The Suffolk Bicycle Riders Association, Long Island's largest cycling club, invites you to join us on a variety of rides and events. Organized in 1977, we are a club made up of all ages and cycling abilities. Active members enjoy riding together year round in a relaxed and friendly group atmosphere. Our rides range from short, easy trips for beginners, to moderately-paced tours with snack breaks, to fast, challenging rides for the more competitive minded. Volunteer club members organize group rides, leaving from various locations throughout Mid-Suffolk and the East End. Their routes provide us a wonderful variety of places to tour and explore.
SBRA promotes cycling of all abilities for health, fitness and fun. Ride Bikes with S.B.R.A.
DAVE GLASS, CHAMPION OF NON-MOTORIZED TRANSPORTATION,
PASSES AWAY AT AGE 53
David Glass, a transportation planner for the New York State Department of Transportation, and champion of non-motorized transportation on Long Island, recently passed away after a seven- year battle with cancer. Dave was also a resident of the Town of Brookhaven. He leaves behind a wife and three children.
Our First Super Cycling Saturday was a Great Success!. Over 130 riders attended (some from neighboring bike clubs) and participated in many clinics and lectures on bicycling, health and fitness. A Ride leaders training session proved to be very informative and lead to some substantial changes in procedures for leading rides. (these changes will appear on line and in a special email shortly.) The club wants to thank all of the people who contributed their time, both club members and people from many different professions. Look for more on this event in future postings.

Our special December Membership Meeting / Food Drive turned out to be a very successful event. The club thanks Everyone who participated and supported this very worthwhile cause.
Over 600 pounds of food was brought by club members for donation to Long Island Harvest and over $750 was collected and forwarded to this very important charity.
There was a wonderful spread of food and deserts, especially the amazing cake made by John Licata's wife (see picture below).
A Big Thank You to:
Bob DeVito for his leadership in making this special meeting happen,
Janine Schwartz for organizing the food drive, and
Susan Sherman for arranging a great selection of food and deserts for the meeting.
It was a fun night. Thank you to all members who participated.

Review on the 2009 Whitmore's Landscaping Super Cross Cup Weekend (Event site and Links to results/photos) in Southampton.
Again, a great Cyclocross Event on Long Island with top Elite Riders in the UCI women and men fields, packed with action, speed and a great welcoming atmosphere for riders and spectators. See your self watching the two video clips I cut from some footage and still images I took both days. I tried to catch key sections in still and video sequences in the order of riders encountering them on there laps. Starting out with a flat road sprint, moving over grass, climbing a few challenging steep, short and off-camber grassy turns, hitting part sandy single track in the woods and some enforced dismounts overcoming obstacles sections running -- all within one lap out of about 10..15 laps.
