Although a Road Bike is suggested for Road Bike Type rides it is not required. Hybrid and mountain bikes can be used on these rides as well provided you are comfortable with the pace outline in the Posted Ride. Rides are getting longer so we will start just a little earlier today. 55 miles today with a stop or 2 along the way for rest/food stop. This is a training ride for the century but those that have been riding are welcome to join. Group stays together.
8:45 am - Wheels will be rolling - too many groups leaving at the same time.
We are picking up the miles this week. We have been averaging 13.7 - 14 mph. Looking to keep it that pace, of course straights will run a bit higher and wind is always a factor. There will be a stop or two along the way but bring water and snacks to keep up your energy. All are welcome to ride even if your not doing the Century. No one will be dropped. Right now the weather is not promising so as always, keep checking back here. I will post any cancellations by 7 am on Saturday morning. If I cancel this will be moved to Sunday. Any questions, feel free to contact me on my cell at 631-767-3176.
I have plans for Sunday so lets attempt to get this ride in and get some milage under our belts so that we can do the century. Of course right now they are predicting rain (what else is new) so check back. Hopefully it will be a nice day and we can get this ride in.
Century Training Ride (CTR) # 6 takes us out to Mill Road, Route 24 and then up the Hill on the Alien Highway, with a stop in Manorville. We will head back through Yaphank on the return leg home.
I know last weekend was lousy so let’s just add a few more miles. As fast as you guys and gals went last week trying to go between the rain drops I know you can do it, besides we’ll have a good time. The ride will be fun if Mother Nature is on our side. It’s a scenic ride through Eastport, Remsenburg, Westhampton Beach, and points east. The wind direction will determine the route to be taken. If we have a mild, straight East or West wind we will be using Dunne Road (wind at our back) as part of the route. We will be making a rest/food stop at Tully’s around mile 20 for some great clam chowder or fishy stuff. Peddle another 13 miles to the Beach Bakery for some sweet goodies or a bagel and then back to the start. Click “read more” below for more information. The average pace for the ride will be between 13.5-14.0 mph, No one will be dropped. Always check the ride calendar for any weather, or last minute cancellations which will be posted no later than 8:00AM if necessary. My cell phone# is 631.484.3490; call anytime if you have questions.
Since last Saturday's ride was cut short due to rain I am adding a second 35-mile ride for this weekend. Meet at the east end of the parking lot near the Wendy's. We will meander south and east through Center Moriches and East Moriches before heading north and west to Manorville with a food/rest stop at McD's. This will be a warm-up for tomorrow's ride to Tully's so I will be keeping the pace a little slower ( 12.5 - 13.5 ). Cancellation for any reason will be posted no later than 8AM on Saturday.
Leave Sayville RR Station South Parking lot (across the street from boarding platform) at 10AM. Lunch by the dock in Bellport. Training ride for Tour de Dune Road.
