UPDATE: The rain is supposed to start between late morning and early afternoon. Regardless, we won't get all 60 in safely. Wind, hills, rain, and slick roads do not go well together. I'm being proactive and shortening the ride. We can attempt to redo our 30 from a couple of weeks ago just to get something in. Same time, same place.
If things are too disgusting when I wake up, I'll just cancel. Either way we will try for 60 again next week.
----
Weather reports for this Saturday don't look that great, but this is LI and things can change in an instant. If I have to delay/cancel, I will indicate that in this posting by 7AM on Saturday.
Shooting for a high B-/low B pace (14.8-15.2mph avg, 15.5-17.5mph on the flats). As we found out last week, hills and wind will affect this a bit, but it's nice to have a goal.
Cue sheet available here: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/4285826 Look at the elevation profile...looks kind of like a saw blade :) You'll all be thanking me at Shagwong when we're scoffing down burgers the size of my head.
Please get to the parking lot 15 minutes before the posted start time to unload/sign in/etc. We meet at the Coram-Pine Shopping Center on the Dunkin Donuts side of the lot.
Update!!! I would like to start at 9:00 so we get the ride in before the rain rolls in. Also I want to extend the distance to 45 miles today. Same stop at Manorville McDonalds for the rest stop.
We will be doing 40 miles today and stopping at the halfway point for a food /rest break. The group will stay together. Check the morning of the ride for any updates.
**NEW START TIME 9:00AM** Must keep our tootsies dry…AS OF 7AM THIS MORNING I CAN'T SEEM TO FIND ANY PEACHY CREAMY WEATHER REPORTS. THEREFORE, MILEAGE WILL WE CUT BACK SOMEWHERE BETWEEN 22 AND 32. DECESION AT THE START. It’s off to Manorville once again. The route will change a little in the middle and the return route will change somewhat. We can alter this if the wind is bad. This route will give you a new look over last Saturdays ride; different pot holes. If you did 32 miles in last week’s wind another 4 miles is a “walk in the park”. I promise no 20 mph for this ride; I guess hope is a better word! The average pace for the ride will be between 13.5 to 13.9 mph. naturally, the road speed will be slightly higher to produce the average. A rest/ food stop at Mc Donald’s or the bagel shop is scheduled about mile 20. Click "read more" for more info. Always check the ride calendar for any weather, or last minute cancellations which will be posted no later than 8:00AM if necessary. . My cell number is 631.484.3490; call anytime if you have questions or need directions to the start.
After last weekends hills and wind I wanted to increase the mileage but keep it flat. This is a great ride but I am not promising anything about the wind. As always please show up 20 minutes early to get yourself ready so we can roll out at 9 am. Not sure if the bathrooms will be open at the beach but we can try to make a stop along the way if needed. Could be a chance of rain so be sure to check back Saturday morning. Any changes will be posted by 7 am. If you have any questions, feel free to contact my cell at 631-767-3176.
START TIME CHANGED TO 9:00. DEPENDING ON WEATHER MAY SHORTEN TO 30 MILES.
Still working on getting enough miles in to do the Metric Century but all riders are welcomed on this ride. Park along Old Neck Rd. behind Wendy's. We will make a stop at the Beach Bakery around mile 22. Always check the ride post before leaving in case weather or other problems change the ride. Any change will be posted by 8 am. Definitely LOW end of C+ pace (around 12 mph). Praying the wind is better this week! Cell phone 516-330-1542.
This week's century training ride leaves the Holtsville Ecology Site and changes-up the route as we head out to that Alien Highway (Route 51). This time we'll ride down the hill, so be ready for a fast descent.
We'll try to keep an honest B+ pace, so everyone gets to ride together. They'll be several regroups and a rest / fuel stop in Manorville.
Sorry I have to Cancel this ride. Meet at the Manorville King Kullen, LIE exit 70 1/2 mile south, for an easy ride to Bean & Bagel, will be at the lower average range for this ride, please get there early so we can leave on time, please check this website 1 hour before for any changes. Bring money for rest stop, Great bagels and coffee. No one left behind!
UPDATE - SATURDAY - 7:30AM - RIDE IS A GO. MILEAGE MAY BE REDUCED TO 25 OR 30 MILES OR I MAY ELIMINATE THE FOOD STOP, BRING SNACKS JUST IN CASE.
UPDATE - FRIDAY 8:30AM - FORECAST FOR SUNDAY IS NOT GOOD SO I AM MOVING THE RIDE UP TO SATURDAY AT 10:00AM. SINCE THERE IS RAIN IN THE FORECAST FOR SATURDAY AS WELL I MAY SHORTEN THE DISTANCE OF THE RIDE AND ONLY GO AS FAR EAST AS WESTHAMPTON BEACH. CHECK THE RIDE CALENDAR ON SATURDAY AT 7:30AM. IF I HAVEN'T CANCELLED THE RIDE BY THEN I PLAN TO BE AT THE RIDE START AND MAKE A FINAL "GO/NO GO" DECISION AT THAT TIME.
Ride east from Eastport through Westhampton Beach and Hampton Bays with a food/rest stop at Tully's. Anticipated pace, subject to wind speed and direction, will be on the low end of the B- range ( 13.0 - 13.9 ). If John Martin is on this ride and asks nicely, we can take a 2-mile detour for an extra snack break at the Beach Bakery in Westhampton. There is a chance I may have to move this ride up to Saturday. Be sure to check the Ride Calendar on Friday evening for any updates to this posting.
