Join me for a ride to Smiths Point Beach. This is a flat ride with an average between 16.6-16.8 mpg so this is considered to be a higher than a B and a lower end B+. This is the pace I have been doing most of the summer. There will be sections where we will pace line and as usual if you do not want to participate you do not have to. This is a scenic ride for a great holiday weekend. Look for my car across from Flo's at end of the parking lot.
Easy end of summer ride to the beach, try to average 15 mph. No one gets dropped. I promise there will be a short warm up period for the weak, old and cranky riders. Short bathroom break at the beach with a break at The Hampton Coffee shop in Westhampton
Park on the east end of the parking lot, nearest to Wendy's. Exact route still TBD but there will be a food/rest stop at Briermere around mile 20. Exact mileage may be slightly less than 45. Expect a strong B pace ( over 15.0 ) but not outside of the B range. Cancellation for any reason will be posted no later than 7AM.
I tend to be long winded so click "read more" on the bottom for the entire post. – The route will be the same as the Sunday before last. We’ll go the through Connetquot Park, then down to Heckscher Park where one can stretch the legs a bit by doing one loop. This is not a pace line. Around mile 14 there will be a rest stop and a bathroom break. This route is mostly flat with shade and 4 little hills. This ride will come in with an average between 14.8 & 15.0 mph; depending on the wind it could come in a tad higher. The road speed on this ride will be between 15 and 17mph.
We’ll be making a food/rest stop near the end of the ride around mile 30. While at this stop you can have self serve ice-cream, fat free yogurt, gelato, or a sandwich and coffee before going just 2 more miles back to the start. Back at the start if you bring supplies and a chair (optional) we can have a repair clinic; or not.
Please check the ride calendar for any weather, or last minute cancellations which will be posted no later than 7:30AM if necessary. My cell number is 631.484.3490; call anytime if you have questions about this ride or need directions to the start.
Join us as we explore the coves, inlets, and bays, surrounding Shelter Island and Sag Harbor. There are many waterside views and scenic vistas on this hilly and lightly traveled route. We will take the North ferry and ride the West perimeter of the island to the South ferry. On the South fork we will have lunch in Sag Harbor, then ride through the Northwest woods and Three Mile Harbor. Ferry back to Shelter Island and ride the East perimeter along Gardiners Bay including the causeways leading to the Ram islands. Joint with NYCC. Keep in mind there will be ups and downs all day. If you don't like hills this ride is not for you. Total round trip fare for both ferries including your bike is $11.00 cash per person.
Going to East Islip with a stop at Timber Point Golf Club for a snack. NOBODY LEFT BEHIND. Special care taken for newbies. Any cancellation by 8:30AM. Average pace should be 11-12.5MPH.
Bring money for great rest stop, Average speed will depend on who shows up and the Wind, somewhere between 12.3 and 13.5, I hope? New route. No One Left Behind.
Park near Wendys off Old Next Road. Rollers on Mill Road done at your own pace. We will then go up to the Bean and Bagel for our break. Pace will hopefully reach low B- (no more than 13.4). Check back here for any cancellation by 7:30 am. Cell phone 516-330-1542.
A tour of the area for those who want to sleep late. There is no food stop, but will make bathroom stops if needed. No one left behind. check back by 12:00 pm for any changes.
