Hybrid and mountain bikes can be used on these rides as well provided you are comfortable with the pace outline in the Posted Ride. **This ride is moved to Sunday 4/27 due to rain and wet roads...Ride leaves at 8AM
8:00 pm 4/25 and rain for tonight into tomorrow am still forecasted . I will do another post in the morning in case something changes. Otherwise we will do this ride SUNDAY STARTING AT 8:00AM .
This is the 70 mile test! Century is 2 weeks from now. We will have multiple stops for refueling today. At this point if you have not been doing any training rides this is not the ride for you. Please come on time and be respectful of the other people on the ride. check for updates . If the weather is bad the ride will be moved to tomorrow.
Note: Changing start time to 8:00 am from 7:30 am to let it warm up and dry out a bit more.
This ride will be based on my usual North Fork route, leaving from Manorville through Riverhead, Jamesport, and Mattituck, but today we'll continue out to Greenport for lunch on the village green before returning through Southold, Cutchogue, and New Suffolk.
The overall ride average will be around 14.5 mph, and the approximate distance is 75 miles.
Please remember to bring snacks, as the lunch stop will be at the halfway mark in Greenport.
Carousel rides are optional, and that mileage doesn't count. If you do take a ride remember that the horses on the outside go faster!
We'll do the ride on Sunday, when we have the best chance to do the *entire* ride. See you, then!
**********************************************************************************
This week Century Training Ride (CTR), takes us on a loop that includes Area 51, Briermere and that tank farm.
Come ride with Bruce as we extend our loop out to the Tank Farms...hint ..hills added..before AND after.
Wait ups will always be done so we don't lose anybody, especially the sweep OR the ever so important (NOT), ride leader.
Bring $$$ for snacks/lunch/cab fare.
Hope to see you there.
We will do two 25 mile loops - the first to Wildwood S.P. and the second to Westhampton Beach - both beginning and ending at Manorville. Riders can opt to do either one or two loops. Non-century riders are welcome. Leader(s) will maintain a 13-15 mph level ground cruising speed. No one will be dropped
UPDATE - FRIDAY 1PM - THE CURRENT FORECAST IS CALLING FOR RAIN OVERNIGHT UNTIL ABOUT 9AM TO 10AM SATURDAY. WITH THE LONGER MILEAGE I DON'T WANT TO START LATER IN THE DAY AND EVEN IF THE RAIN STOPS SOONER I'D RATHER NOT BE RIDING ON WET ROADS. I AM POSTPONING THE RIDE TO SUNDAY AT 9AM. I HOPE THIS EARLY DECISION GIVES EVERYONE A CHANCE TO PLAN THEIR WEEKEND RIDING ACCORDINGLY RATHER THAN HAVING TO WAIT UNTIL EARLY TOMORROW MORNING TO SEE WHETHER THE RIDE IS A "GO/NO GO". HOPEFULLY IT WON'T BE AS WINDY ON SUNDAY AS IT HAS BEEN.
This ride will consist of two 25-mile loops. The first loop will go out to Manorville, with a food/rest stop at McD's around mile 19. On the way back we will pass by the Eastport ride start if anyone needs to drop off any jackets, gloves, etc. The second loop will head out east to Westhampton Beach and Quogue, with a snack/rest stop at the Beach Bakery. Pace should be in the middle of the B- range ( 14.0 ). There is a chance I may have to move the ride to Sunday so be sure to check the Ride Calendar later in the week for any updates.
This is not an actual ride posting. It is being put on the calendar in order to post rider mileage for those who only completed one of the two loops of Dick Cunningham's metric century ride.
How about taking a ride to Great River today? We will go the usual route through Connetquot Park and then do a loop in Heckscher Park where one can stretch the legs a bit. The route is mostly flat with 2 little hills. The average pace for this ride will be between 13.9. & 14.5 mph, naturally the road speed will be slightly higher to produce the average. We will be making a food/rest stop somewhere between miles 15 and 20. No one will be dropped. Always check the ride calendar for any weather, or last minute cancellations which will be posted no later than 8:00AM if necessary. My cell number is 631.484.3490; call anytime if you have questions or need directions to the start.
Build up some strength on a scenic, hilly ride through Setauket, Old Field and West Meadow. Bring a snack for a brief rest stop at the beach. This will be a moderate B pace, coming in with an ending speed of @ 14 for my own and other riders comfort on those hills (slower speeds on the climbs and wait ups, of course!). Please arrive in time to be ready to roll by 9:30am. Park at the end of the lot out from Carnival/Harmon. Location note: This ride is from Port Jeff Station...NOT Stony Brook Home Goods. Day of: (631) 804-5902 Please check back here by 8am for any changes or cancellations.
SORRY TO DO THIS BUT CANCELLING DUE TO THE FACT THAT I'M NOT FEELING WELL, BESIDES IT'S ONLY GOING TO BE 50° WITH WINDS OF 15MPH FROM THE NW - IT DOESN'T LOOK LIKE IT WOULD BE A FUN RIDE.
Park at the EXTREME North East lot for wheels down at 10:04AM. Coffee/lunch break halfway at the Golf Course. NO ONE LEFT BEHIND. Any cancellation by 9AM. Irene/Janet where are you?
Saturday's roads are quite wet and rain not stopping much, so moving ride to Sunday. Cannot leave for ride before time scheduled.
Century training, Lindenhurst Post Office to Stony Brook. Mileage approximate and may vary depending on route selected.
For those who ride my Commack to PJ and SB rides, this is a version with some flat sections added with plenty of rolling hills and a mostly flat return. Additional hills on request(LOL).
Food stop at Fratellis on Main Street in Stony Brook and other pit stops as needed.
No go in rain.
Plenty of free parking on side streets and across the street at weekend unrestricted LIRR parking lot
Late Sunday morning ride from Manorville King Kullen loop through Grumman with a stop at Bean and Bagel. Ride will come in at C+ pace if windy and closer to B- if the wind is calm. Helmets a must and water bottles the fit snug in your bike cage. No Poland spring type bottles. No one left behind.
If anyone is interested in a later ride, we are back on for a delayed start after the turkey hunt which ends at noon. Will meet in parking lot before 12 to be ready to hit the trails at 12. Rocky Point Trails are so fabulous, didn't want to give up a chance to ride them while the weather is cool.
Turkey hunt is from dawn until 12 so we should be safe getting on the trails at noon by which time they should be roasting their turnkeys. Actually, i hope all the turkeys manage to stay hidden and we won't see any blood.
We will meet at the parking lot on Rocky Pt Road just north of Whiskey. If lot is full park on side street (Creek?) off Whiskey just east of RP Rd & pedal over. I think we can accommodate some various speeds & levels in mid-range of novice to intermediate. We will discuss plan in parking lot so everyone is accounted for. We can either start with West Loop Trail and then complete main course with those wishing to do diamonds doing so. If majority wants to skip west loop we will do main trail and after completion some can go back in to do west loop. Minimum miles should be about 12 with maximum up to about 19 or 20 so i put average in the mileage category. We will do wait ups as needed. Bring camelbacks and snacks. Rock & Roll at 10 am.
A nice easy side road meander; good for beginners or people just dusting the cobwebs off the bike! Ride might end up being a few more miles but not over 18 and will depend on the group. Park behind Wendy's off Old Neck Road. Cell phone 516-330-1542. Make sure to have water, a snack and a spare tube. No formal rest stop.
