SBRA sponsors the 25th Annual Fund Raising Event to benefit both the Guide Dog Foundation for the blind®. The foundation raises, trains, and furnishes guide dogs, free of charge, to people who are visually impaired or have other special needs, that seek the independence, mobility, and companionship a guide dog provides.

Leaving from the The RINX, Hidden Pond Park, 660 Terry Road, Hauppauge, NY, rides range from a 10 mile fun ride to a challenging 63 miles. Depending on the length of the route, riders will tour Ronkonkoma, Holtsville, Yaphank, Rocky Point, and Wading River.

For the past 25 years, the Guide Dog Foundation’s annual bike-a-thon has been one of their most popular events, and last year, their first Wag ‘n Walk dog walk had over 200 participants. This year, we have combined these events to create the inaugural Guide Dog Foundation Stroll & Roll.  On Sunday, September 28, 2014, please join us for this fun family, and pet friendly event to benefit the Guide Dog Foundation. Update: Don't forget to RSVP if you plan on joining this ride.... I might consider a slightly different route depending on the size of the group... plus... it allows me to leave the ride start with all the people I was expecting and no one gets left behind because they were running 5 minutes late.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Howard Beach - Brooklyn - Lower Manhattan.

Here's the route - http://ridewithgps.com/routes/5800778

Features... we start with a long loop south through Broad Channel and Far Rockaway, then over the bridge to the Flatbush and Belt Pkwy bike paths into Sheepshead Bay. From there, we'll take Bedford Ave into the heart of Brooklyn for a quick loop around Prospect Park. Twist and turn our way into Manhattan (via the Manhattan Bridge) where we’ll stop for lunch at the South Street Seaport.

From there it's a slow roll around Battery Park. We'll cut across Lower Manhattan to the Brooklyn Bridge and city street our way south to Bay Ridge and ride the bike path under the Verrazano Bridge and along the shore 17 miles back to Howard Beach with a 3 mile stretch through Coney Island along the way.

It's a 60 mile / 1300ft ride and it will probably take most of the day. New Park brick oven pizza slices on me to close out the adventure.

++++++++++++++++

This is an RSVP ride.

I posted extra information in the SBRA forum about these city rides. I suggest you read over all the information provided by clicking this link:

Details (RL read field instructions carefully):

Meet at the southeast corner of the parking lot near the railroad tracks. The late afternoon start time should not conflict with the Guide Dog ride taking place in the morning, it also gives those who volunteered at that event a chance to get a ride in on what should be a nice fall afternoon. Route TBD, we will either ride north to Manorville or east to East Moriches/Eastport. There is no bathroom or food stop on this ride so please plan accordingly. Please check the Ride Calendar around 2PM on Sunday to see if the ride is still a "Go", there is a slight chance I may have to cancel.
