This will be a B- ride. Expect an average between 14.9 and 15.0 Depending on many conditions this ride could come it a tad higher. In order to get this average the road speeds will be between 15.0 and 17.0 mph. Going downhill, or with the wind at your back will be faster. The main objective is to finish the ride without being too concerned about the average. The average will depend mainly on the wind, the hills, and who shows up. We will stay together and there will be one or two break-a-ways for those who want. We will take a break at the Beach and a rest stop at Wertheim about mile 10. Pulls would be appreciated.

Country roads, rollers, hills and water views.

It's been some time since we visited the aliens in Area 51, so it's time to return to the Alien Highway! We'll ride nearly non-stop, except for regroups, so we'll stay warmed-up. The pace will be a lower B+, so you can test out your winter gear and bike.
We'll visit Mill Road, Area 51, Harts Road and have the finish on Dayton Avenue. Extra credit for sprinting to the clock tower on Dayton, (slow down on Daytonbefore you enter the school lot)!

Ride to Babylon Docks. I am posting a B+ ride, however, if no one else posts a B/B+ tag-along ride then I'll slow the pace so more people can join the ride. There will be some points where riders can stretch their legs but we'll have the regular wait-ups.

The usual M.O.M ride. Cruise 19-22, Avg 19 depending on the weather/wind.
Please keep in mind that this is not a training ride but a recreational ride and if you cannot ride at the above specs then find another. Last week's M.O.M ride came in at 19.4 average and everyone enjoyed it. That's what I want to see happen. We stayed together as a group and there was little to no surging.
We will be leaving the bank heading to Babylon. There will be a quick break at the Docks/Deli. This is a B- ride that will average around 14.5 - 15 mph with road speeds that will reach 16 to 19 mph. Please come to ride to celebrate Lynn's special day.
An Intermediate ride on the East side of the powerlines but we stick with the slowest rider and maybe cut back the hills in the north end (Monster Mash will be skipped as it's impossible with the leaves). More ride info later.
Text me at 631-988-6557 if you plan to ride with me and I will wait at the start if you're running late OTHERWISE if I don't hear from anyone, I may start early.
Check back to this posting before leaving for the ride as Life Happens and Things Change.
Going to Manorville today, just a little change here and there. A rest/ food stop at McDonald’s or the bagel shop is on the schedule between mile 13 and 20. There are a few places along the route for a break-a-way for those who wish to do so.
The average pace for the ride will be between 14.8 to 14.9 mph +/- depending on the roads, wind direction, rider ability, tailwinds, downhill's, break-a-ways and other conditions. All of these conditions could change the final average one way or the other. Naturally, the road speed will be higher (14.5 to 16.5 mph.) to produce the average. We might add a mile or two depending on the route and the current conditions the day of the ride.
Any cancellation due to weather or any other circumstance will be posted no later than 0730 if necessary. If you have question about the ride just text me at 631.484.3490. Eventually my phone and I will meet in a reasonable amount of time...
This ride has morphed into the Wings Cafe ride. Come join us as we make our way around Manorville and Calverton, on mostly quiet paths and roads. All and all, a neat 36 or so miles with some nice stretches of riding and the now special stop at the airport where we may see small planes or skydivers, but where we will now stop for a bite at Wings Cafe.
Ride starts at 10:30 to get a bit more warmth into the day. Also given the wind forecast, the ride may be modified as to speed and/or distance.
Please bring any snacks you may wantas well as sufficient hydration. Most importantly bring an upbeat inquisitive attitude ready to explore and discover.
To join the ride or if you have questions, please text Bill Mastro at 917-921-5358. I usually send the final ride file to those that text me. Any updates or weather issues will be posted to the ride listing by 7:00 on the day of the ride.
Let's go for a nice paceline ride to Wading River, where we'll have a stop at the bagel place.
We'll avoid the crappy section of Victory Avenue by taking River Road and riding through some neighborhoods to Dayton Avenue and eventually Wading River Road. The return takes us through the old Grumman property to North Street and then onto William Floyd Parkway and the run home.
If we find any issues with the wind or cold, we can always change the distance. There will be a couple of sections where you can ride at your own pace, the rest of the time we stay together and NO SURGES at the front of the paceline!
First time here this Fall .... At most an Intermediate ride and will ride with the slowest rider (probably me! ;-) ... expect to skip the Ridges but do the rest of work;
Text me at 631-988-6557 if you plan to ride with me and I will wait at the start if you're running late OTHERWISE if I don't hear from anyone, I may start early.

Off to Quogue. Note: If you are facing Kreb's cycle shop, you enter the parking lot just to the left of the shop. Park in the far left rear section of the lot. There will be several scenic stops on this ride, and indoor restroom stops at miles 9,24 and 27. At mile 27 there is also a pocket park where we take a break, and it is near a bakery and 7-11. Bring drinks and snacks for our stops. The Quogue preserve has restrooms, and a water station where you can refill your water bottles. To join this ride, text Bill G. at 631-356-3036 with your full name and date of ride.
Fat Bike Wednesday at Smith Point. Let's ride to the New Old Inlet (Now Closed) and explore. Ride back will most likely be against the wind. We all stay together. Bring Lights for the return ride!
Please Text me by 12 noon if you plan to attend. Limited amount of riders for this ride. Nobody gets left behind. YOU MUST TEXT me to Ride.

