What is TOSREC?

It time to plan for John's 'Tour Of Southern Rural Connecticut'. Join John & others for a the 4th annual leaf watching Century (give or take*) in beautiful New England. Ride leaves from the Orient Point Ferry most likely for the @ 7:00am boat, date to be fixed, usually in early to mid October.

Remember to bring money for the ferry & lunch.

It is a A-class Century ride with some nice smooth rolling roads some more climbing that you would find here on LI. Last year we started out together with a bigger mixed group of A and B+ riders, where the B+ did a shorter version of about 60..70 mi. Rejoin at lunch point possible, depends on planning and timing....
Suggested cut off option (B+ goup if any) for approx. 66mi loop (if you go strait down on 164) -- however, I just mapped what I had in mind, it is more 85mi:
http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united-states/new-london/856125547889939627 ("SHORT": 85mi)

From Canterbury (mile 43) proceed 1.7mi West on 14 and take Lisbon Rd all the way South, turns into Kimball proceed South until you hit 169 (proceed South on 169) and shortly the original route on Rte 138 at mile 75, proceed back on 138 East...

See here for my last year's ride reports:

UPDATE ON ROUTE:
http://www.mapmyride.com/route/us/ct/new%20london/660125539669067575

Total: 108 mi and approximately 3400 ft climbing.

The route will feature a little modification of the ride like Windy Hill Rd and as small extra attraction, a part of the Air Line Rail Trail:
http://pages.cthome.net/mbartel/ARRhome.htm

Before any debates coming on, I researched the section we will be on and can cite this:
"The section from the Goodwin State Forest Conservation Center to Route 44 in Pomfret is smooth, scenic and suitable for hikers, bikers and equestrians."

PS: I attached a set of maps.

I may be interested is there

I may be interested is there a B+ group going? I see names I can not hang with going up the hills, and depending on the pace the flats either. Looks like a shorter version of 60-70 miles would be better me. Please keep me posted.
Thanks
Marty

Unfortunately I can not tell

Unfortunately I can not tell for 100%, but I assume if you are fine going with John Youngman -- drop him a note to make sure he is in -- last year he cut off/short at the "top part" (what is actually the greatest of the route...) with a few more B+ riders at the water/bagel stop marked in the map with "W" -- you will be fine.

Suggested cut off option for approx. 80mi loop:

From Canterbury (mile 43) proceed 1.7mi West on 14 and take Lisbon Rd all the way South, turns into Kimball proceed South until you hit 169 (proceed South on 169) and shortly the original route on Rte 138 at mile 75, proceed back on 138 East...

However, I do not have a list of any confirmed B+ riders. So at all B+ riders -- I can provide you with a map, you need to stick together and organize yourself for the return -- please drop a note here for confirmation!

An please, print out your own maps - I attached a whole set here!

Also you can contact John directly...

Good ride, just a few facing

Good ride, just a few facing the great clear and crisp -- chilly -- day. Actual milage was 113mi with little forced change of route due to unexpected closed/private road (Windy Hill Rd) -- but not big deal to get around it.

The ferry schedule has been

The ferry schedule has been posted. On Wednesday there are return ferries at 2 PM, 3 PM and 5 PM. Thursday there is also a ferry at 4 PM which would offer us greater flexibility to get home before bedtime.
I've said this before but it was not considered to be an issue. Just thought I would bring up the issue again. So all involved are aware of the fall schedule.

I just remember last years last second jump on's w/o shoes and funny things a like of last second arrivals -- ferry is not goona wait once it's moving.... Remember you need to buy your ticked before at the ferry dock, NOT ON THE BOAT! What about if you guys just get up a few minutes earlier...?!?!?!?

PS: It's worse it :-)

I suggest you re-evaluate the

I suggest you re-evaluate the day of the week for this ride. Last year we had a long wait for the return ferry on Wednesday, whereas on Tuesday and Thursday there was an extra ferry in the afternoon which would have greatly reduced the almost 90 minute wait for the return ferry.
