We go out to Manorville today average speed will be around 16 mph with faster cruising speeds on the flats. We all stay together and we will stop around mile 23 in Manorville at McDonald's for a quick snack. Check for any time changes the morning of the ride.
Ride the rolling hills to Stony Brook. Most of the hills are on the way with only a few hills leaving Stony Brook for a mainly flat return to Commack. Very scenic. Mileage includes Short and Long Beach loops Food Stop at Fratellis in Stony Brook. If temps above 85 will move ride to 8AM. No go in rain
Join me for a relaxed B/B+ ride. We will do the 50 mile version of Marty's ride. I want to keep a pace line with the cursing speed about 18-20 MPH and to try to keep the group together. Those who want to go off the front are welcome. ***NO GO IN RAIN***
There is no bathroom at ride start so be sure to stop prior. Two hilly sections-the golf course and the Tank Loop-done at your own pace. Stop at Briermere for bathrooms and goodies (and apple cider!). Cell phone 516-330-1542.
Meet on the east end of the parking lot, south of the Wendy's. Food/rest stop at McD's in Manorville around mile 16. Pace will be on the higher end of B- ( 14.0 - 14.9 ). Cancellation for any reason will be posted no later then 7AM.
I tend to be long winded so click "read more" on the bottom for the entire post. - We need to start at 9:30 because Tully’s doesn’t open till 11:00; I don’t want to get there too soon.
It’s a scenic ride through Eastport, Remsenburg, Westhampton Beach, and points east. The wind direction will determine the route to be taken. We‘ll be using Dune road as part of the route going either westbound or eastbound depending on the wind direction. If the wind doesn’t cooperate we will use an inland route which is just as nice. There will be some spots (Dune Road) where one can stretch the legs if desired. This is not a pace line.
We’ll make a rest/food stop at Tully’s around mile 20 for some great clam chowder or fishy stuff. Peddle another 13 miles to the Beach Bakery for some sweet goodies or a bagel and then go back to the start. The average pace for the ride will be between 14.5-15.0 mph depending on wind, humidity, and other factors.
Please check the ride calendar for any weather, or last minute cancellations which will be posted no later than 7:15AM if necessary. My cell# is 631.484.3490; call anytime if you have questions about this ride, or need directions to the start.
Join us as we explore the bays, coves, and inlets surrounding Shelter Island and Sag Harbor. There are many waterside views and scenic vistas on this hilly and lightly traveled route. We will take the North ferry and ride the West perimeter of the island to the South ferry. On the South fork we will have lunch in Sag Harbor, then ride through the Northwest woods and Three Mile Harbor. Ferry back to Shelter Island and ride the East perimeter along Gardiners Bay including the causeways leading to the Ram islands. Joint with NYCC. Keep in mind there will be ups and downs all day. If you don't like hills this ride is not for you. Total round trip fare for both ferries including your bike is $11.00 cash per person.
A great day to go back to the beach w/stop at 7-11 or deli to pick up snacks on the way. Average pace 11-12.5mph. NO ONE LEFT BEHIND. Any cancellation by 8:30AM.
Come on out to Riverhead for the 33 mile ride to Wading River and back, with plenty of varied terrain and hills (Route 51, Route 111, Little Flower, Baiting Hollow) and some nice, quiet roads, too. We re-group after the major hills, with a brief rest after the Little Flower hill.