If you have any questions text or call Mike 516 448-8545. Changes or cancelation will be posted by 7:30am day of ride.
By popular demand, we are going to keep the pace down on this ride, so stronger B riders are welcome! Some of us have been riding hard for several days, so this will be an easy endurance, Zone 1 kind of ride. Expect a ride average on the lower end of the B/B+ range, unless we have a tailwind return! Who knows, we may even come in at a high B, the point is to get in a longer ride, before the cold weather that is coming. Plan accordingly for a long ride- bring two water bottles and don't come to the ride expecting us to push the pace, so you can get to an afternoon appointment! As one of the wiser Early Birds once put it, "Not every ride has to be a training ride."
Friday is predicted to have some milder temperatures, so why don't we take advantage of the weather and take a ride out to Cutchogue. The start is at the lot across from the Maples Bar. We'll have a stop at the deli in Cutchogue at 26 miles and then head to Bridge Lane and Oregon Road, before we start our trip home. Along the ride we'll pass Peconic Bay in both directions, and pass through the East End farms at the eastern part of our ride. The return loop takes us through Riverhead and around the Peconic Lake.
This will be a strictly controlled B/B+ paceline ride, so we can enjoy the ride without killing each other! Control yourself when you get to the front of the paceline; you shouldn't increase the speed unless we're going downhill or downwind!
This will be an easy C+ ride around Center Moriches, that will average 12 - 12.6, and will be taking our break at Nettie's. There are some very nice water views along the way. No one gets dropped and we will be observing spacing rules, etc. Since the exact route will be determined as we go along, there will not be a cue sheet.

Going to Great River. I would like to come in between 14.8 and 14.9 mph +/- a tad. In order to get this average we will be doing road speeds between 15.0 and 17.0 mph. Expect down hills and wind at your back to be faster. We will take a break at the bagel shop about mile 14. This will be a moderately-paced no-drop recovery paceline ride to Briermere Farms. *** We're starting the ridea little later at 10:00 AM ***,to let things warm-up. Let's plan on looking out for each other, so no one gets dropped: that means take a look behind you when you're on the front of the paceline!
Briermere Farms will be at around 17 miles, and we'll have a short stop to grab some scones, coffee, etc.
Save some energy for the return ride. The winds of the North Fork will be coming from the West!
The usual M.O.M ride. Cruise 19-22 mph and average 19. Please note these B+/A- guidelines. The ride is a recreational one so you can ignore your power meters and enjoy this steady paced (no surging) ride. Thanks for your cooperation.
This will be a Begineer/Intermediate ride! I will ride as slow as the slowest rider.
If no begineers call or show than figure this to be a SLOW Intermediate ride and we'll do some BDs and add More on Four and the backend of BD 3 which we skipped last week. No matter what level you are it's easy to skip a BD @ Overton as the BD loop always returns to the main near the entrance of the BD.

Meet at the parking lot across from The Maples and we'll do some laps on the old 6.25 mile time trial loop. We'll be rising up and then down Grumman Hill and spinning through the Pine Barrens.
So the plan is: After a little warmup, we'll paceline on the Loop that includes Grumman Blvd. Everyone gets to pull a bit, and it will be good practice for riding in a group!
To keep warm, we'll do this non-stop, so bring two water bottles and snacks. We can pause, if someone needs a break, but there will be no formal stop.
IF you get bored, we can throw-in a few all-out sprints!
Fat bike Tuesday! Break out that Fat bike for a nice 10-12 mile ride on the beach the direction will be determined by the wind. We will ride into the wind first and return with wind behind us.
This is a sign up before ride. Please text me by 10am Day of ride.
It will NOT be a race more of a social gathering ride.
Eastport is probably one of the best places to learn how to Mtn Bike BUT you need a DEC Access Permit ... here's how to get one (must be on business days!): https://www.sbraweb.org/node/6490 . Other LI DEC riding venues need this pass also but Eastport will be closing for rifle hunting soon ... there maybe bow hunting going on in November.
CHECK BACK before leaving for the ride. It will be a Begineer/Intermediate ride and I will ride with the slowest rider ...
Text me at 631-988-6557 if you plan to ride with me and I will wait at the start if you're running late OTHERWISE if I don't hear from anyone, I may start early.

This will be an easy C ride around Center Moriches, that will average 11.5 - 12 and will be taking our break at Nettie's. There are some very nice water views along the way. No one gets dropped and we will be observing spacing rules, etc. Since the exact route will be determined as we go along, there will not be a cue sheet.
The number of riders is limited, so if you want to ride you must text me (631-523-2129) with your SBRA Member Number and Emergency Contact phone number. I will respond to your text and let you know if you have a spot on the ride. Once the ride is filled, I will change to post to indicate that.
MEETING LOCATION: straight back from Wendy's and Dunkin Donuts, on the EAST SIDE of the shopping center.
Riders should arrive at least 15 minutes before the ride start, to allow enough time for me to get everyone signed in and to "get yourself" ready.
We'll leave the lot across from the Maples, for a run to Goldberg's bagels in Riverhead. We'll have a quick stop for a snack and rest stop, but not too long - we don't want to freeze!
Let's make this a fun ride that everyone can enjoy. SO, pulls into the wind are appreciated, but NO jacking the pace up!
Yaphank Firehouse Ride out to Nettie's. We will have a brief break at the Riverhead Jail about Mile 18/19. Ride up 51 hill and regroup and continue on. There will be no stop at Nettie's as we will continue on to our return to the YPH.
This is the same ride Howard normally does, same pace, same route, with a break at halfway point at the Islip Terrace Bagel. Sign in at ride start please show up early so we can hit the road on schedule.
