leg stretches there will be a ying yang of them; me, my legs are like rubber bands, I’ll stay with those who don’t. The average pace will be between 14.8 & 15mph. with a road speed of 15-17mph. It’s the end of the season so come prepared to do 40 miles.
Two things we know for sure; we will have fun and drink some beer when we get back. I will bring a six pack of diet coke for the non beer lovers. Please check the ride calendar for any weather, or last minute cancellations which will be posted no later than 7:30AM if necessary. My cell number is 631.484.3490; call anytime if you have questions about this ride or need directions to the start.
IT APPEARS THAT THIS WILL BE YET ANOTHER RAINY SATURDAY. WHY CAN'T IT RAIN MID WEEK WHEN I HAVE TO GO TO WORK? SATURDAY RIDE CANCELLED - AGAIN!
(IF YOU DON'T HEAR FROM MY WIFE IN A WEEK OR SO CHECK MY BASEMENT FREEZER.)
After the ride everyone will be going to the Blue Point Brewery for a free beer tasting. Come even if you don't drink Beer! You can bring snacks and drinks for those that don't drink and there is a food truck that sells Hot Dogs, burgers and other goodies.
This is a great route and we should end up with an 11-12.5 pace. NOBODY LEFT BEHIND. Newbies always welcome. Any cancellation by 8AM. You could just come and do the ride if you wish.
Join us for a multi-level ride, where all rides will all end up back in Patchogue around the same time. After the ride we will go around the corner to celebrate Oktoberfest at the Blue Point Brewery, where you may sample a cold one (or two), take a Beer Tour, and/or socialize with your friends. The brewery does not sell any food, but a food truck was there in July. You may purchase food there, or bring a sandwich, etc. to consume while sampling their brews and sitting at their picnic table area. You may also bring a bag of snacks to share with everyone.
This will be a structured C+ ride, with an average of 12.3 - 12.8, with cue sheets, and no one will be dropped. This ride will go through Patchogue, Blue Point, Sayville, Holtsville, and Bellport. We will take a break at the Holtsville Ecology Center, so bring snacks or you may pick something up at 7-Eleven.
Pedal Paddle Pedal 2014 Saturday, October 11, 2014 (PLEASE NOTE DATE HAS CHANGED) (rain date: Sunday, Oct 12th)
We will start with a 15 or 25 mile ride at a C or B pace (your choice) from Sunshine Mall to the Carmans River Canoe and Kayak (formerly Glacier Bay) on Montauk Highway in Brookhaven.
Hop off your bicycles (security provided) and enjoy a beautiful paddle along the Carmans River, one of Long Island’s most scenic water ways.
RIDE UPDATE - SATURDAY 11:45AM - STILL RAINING AND DOESN'T LOOK THE ROADS WILL HAVE A CHANCE TO DRY BY MID-AFTERNOON EVEN IF THE RAIN STOPS IN THE NEXT HOUR. NOT A GOOD DAY TO RIDE, RIDE CANCELLED.
Let's see if the rain gets out here by mid-afternoon so we can get a ride in. I may push back the ride start as late as 4:30 so check back by 1:30 for any other updates or cancellation.
