Under the Ride Level details, the "Type: Road Bike" refers to the ride will be on paved roads (rather then off road trails). Although a Road Bike is suggested for Road Bike Type rides it is not required. Hybrid and mountain bikes can be used on these rides as well provided you are comfortable with the pace outline in the Posted Ride. This ride calendar is for club rides, club meetings, club event posts and shop rides only.

We will ride with John's Lazy Birds on the South Route. A Ride down Dune Road and a brief stop at 7-11. Print a copy of the cue sheet if you are new to the route. http://www.sbraweb.org/sites/default/files/eb_south_0.pdf (Glen 631 241 2785 C)
This ride is part of the new “Special Ride Series” (SRS), and is designed to better assist new people who wish to ride with SBRA. This particular event is being run as a 1-Day Session by Joanna Pascucci (our Ride Director) and me for the “More experienced rider, but new to SBRA.” We are offering this on two dates: Saturday, June 21 and Sunday, June 29 (you only need to attend one of them). This ride will emphasize rider safety, SBRA club rules, basic bike mechanics and a number of things which are very important when riding in a group. This is for everyone who has not been on a group ride. Please make sure you have a working bike, a helmet (required on all club rides), water or a sports drink that fits in a bike cage and will not fall out.
After the discussion portion of the session, we will take a ride of between 10 - 15 miles, at a C+ pace (average of 12-13), depending on the abilities of the group.
If you have any questions, please contact Joanna at 631-656-0925.
PARK ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF THE TRAIN STATION.
See you on Sunday! Cell phone day of the ride 631-523-2129.
PLEASE NOTE: This is NOT for Beginner Riders. There will be a "Beginner SRS" offered in July, which will consist of a series of rides, that will cover everything needed for beginners.
We will go the usual route through Connetquot Park and then do a loop in Heckscher Park where one can stretch the legs a bit. The route is mostly flat with 2 little hills. The average pace for this ride will be between 14.5. & 15.0 mph, depending on the wind and other factors. Naturally the road speed will be slightly higher to produce the average.
We will be making a food/rest stop somewhere between miles 15 and 20. Please check the ride calendar for any weather, or last minute cancellations which will be posted no later than 7:30AM if necessary.
My cell number is 631.484.3490; call anytime if you have any questions about this ride or need directions to the start.

Join us for a scenic tour thru the historic community that once was the Vanderbilt estate in Oakdale. Ride thru the Mews, pass the buildings Vanderbilt built, the homes that came later along the canals, Dowling College, the Connetquot River with views of the Bayard Cutting arboretum...and more! Meet at the south end of the Oakdale train station parking lot.
My first ride in a while, so we'll take it slow and easy. I'm trying to coincide with the end of Joe's ride so he and anyone on his ride can join us. We'll ride to Webby's beach and stop for some views on the way. Any bike welcome, but It will be my first ride on the cruiser bike I rescued from total rust out!
