Hybrid and mountain bikes can be used on these rides as well provided you are comfortable with the pace outline in the Posted Ride. Sorry guys but I think the roads are going to be wet in the morning and I am battling a leg/knee issue that will keep me from riding this weekend. You might not find the same mileage but you may find other B- rides - I think Joe Matzelle might be moving his ride to Sunday so please make sure you get some type of mileage in. We will continue training next week but the miles will be less, about 50. Have a good weekend. :(
We are so super close. This ride will be between 75 and 80 miles and for the most part it is FLAT!!!! Meeting location is the second parking lot that is south of the railroad station. NOT the parking lot at the station. We will be heading west to Babylon Docks, back to Heckscher Park with a loop around the park, out to Bellport then to Southaven Park with a return back to Sayville. There will be plenty of rest stops along the way but load up with goodies to keep you moving. We've been coming in about 14.3 - 14.5 on past rides so this should be no different. Pray for good weather and a fantastic ride. As it will be a long ride we need an earlier start so we will be rolling out at 7:45. Come early and ready to go!
They are calling for rain overnight and into tomorrow morning. I may delay the start till later and cut the milage. I will post by 7:30AM.
This will be the last B/B+ training ride before the century. I plan on riding next week however I will not be doing a long ride. The milage will be cut down to about 35 to 40. I just checked the weather and it is not supposed to be too windy (at least not at this point). Bring food. We will make stops along the way but the only stop that I know of that you can get food is Manorville. I will look for other good places for a quick stop along the way.
If it is windy (wonder why I would think that is a possibility) we will shorten the distance.
We'll take a break at Bean & Bagel after about 25 miles.
The overall speed of these Saturday rides has been creeping upwards with each passing week. I would expect that this route with all the long stretches of flat roads (and hopefully some favorable winds) will have a lot of 20-22 mph cruising with a final average around 18mph.
6:55 AM Sat 4/26- Not a road day. Have to settle for gym & laundry. Rescheduled for Sat 5/3. 6:35 pm 4/25/15- weather forecast is iffy (My weather butt says lots 'o rain.). Will update no later than 8 am Sat if ride is a go or not. Will not go if roads wet or too windy (that's no FUN!) Enjoy the North fork. Honest B. Dishonest riders take a cue sheet. ONE QUICK stop planned 1/2 way. Pee or Goo stops as needed.
SORRY GANG. FORECAST FOR RIDE START AND BEYOND IS 16-30MPH WINDS WITH 30-40% CHANCE OF RAIN. ALSO, IS SUPPOSED TO RAIN FROM FRI. NIGHT TO SAT. AM MAKING WET AND SLIPPERY ROADS. KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR A NEW POSTING FOR NEXT WEEKEND.
Park at the corner of McDermott Ave and the waterfront parking lot. Nice ride through farm country with a potty stop at Briemere, then on to see the Buffalo. Coffee/lunch break at the Bean and Bagel then watch the F-14 fly overhead and through Area 51 and back to the parking area. NO ONE LEFT BEHIND. Any cancellation by 9AM. Wheels down promptly at 10:04AM.
**UPDATE - 11:25AM - The rain has stopped. I'm moving the start time to 1:30PM. The roads will be a little drier by then. This will be the last change***
****UPDATE – 4/26/2014 – 7:40AM – The ride has been CHANGED and DELAYED. The start time is now 1:30PM. I will probably do the Ronkonkoma AM Coffee ride adding 5 miles making the route total 20 miles; this will depend on the road conditions and wind direction at the start. We still leave from the Holbrook Country Club.****
The average pace for the ride will be between 13.9 and 14.4 mph. naturally the road speed will be slightly higher to produce the average. There will be a bathroom/food stop along the way. My cell number is 631.484.3490; call anytime if you have questions or need directions to the start. Any additional changes will be posted by 11:45AM
